Ezra's P.O.V.
Me and Kanan are going to a planet called Earth for training today. I have never heard of Earth before, I wonder what it is like. I'm really excited to see this planet and I couldn't wait to go see it. I bet it was full of life waiting for me to explore it. I smiled and the door to my room slid open to reveal my master.
" Ready to go?" He asked. I nodded and asked him, "do you think we could sight see the place for awhile. I never been to that planet before". Kanan smiled, "Sure, I've never been to this planet either so we could look around a bit". I jumped out of my bed and grabbed my light saber.
We both headed towards the Phantom and we were off. I couldn't stop moving in my seat and anxiously waited to arrive already. 'I bet this place is going to be amazing,' I thought.
*an hour later*
The Phantom exited out of hyperspace and I saw a planet out the window. I stood up to go see what Earth looked like from where we were. It seem like most of the planet was a desert like it has been.......burned. I didn't know what it really looked like for all I know, it could have always been this way. "Entering Earth's atmosphere, so you should probably sit down," Kanan said, "this is going to be a bumpy ride". I sat down when I felt the tremors as Kanan said started. I held for awhile until the shaking stopped.
Kanan landed the Phantom and we both exited it. The place looked like a desert, in the distance were a bunch of tall destroyed structures covered in sand. It didn't seem like a place for any sort of living thing to live in but then where did the huge buildings come from. "Alright, we'll look around when we are done with training,"Kanan said grabbing a couple of rocks. When he was collecting the rocks, a feeling that something was off came over me.
It felt like there was something that we weren't expecting about this place. I shrugged the feeling away as I unlatched my light saber from my belt. "Today, we are going to deflect rocks," he said. I nodded and got into a defensive stance.
*an hour of training later*
We were done with training and just resting. "Can we go a check that place out?" I asked pointing to the buildings. "Sure," Kanan said and we both stood up and started to walk to the huge structures.
The walk took about ten minutes until they arrived. "Woah," I said amazed and awed. The whole place looked like Lothal's biggest tornado and sandstorm came through this place. The all of the massive building's windows were shattered. The buildings itself look like they could fall any minute. The ground everywhere was covered in sand as far as my eye could see, maybe farther.
"What happened here?" I heard Kanan say whispering. I saw that he had the same reaction as me, amazed. That feeling I had earlier, it is back and it's telling me to run back to the Phantom. But why? Nothing in miles of this place looks like anything could live here. "I am having a bad feeling about this place. Maybe we should go," Kanan said. "You can go, but I'm going to look around," I said and walked towards the demolished city.
"I have a bad feeling about this," he muttered and followed me into the place.
We were just walking for a couple of minutes, when we actually see people. Except they were wearing ragged clothes and looked like what I used to be. A street rat. I felt bad for these people, they didn't deserve this. I still walked past them and the urge to help them grew. But, how was I going help?
A hand rested on my shoulder in a comforting manor. "I know," Kanan said. We finally were far away from those people but the churning in my stomach stayed. "What happened here that it's making people suffer?" I said but I knew there would be no answer.
It was getting late and I think we are lost in the city. "Uh Kanan, where are we?" I asked him. He seemed like he wasn't sure either, "I don't know". The bad feeling was getting stronger and and felt eyes looking at us from every corner.
"AAAAAHHHHH!" A scream cut through the tense night and I flinched from it. "W-what was t-that?" I asked getting scared. "I don't know, but something tells me I'm not wanting to," Kanan said. Warning bells went off in my head and told me to turn around. I slowly turned and saw a figure standing a couple of yards from us. It was hard to see what the person looked like because it was already dark and only saw the silhouette of them.
Kanan noticed me turn and did the same. He also saw the person just standing there watching and waiting. That's what scared me most. All of a sudden the person screamed and a bunch of psychotic people popped out of the allies, running towards us. Me and Kanan made a full on sprint to get to the Phantom before, whoever they are gets us.
The people chasing us made horrible sounds and devious laughing. 'What a friendly neighborhood,' I thought and kept on going. BANG! BANG! Gun shots were fired but they were hitting the people that were chasing us. "Over here!" A voice yelled. I saw a guy urging us to come with him. "Let's go," Kanan said and I followed him to the guy who was saving us. The he lead us into a building and we stayed there until the horrible sounds of laughter and screaming died down.
Once it died down, the guy turned his flash light on. "You two ok?" The guy asked. "Yes we are, thank you, "Kanan said, "who were they?". "You don't know what a Crank is?" The guy asked. I shook my head no. "Well be careful around those things. They don't play nice and will rip you to shreds," the guy said. I was hoping he was messing around with us but the seriousness in his voice said otherwise.
"Still, what are they?" Kanan asked. The guy looked at Kanan, "infected people". Now I'm more confused but luckily he kept explaining. "People who have the flare will do some pretty nasty stuff". Flare? "What's a Flare?" I asked.
"The flare," he started, "the flare is a sickness that with eat at your brain at a slow painful death. It will make you lose your sanity and you would go crazy without even thinking on what you are doing".
With this new information, I didn't know what to think and was now scared out of my mind. "Thank you for saving us and telling us this," Kanan thanked the man, "we will be going". "Be careful," the man said worried. Kanan nodded and pulled me towards the door. He quietly opened and shut it. I was on look out in case some of our 'friends' came along.
"Ezra?" Kanan said then asked, "are you ok?". I gave a confused look, "I'm fine". He gave me a stern yet gentle look, "I meant mentally". "Y-yes," I said and failed to not stutter. Kanan walked up to me and surprised me with a hug. "Ezra, if your scared then please tell me," Kanan said, "I will let you lean on my shoulder if you need it ok". I smiled and hugged him back, "yes master". "Good boy, now let's get out of here before we see anymore of those uglies," Kanan said.
We pulled apart and looked around the corner to see if any Cranks were there. When we thought it was clear, we hide in the shadows and tried our best to not get caught.
The sound of a window breaking came from behind us and a Crank came out. Me and Kanan ran in a chase down by a dehumanized zombie that wants to rip us apart.
'Ezra,' I heard Kanan's voice in our bond, 'I've got an idea. Just follow me'.
'Ok,' I replied and followed him into a building. We ran up five flights of stairs and two more Cranks decided to join in the chase. 'This is just great,' I thought sarcastically. Kanan suddenly started to climb up and I followed his lead. The rest of the way up, the whole building was slanted. The Cranks followed and we kept running.
CRASH! The floor gave out under me and I landed of something. I looked down at the floor but realized that it wasn't a floor. It was glass and it was cracking. "Ezra!" Kanan shouted and I saw him standing on something sturdy enough to hold him. My head started to spin and I felt something wet in my hair. I didn't move to see what it was so the glass wouldn't break more. "Ezra, stand up slo-". A Crank came out of no where and fell on top of me.
The other two Cranks disappeared to who knows where but I didn't care at this point. Me and the Crank started to fight on the glass. I got a better look through the glass and if it shattered then we're talking about the length of two star destroyers fall. I got a good look at the Crank too. It looked like I was battling the dead itself, the thing looked like a living corpse with raged and bloody clothes. It was horrific sight and an unpleasant smell. The smell was so disgusting that it made Zeb smell good.
The Crank flew off of me and I saw Kanan with his arms stretched out. I got up but I did it to quickly and the glass broke. Me and the Crank fell to our doom. Then I felt myself being lifted up and saw Kanan using the force to lift me up.
Once I was safe, I ran up to Kanan and hugged him. "Thank you," I whispered and felt myself shake from what just happened. I even released some tears from fear. "Anytime Ezra, anytime," Kanan said hugging me back, "we need to wrap your head up before you pass out from losing blood". We both climbed out of the room and found our way out of the building. The sun started to rise from the horizon and a tired feeling swept over me. Then dizziness came over me and I fell but I didn't feel the hard ground.
A blurry figure, which was probably Kanan, picked me up and carried me to the Phantom. I passed out a couple seconds later to find myself in a dark void.
I woke up on a cool metal with a bandage around my head and realized where I was. The Phantom. I sat up and saw Kanan in the pilots seat just staring out at the stars moving past us in hyperspace. I let out a groan when a headache started to form and Kanan noticed I was awake. He smiled and came to sit next to me. "How are you feeling?" He asked me. "Like a lothcat's chew toy," I replied. Kanan chuckled and patted my shoulder, "good to know that your snarky ness hasn't gone away". "Hey!" I said playfully punching him and smiling.
He laughed again, then I surprised him by embracing him in a hug. "Seriously though, thank you," I said smiling. Kanan hugged me back and what he said next shocked me, "I will do it again in a heartbeat if I have to, I love you son". My smile grew wider as I said my last few words, "I love you to, dad".
