Prologue

Koda woke up with the sunlight streaming through the window of her room. The small, dark haired girl groaning with slight anger at the  brightness. She was far from being a morning person, the worst time to try and talk to the girl is after she wakes up as she needs a solid ten minutes to come around and be civil again.

She sat up and swung her legs over the edge of her bed, blinking in confusion as she saw her packed bags sitting by her closed bedroom door. The fog from her mind finally cleared as she remembered that her and her family would be traveling to the US, someone near the Outerbanks for a modeling gig, but at the same time Koda knew she would get some excellent surfing time as she did some of action shots but not many.

"Koda get your ass up!" She heard her stepfather, Micheal Tanto, yelled up the stairs. Two more days and she would be stuck with only him, her mom and her two step-siblings...it was going to be hell. But the two she still had in Shorehaven she was gonna live up with her friends.

She groaned and flopped back onto her bed with displeasure before she finally got up after a minute or two of ignoring her mother and stepfather. "Yeah Yeah I'm come!" She called as she grabbed some clothes. She quickly dressed and dashed down the stairs. "Took you long enough." Samantha muttered.  Samantha was the second child of Micheal, his eldest was Dustin who was twenty one and, lucky him, got to live alone.

Koda walked past Samantha, her middle finger raised as she walked, the blonde girl's face turning red with anger. It was no secret that the Tanto family hated Koda, well Dustin didn't but he wasn't there to protect her anymore from them whenever they got into moods or was simply bored. Abigail, who is Koda's biological mother doesn't care all that much for her daughter either. After Miko died things just got worse and worse for her.

Miko Fenton was Koda's hero, the man she looked up to and called dad. He was the one who taught her how to surf and the language of their home land but that was stuff that Abigail was now strongly against, trying desperately to get rid of anything that reminded her of her late husband, but one problem was Koda was so much like him. Her personality, the way she talks, the way she smiles and her eyes.  Abigail resented her for it. But if Miko didn't pass away Abigail was just going to divorce him anyway.

"Hey buddy." Koda said in a soft coo as she opened the mudroom door, her puppy running out towrads her. The Australian Shepherd was pretty much just a little ball of fluff, yelping and jumping at her legs. A soft laugh bubbling past Koda's lips. The look of annoyance that crossed Abigail's face was normal for Koda, as she named the pup Miko, her mom hated it. "Get that nasty animal outside." Abigail demanded with her hands on her hips.

"Damn...sorry Samantha but you heard her outside." Koda said with a dramtic sigh like she sympathized with the girl. "You bitch!" Samantha snapped but Koda couldn't care less as she chuckled but the dirty look that Abigail gave her made her falk silent. "You apologize to her right now,  you are lucky Mike didn't hear you." The older mom demanded.  Rolling her brown eyes Koda faced the wicked bitch of the west. "Sorry Samantha you are the most beautiful girl in town. " her voice was low and sassy and her smile fake.

Koda didn't bother waiting for fora response as she clicked on the leash, walking towards the front door. Her soft face was unreadable to those who didn't know her but if you did you saw the pain in her eyes. She slammed the door behind her and started off to find her two best friends, Poppy and Marlon. Those two knew everything about her, they knew what she was going through, how things were at home, yet still they loved her.

"One day Miko me and you are gonna be free. I..." She sighed as she trailed off, the puppy's head cocking to the side as he stared up at his owner. "I don't know what to do anymore..." She finished her confession. She was trapped, there was no other way to put it. After Summer left last summer she felt a bit further from Ari, he's been changing which meant she spent more time home. Ari was where she crashed most nights. Marlon's mom didn't want her there and the Tetanui family still had healing to do.

But eventually the gentle souled rebel would final be free from her trap.....right?

This prologue is mainly to show the dynamic of the household.

Also forgot warnings this story will get pretty heavy - Language, implications of smut (or even smut but this one probably won't happen), violence, near death experiences, blood, eating disorder, panic attacks, mention of depression, mentions of abuse
