Chapter one - The adventure

First stop on Koda's day was the Gibson household, that's where Miko will be staying while she is away. Koda trusts the Gibsons and always has. The day was warm with a soft breeze which made her walk a pleasant one but she was mainly happy to be out of the house and alone with her pup by her side.

Koda tilted her head up, the sunlight shining against her face and making her soft tan skin seem even more tan. That's one thing she wished she got from her father, the nice tan skin but at least she had his eyes.

She finally saw the house, the car parked in the drive so she knew that they were home. She crossed the rest of the path to the door, knocking gently on it. Ari came to the door, a smile on his face when he saw her through the window.

"Hey blondie." Koda said with a lopsided grin as he finally opened the door for her, the boy chuckling some, shaking his head at the teasing tone in her soft voice. "Hey Koda." His eyes flickered down towards the dog and his smile widened as he dropped into a crouch, petting behind the pup's ears. "Hi Miko, how are you buddy? Ready to stay with us?" He asked the dog like he was actually waiting for a response. Koda chuckled softly at that, Ari turning his blue eyes back up to her. "Don't worry I'll take good care of him, better then I helped show Summer around," He promised her.

Summer Torres was from America, she came there for the summer due to her mom having to go out of country for a job. The Shorehaven group grew to be fond of the wild, fun girl.

Koda smiled at that. "I'm sure you will do great. I trust you Ari." She told him with full certainty as she passed him Miko's leash. Ari knew that leaving the pup behind was hard on the girl, as was leaving the people she trusted in Australia while she was in America.

Ari stood back up and looked at her, he can't believe she was making it as some hot-shot, up and coming model. He was honestly pretty proud of her.

He reached over and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Once you become rich and famous don't forget about us, yeah?" He joked but in a way he did mean it. He didn't want to lose his friend. A soft chuckle left her lips. "I could never forget you all, you are all so annoying." She replied with love for her friends as she gently pushed his shoulder.

Ari smiled at her teasing words, he knew that teasing was how she showed that she cared. "And if you happen to hear fro-" but Koda cut him off with a smile and a gentle roll of her eyes. "If I hear from Summer I'll mention you and ask why she hasn't called, don't worry Ar, I got you." He smiled more and nods his head, blonde hair falling forward. "You're the best." He told her with his lopsided smile, Koda flipping dark hair over her shoulder as she held herself up straighter. "I know I am." She cracked a grin as she looked at him. "It's been seven months since she left and school started back up, so maybe she just needs a little bit of time to get things in order still." Koda said to add some comfort for him. She knew it was a long shot but maybe it was true.

Koda knew how much Ari liked her and she was hoping for the best because she cared deeply for Ari and Summer alike. "I can't believe you're going to be in America for five months."
"I know, when I make it back for Nationals, I hope I don't fail. I'm going to be jet lagged when I get back and it can supposedly last from days to weeks." Koda said in slight distress at the idea of that, she wanted to be able to compete in Nationals and if her modeling career screwed that up for her the girl will be livid. Ari pulled her into a tight hug. "You'll do just fine Kods, you'll have all of us supporting you." He promised her.

"You know, it's not to late to join me, Poppy and Marlon for a early morning surf." Koda tried to prod him into coming with them. "Nah, I got some stuff to finish up here plus those two don't like sharing their best mate. You go have fun." Ari told her, rubbing her back slightly before letting her go. A small chuckle leaving her lips.

"Ok, I'll see you later, before I leave right?" She wanted to make sure this wasn't their goodbye. "Definitely, I'll throw you a party.  Thank God the menace of Shorehaven is leaving." The blonde joked. Koda rolled her eyes and swatted the back of his head. "Yeah yeah, bye Blondie." She said with a smile on her face as she walked away from the house, Ari watching her for a moment before heading back inside with Miko at his side.

Koda walked towards the beach, soaking in the rays of sunlight as she embraced being in Australia, soon all she would have is her mom, step dad and step sister. The thought made her shudder despite the warm weather.

"Hurry up shooting star!" Marlon's voice pulled her out of her thoughts as her eyes turned to him, seeing him waiting inpatiently at Poppy's side, looking up at Koda, urging her to hurry up so they can be in the water. "Yeah yeah, calm down fishy." Koda said in a sarcastic voice yet she couldn't  fight the smile at being with her two best friends.

Once Koda had reached them, Poppy put her arm around the girl's shoulders as they walked towards the waves. "I can't believe you are leaving us for that long." She lightly scolded the slightly shorter girl. "Like it's my choice." Koda said with a forced laugh and roll of her eyes. "But the life of a model is so Poppins." She sighed dramatically, leaning into Poppy's side.

Marlon was following after them and laughed a bit at that. "Then run away, come live with me." He offered her. Koda stopped and ducked under Poppy's arm, going towards the boy. Placing her hands on his cheeks she squished his face together some. "Aww, Mar cares about me." She teased, now it was his turn to roll his eyes and Poppy's to laugh. "Of course I care dumbass, you're my best friend." He said as he pushed her hands away from his face.

Marlon reached forward and took her hand into his though, most could confuse them for a couple but it's how they have been since they were young and she moved there. It's when Koda still liked physical affection, before her stepfather ruined that so Marlon would still hold her hand when he got the chance.

Poppy fell back some so she could wrap her free arm around Koda's. "You'll just miss you is all Nemo, it's not gonna be the same without you." Koda leaned her head on Poppy's shoulder with a small sigh. "I'm going to miss you too, both of you. I can't wait till it's just us and nationals then the world." She smiled at the daydream she played though her mind of always having her friends with her though she knows it's unrealistic.

"Ok enough with the sappy stuff, let's get on the water!" Marlon said as he let go of Koda's hand and raced towrads the water. "Hey no fair!" Poppy called after as she started running as well after the boy. "I see how it is leave me behind!" Koda shouted as she ran after them, running till she felt the cool waves lapping at her bare feet.

Getting on her board she started paddling out, watching her friends as well. The water was nice, the coolness battling the heat of the Australian sun. They paddled paddled a good distance out and now all that was left was waiting for a wave.

Hands trailing in the water, Koda's eyes closed and head tilted towards the sun. This was her happy place, this is where she was relaxed. Not in front of cameras and posing for people and the constant diets and look changes.

"This one's yours!" Poppy called for Koda, making her eyes open as she saw the wave. Koda turned her board and started paddling to catch it, once she had the opportunity she got to get feet. She started off strong with a bottom turn, the feeling of riding the wave was how freedom felt. She let that follow by a carve then a roundhouse cutback as the wave came to a end she fell backwards into the water happily. That was the last surfing trip she went on before she left for America.

The trip to America was uneventful until the fourth month in, one month before heading back home. She was out in the water of the OBX, other surfers around her. She was waiting for a wave. Once she got the opportunity she took it, trying to pull off a move she never tried before, a rodeo flip. Which was considered a more advanced technique but she was happy to try.

When she tried to do the flip part she couldn't land it, the water rushing over her face. But when she broke the surface the others around her gave claps and some whistles as they would happily support a younger surfer who tries to pull something off.

A sheepish smile crossed her face as she went to lift herself up onto the board but she was suddenly jerked under the water.  one of the men that was surfing hear by started paddling towards her.

Fear was consuming Koda as she struggled away from what had her leg, red starting to appear in the water as her leg was let free. Struggling towrads the surface she glanced down and saw the shark. The man grabbed her arm once he saw her, pulling her quickly up.

Gasping for breath Koda was frantically looking around, shaking. She couldn't hear the man reassuring her that everything would be ok. Her mind felt foggy as she drifted into unconsciousness from the intense pain.

Waking up in the hospital was no fun, not with Abigail and Marcus lecturing her about how she was lucky they would hide it with fabrics or she would have caused herself the chance of the photoshoot. The girl staring down at the hospital blankets that she moved to the side, she let out a breath to see her leg still there but stitched up on her left thigh. She wished her friends where they, she wished anyone but her mom and step dad where there.

The last photo shoot flew by as she posed with fabric draped delicately over the bite, they found ways for her to be sitting or leaning against something as she tended for get dizzy.

At last the five months were up and it was time to head home and for Nationals!  Koda had packed fast, texting her friends everyday that they were there and getting happy replies about her coming home.

"Can't wait to see you Shooting star ❤' Marlon texted her, making her smile. She wished she could just move in with him and that would be the end of it. She felt like she was intruding at Poppy's house because that fa,I'll has already gone through so much.

'Be safe Nemo' Poppy texted her as they got on the plane though it was still rather late in Australia she woke up just to text her friend that which Koda appreciated. Little did Koda know that on a plane from New York, Summer was also heading back to Shorehaven.

This was gonna be one hell of a time!

Fair warning I don't know shit about surfing so we are winging it my dudes, this felt rushed but there was so much I wanted to get in lol
