chapter 3 - first heat
"Here we go, by the end of today, four girls and four boys will be selected for the State team." The announcer said as Bodhi and Koda paddled towards the back to where she would be able to catch the waves. It was the two if them and two other girls. The first girl went pulling off a perfect bottom turn. Koda covered her mouth with another yawn, blinking her eyes quickly to try and keep them open.
Ari and Marlon stood towards the side of the wave pool, watching as they surfered. Marlon nudged Ari's ribs. "She's good." Ari commented. Marlon crossing his arms. "Ooh, yeah." The shorter boy agreed. "It's an unforgiving arena. Each competitor only gets two waves. Best score counts." The announcer said, the girl currently surfing, wiped out. "And just like that, a simple mistake will cost you big time."
"Come on Bodhi!" Marlon cheered her on as the next wave would be hers, Ari giving a small clap. "Bit crazy having America back, hey?" Marlon asked with a smile, hitting Ari's arm slightly. "Yeah. Nice and distracting on the biggest day of the year." Ari laughed
"Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Just....shame you got with Wren." He chuckled as he pushed his friend a bit. "Oi!" Ari laughed as he turned and hit his friend back. "Dude. Me and Summer, that never would have worked."
Manu and Poppy walked up towards the two boys. "Ay. This team's gonna be all Shorehaven, baby. Let's go!" Manu cheered with a clap of his hands. "Hey, Poppy said you might be State team coach. Is that rumor or true-mour?" Ari asked the older man with a smile on his face. "Well, selectors are considering it. So, fingers crossed, baby. Fingers crossed." Manu said excitedly high fiving Ari.
"Oi. I hope you get it, bro. Then you can make Poppy captain again." Marlon told Manu with a smile on his face. Poppy pointed towards Marlon. "Ay! Sometimes nepotism is the smart choice." She said making them laugh. Griff and a few others approaching behind them. "I think we all know who's gonna be captain, Pops." Griff said with a smile, making Poppy turn around and look at him. "Keep dreaming, Griffy." She said making Griff smile even more.
The sirens blared bringing their attention back to the current heat going on. "Alright, let's go! Let's go, Bodhi!" Manu cheered for the girl. His eyes traveling before landing on Koda. "She looks out of it.." He commented on her tired looking state. Marlon nods some. "She'll do her best..travel has messed her up plus she's always been sort of tired." He sighed sadly as he was worried for the smaller girl.
Bodhi paddled out in front of the wave before popping up to her feet. The girl pulling off practically perfect top turns that would surely wow the judges as the Shorehaven crew cheered her on from the side lines. "And that puts Mercer in second place overall, but still plenty of surfing to come."
Koda moved to catch her final wave. "Come on Kods!" Ari yelled from the side lines. Marlon standing by him, watching her every move to make sure she wouldn't get hurt. "You got this star!" The boy shouted, glancing towrads Poppy who was chewing on her thumb nail.
Koda knew her friends where watching her but she didn't know that another boy was watching her as well. Baxter watched the girl with curiosity in his eyes, she barely pulled of some epic moves but Koda was tired and wasn't as sharp as she usally was. Bax glanced towards the Shorehaven crew, noticing how Ari, Poppy and Marlon were cheering her on, which meant she was part of their group..why hasn't he seen her before?
After the heat Koda walked back into the changing room with a distraught look on her face, she knew that she didn't do her best and that she wasn't going to be good enough for the State team. "Hey Kods." Summer greeted the girl, looking at her. "Hey, I'm sure you did great, don't bum yourself out." She placed her hands on her shoulders and looked her in the eyes. "You are amazing and if they don't take you they are idiots."
It was now for the first boys heat. "We've got a few new faces on the Victorian circuit this year. Hungry for a spot and ready to shake things up. Here goes Bax Radic is green. Show great power and creativity." The announcer praised as the boy got to his feet, pulling off incredible turns. "Last year's State reps, like Tommy Ahmed, had better be on their A game."
Summer was following after the one selector, trying to reason with him, having left Koda in the changing room to gather her thought. "Come on, did you not watch the clips? I was surfing crappy breaks! Is that not worth a couple bonus points?" Summer asked the man who was doing his best to ignore her. He finally replied to her. "We saw the clips, alright? Your standard's not good enough. I'm sorry."
"Not good enough? Come on, give me a chance. Let me show you how good I am." She begged him, her voice showing her disbelief. "Decision's made." He told her before turning away back to his job, completely dismissing her. Summer turned away in annoyance, kicking the sign before she continued walking away. She paused looking out at the water, a smirk forming on her face as she had a idea.
"Koda!" Summer said as she busted into the room making Koda jump. Brown eyes wide she looked at her American friend. "Geez Summer you can't just do that to me?" She said in a breathy voice. A smile crossing Summer's face. "My bad Kods, I need your help though. Come on!" She took Koda's hand and started pulling her along with her, not answering when she asked where they were going.
Ari was in the boys locker room doing some breathing exercises, squeezing the stress balls in his hnads, eyes closed. Summer being the type of girl she was didn't care it was the boys locker room, walking in with full confidence. Koda though had a sheepish and unsure look in her big brown eyes.
"Okay, real talk. I need your help." Summer said as she spotter Ari. The boy quickly turning to look at her before smiling some. Summer looked down at his hands. "Oh. Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt your ball squeezing." She said with a amused smile making Ari laugh and put them back into his bag. That comment made Koda relax some as she laughed. "No, it's just some exercise from the therapist."
"Cool, you're still seeing him? You look really good, by the way. I mean, you, um..you seem good." She told him, covering up her tracks. "That was painful." Koda whispered in Summer's ear with a amused smile on her face, laughing a bit more when Summer elbowed her in the ribs as a warning. "I am." Ari replied before they both laughed some.
The two looked at each other for a bit. "You needed help with something." Ari said after a bit with a small laugh. "Right. Sorry." Summer said as she got her thoughts back on track. "So, the dumb-dumb selector rejected my application. So I'm thinking, if you and Koda could distract the official for, like, ten seconds, I could sneak down to the take-off during a heat, jump in the pool, and, boom, take my shot." Summer said surely. Ari's smile faltering slightly as she spoke. "No." Ari said slowly. Summer's smile faded. "No?"
Koda turned towrads Summer like she was crazy, but of course the girl would help..just some more warning and a expresso would have helped Koda out. "Don't worry Summy, I'm in." She said with a lopsided grin, that made Summer smile a bit, at least she had Koda on her side.
Just then another guy walked in with pink hair, his face sorta flustered from the sun and excursion of surfing. Ari turned to him with a wide smile on his face, glad to have some sort of distraction. Koda's eyes momentarily going to him, but she wasn't focused on him. "Mate, how'd you go?" He asked Baxter Radic, the pink haired surfer. "Yeah.." was all Baxter said as he walked past, ready to get out of his wetsuit, his eyes going towrads the two girls as he past.
Ari turned his gaze back towards Summer. "Listen, just so we're clear, you're asking me to risk disqualification to get you in the water?" He asked, stepping closer and lowering his voice to a whisper. "I broke the rules for you. A year ago I got you on hat ferry and you made your final. Help a girl out." She stated out with disbelief in her voice but by the end she had a smile and was doing her best to use her charm to get Ari to agree. Koda had to admit if she was Ari she would have melted and agreed to help.
"Summer, it's so cool that you're still surfing. Really it is. But this is the last year that we can go to Nationals. It's the big leagues and I'm an actual chance. I'm really glad you're back." Ari grabbed her upper arms before letting go and walking out. Koda turning to look at him. "Come on blondie..." But Ari ignored Koda and kept walking, he changed so much in the past five months.
Summer looked defeated as she glanced after him. Koda wrapping her arm around the taller girl's shoulders with a frown on her face. Baxter looking over at the girls. "I'll help." He told her with the slightest smile crossing his face. Now Koda looked at him, his pink hair and septum piercing, with some tattoos. He had a intriguing look to him.
"I'll met you there, it's Marz's heat." Koda said, leaning towards Summer. Her eyes flickering back to Bax who has still been looking at her with a slightly lopsided smirk. Koda took a step back not turning her back on him. It was now clear to Summer that the girl had developed trust issues now and had trouble with men.
It was Marlon's turn on the waves, Koda arriving just in time. "Marlon Sousa on form here. His style well suited to this fast-moving wave." The crowd cheering as he did a flip. "You got this." Bodhi cheered him on. Poppy clapping. "Come on, Marz!" Poppy shouted.
"You got this, come on Fishy!" Koda shouted towrads her friend, Poppy right by her. Marlon went to attempt another maneuver but wiped out. "Oh! But fails to complete! So close to a great score, that's gotta hurt." The announcer said with some pity in his voice. Koda's face fell, it seemed she wasn't the only one who bombed her heat.
Griff was on the wave after Marlon, the boy doing rather great. "The judges are loving it!" The announcer said. It took everything in Koda not to roll her eyes. If he makes the team she would be glad not to be chosen for it, she thinks she would honestly hurt him if she had to spend more then ten minutes together.
"Let's go Ari!" Manu shouted from the crowd as Ari paddled forward for the wave. "Second and final wave for these blokes now. Gibson only a 4.6 for his first. It's all on the line."
"Come on Ari, let's go!" Koda shouted towrads him after hearing the announcer with his score, she was hoping he would still be the same guy she knew and he was still still a friend so she would cheer him on . "Come on, Ari! You got it, you got it!" Manu yelled. Ari caught the wave doing a top turn. "Keeps his cool, a tonne of grunt in that turn! Gibson puts himself in contention!" The announcer said as he finished his wave with the crowd cheering for him loudly. "Let's go, brother!" Manu said proudly.
Marlon was walking towards where they were, Koda walking to met him. Her arms instantly wrapping around his neck and his going around her waist. "You did amazing Mar, you are amazing." She promised him. The two stood like that for a second before loosening the hold on each other. "So did you girlie, why are you hiding you leg?." His smile faltering slightly. "I'll tell you later, I got to help Summer with something." She said with a soft smile before walking towrads where she was going to be a distraction. Marlon turned and look at her retreating form.
Ari got changed and dressed, walking towards where Bodhi and Marlon where. "That was sick, Ari." Bodhi said with a smile, hugging the boy. "Thanks. You did so good, Bodes. You're in for sure."
"Don't say that. You'll jinx us." Bodhi said, pointing at him, lightly scolding him. "Hey. Brother." Marlon smiled at him.
"And we're on the home stretch. Final round of the girls under 18's" The announcer said Manu looking towrads the water, walking back towrads the edge. "We're on! Let's go, let's go, let's go." Manu said excitedly. "Big match up here. Poppy Tetanui, one of our State reps from last year up against former Queenslander, and next big thing, Wren Radic." Koda heard that as she walked, glancing over to watch what she could. "Go Poppins!" She cheered happily.
Poppy caught the first wave between the two. She did a very solid top turn. "Poppy Tetanui ripping here. Very solid start!" Very friends and family cheering her along loudly and happily. Wren was next. "And Radic answers! This young import could be a huge asset to Team Victoria!"
Baxter was now working on being the distraction, Koda leaning on the railing by the boy's side, but she was facing where Summer would walk past. "No, no, you don't want a mullet, that's a horrible idea. Cause when you see three year olds in prams with mullets, it's over. You know, it's, uh..it's uh, its." He trailed some as he glanced towrads where Summer was ducking under the rope, flashing her a smile. Summer gave Baxter and Koda a thumbs up. "Actually he's right, personally as at woman myself, I wouldn't date a guy with a mullet." She said absently to the man even though some men could pull the look off.
"Both girls in solid contention here, but, still, anything could happen." The announcer said. Ari was bouncing on his feet with a big smile on his face. "Let's go, Wren!" He cheered like a supportive boyfriend. Manu hitting him over the back of the head without looking over at him. Ari turned towrads him. "Sorry, Coach, I'm going for both of them." He told Manu.
Koda looked over seeing Summer almost to the pool edge. She lightly hitting Baxter's arm, drawing his attention to her. "I'm going to go watch the heat, have fun here." She pushed off the railing and started walking, Baxter catching her hand to make her stop. Her whole body tensing as she looked at him with wide eyes. Baxter frowned some. "Sorry..nevermind. Go have fun." He waved her off not wanting to make her uncomfortable.
Summer walked up to the edge of the wave pool with a pleased smile on her face. She jumped into the water. "Summer!' Wren shouted as she did so. "What are you doing?!" The blonde demanded. "Could that idiot please clear the pool? I repeat, could the pool invader get out of the comp zone?!" The announcer said, Koda bursting into a fit of laughter. "That's a icon right there." She mumbled to herself.
Ari looked out shocked. "No,no, no, no." He said with disbelief. Manu looked out, not expecting to see Summer. "Who invited her back?" Manu asked. Koda moving up behind them. "Come on Manu, play nice." Koda told him making Manu turn to look at her. "Sorry Kods, but in all fairness you shouldn't be the one telling me to play nice." He said with a soft chuckle, Koda rolling her eyes playfully.
"Oh, my God. She just took my wave." Wren complained as Summer moved forward to catch this one. She did tight turns and even a top turn pretty flawlessly. Bodhi hit Marlon's arm with a stunned smile. "What?" She asked in disbelief. Even Manu looked impressed and shocked. Koda was thrilled seeing her surfing so well. "Go Summy!!" She cheered enthusiastically. "Whoo! Yes, Summer!" Bodhi cheered. Once she finished the wave, Summer held her hands up in victory with a smile on her face.
The girls were walking out of the water, the crowd clapping for them acts they did so. Wren looking over at Summer unhappily. She couldn't believe Summer would drop in on her wave like that. Wren moved towards Ari, who was walking closer to the edge. "I'm so sorry about that." He apologized on Summer's behalf. "Why are you sorry? I mean, it's not like you were the one that bombed the pool in the middle of my heat." Wren said looking towards where Poppy and Summer where, Ari's eyes following.
"Well, at least you caught a wave." Poppy said as she walked with her friend. "Yeah, better than New York." Summer said with a grin bit Poppy didn't look all that impressed with her stunt, Koda walking towards them. "Seriously, why would you do that?"
"Really, Poppy, what other option did I have? Come on, you know it was good." Summer said as the two started walking. Koda hugged Summer before pulling Poppy into it. "You were both so amazing!" She praised them happily as Summer hugged back, Poppy a little more hesitate because she was still stunned by what Summer did.
"Anyway, don't worry, you ripped. You're fine. It's just...crazy how much better she is." Ari said as he glanced towards where Summer, Koda and Poppy walked away. Wren's smile faltering slightly at that. Wren glanced over as well before looking back at Ari who was still looking the other direction.
"After a day of highs, lows and at least one really weird moment, the selectors are tallying the scores and putting their heads together. In a few short hours we'll know who's on the team and headed to the biggest junior comp of the year, the Nationals." The announcer said as families started filing out with nothing left to do but wait to see who made it.
Koda had been invited to help set up for the BBQ, she hoped that would help wake her up. "Don't travel Honey, jet lag is terrible." She complained making Honey look over. "You're back?!?" The young girl shouted happily, running to hug her. The girl laughing as she embraced her back. "I've missed you Hun." She said happily as she rubbed her back.
"I was about to go skating, want to come with me?" Honey asked with a smile as she stepped back. "Not today, I'm gonna help Abbie set up." She ruffled Honey's hair and set her on her way.
Honey was riding her skateboard when a blue van passed, slowing down. Summer put her head out the window with a smile. "Nice kick flip." When Honey saw that it was her and wide smile grew on her face.
Honey and Summer walked into the Gibson house. "You have to see my deck collection." Honey told her as they walked in. "Honestly, the amount of gold people dump in our rubbish is truly astounding." They walked into the kitchen where Ari and Wren were making out, a disgusted looking Koda moving around them to grab things.
Honey sighed. "They do this all the time." She whispered. Wren and Ari turning towrads where the voice came from. "It's kind of gross." Honey added in a normal tone.
"Sorry, Honey." Wren apologized with a smile on her face. "Just keep walking." Honey said as she she started, pulling on Summer's hand which she was holding. "Wait. One second," Summer told her. Koda smiled over at Summer, glad she was there.
Summer let go of Honey's hand and moved towrads the two. "Um, I did want to say my bad for crashing your final." She told the girl. "Oh. Please, don't worry about it. Yeah, comp surfing's all about dealing with the unexpected. Like when someone steals your wax before a final." Wren said with a smile, looking up towards Ari. Ari looked over with his lopsided grin. "Right, yeah. That's actually how we met. We were at a comp and um..she accidently nicked my wax." Ari said in a voice like it was romantic.
Koda rolled her eyes, making Honey laugh a bit. Koda wasn't a romantic, the girl hardly believed in love. She knew that Summer and Ari where close to it yet something...or rather someone got in the way of that.
Wren looked towrads Summer, leaning towards her a bit. "Yeah, "accidently". Boys, right?"
"Right." Summer agreed with the slightest laugh, trying to be polite. "He's just the best. You know?" Wren said happily. "Hey. You're pretty great yourself." He shot back making Wren laugh. "Right, let's go." Honey said, pulling Summer away. "Disgusting." Koda murmured before walking back outside.
Marlon was checking his phone for any news as he approached the Gibsons house. "Hey, mate, you hungry?." Ari greeted, hugging his friend as Poppy walked up eyes on her phone. The Gibsons had invited the friends over for a BBQ as they all waited for new from the Nationals.
Poppy was frantically refreshing the page. "Have you guys heard anything? It's, like, just name the State team already!" She asked in a slightly panicked voice. She walked towards Honey, Summer, Koda and Bodhi. The two older girls chuckling at her. Koda was half asleep with her head laying on Bodhi's legs, the girl gently running her fingers though Koda's hair. "Relax Pops, it will be okay. You're amazing." Koda said sleepily, it was hard to think that she just got back earlier that day and all this has happened.
Baxter and Wren were walking into the backyard. "Oi, stop pushing me." Baxter said in a board voice towards his sister, pushing his sister away. "You're pushing me." The blonde girl countered, lightly hitting his arm. Baxter gave a small laugh at that. Koda peeked her eye open to see them.
"Wait, I know that guy." Summer said as she looked over at him. "Wren's brother Baxter. He's a pyro, so you guys should get along." Bodhi said as she looked towards the pink haired boy. "Hmm, I like fire." Koda said with a soft smile, clear signs showing she was about to fall alseep. Summer looked momentarily confused by that. "Excuse me?"
"Apparently after Nationals last year at Carvers Bay, Baxter burnt down the Boardriders Clubhouse." Bodhi informed as Baxter looked towards them, smiling at them. "Yeah and he got kicked off the Queensland team and they moved down here." Poppy added as she finally put her phone away. "Pretty rough for Wren." Bodhi said looking at Summer who was looking across at Baxter. "Well, he's super helpful." Summer smiled.
"Also, Wren's a litterer." Honey said catching the three older girls attention. The girls looking way more Intrested then it was so the younger girl felt more apart of their group, Koda listening but not fully looking. "Last November, Tuesday afternoon, outside Farouk's fish n chips, she threw a sauce container at the bin, it missed, went into the gutter. She didn't even do anything. She just left it there. That was all I needed to know." She finished. The older girls looking shocked at that information, Honey smiling some as she talked. Summer laughed softly. "Honey, you're the real reason I came back. " She fist bumped the younger girl before hugging her.
Night has fallen by now, a fire going in the pit. "Wait, wait, wait! This is my favorite bit." Abbie, Ari's mom, said as she was playing a video of Ari and Summer as young kids dancing. The people watching laughing. "Summer, is that actually you and Ari?" Poppy asked with a laugh, her tone lightly teasing. "This is back when you took directions." Margot laughed. "Um not really! I was the choreographer." Summer replied, her voice laughing. Ari and Wren walked back and he saw what was playing. "Aw, mum!" He groaned.
"Look at your little shorts." Abbie teased him, pointing at the screen. "No!"
"Who knew you had moves, Ari?" Summer told him teasingly. Ari and Summer talking and laughing as Wren looked over at them suspiciously.
Koda was now officially asleep where they had been sitting previously. Most of them had eaten already. Baxter had glanced towards her, noticing she hasn't eaten anything yet. The boy got a hotdog on the plate, that being the safest bet since he didn't know what she liked. Bax walked over to her, crouching to where he was almost at face level. Marlon looked over, his eyes narrowing slightly as he stood up, yeah he trusted and thought of Baxter as a friend, that was Koda he was near.
"Hey.." Baxter's voice was a soft whisper, fingers gently brushing her hair back before trailing along her jaw. "Hey, I brought you food." When he brushed the back of his hand across her cheek she jolted awake, almost falling off. Her eyes wide and her breathing a bit heavy. "Hey no no, you're good, here I'll leave this here." He said quickly. Marlon was over in a instant when he saw the fear on her face. He lead Baxter away. "It's nothing personal man, she has things rough and doesn't like being touched." He said vaguely.
Marlon returned to Koda's side, wrapping a arm around her shoulders. "You're safe, I got you Nemo. He wouldn't hurt you I can promise you that, he's a good guy." Koda nods her head slightly as she leaned into Marlon's side.
That's when phones started to chime, everyone looking. "Guys, is this it?" Ari asked nervous but hopefully. "Yes!" Wren gassed excitedly. "Yes, yes, yes! Wait, Ari?" She turned to her boyfriend who gave her a grin. "I'm in!" He rushed her, picking her up in a hug. "Ari, we did it!" She said happily.
Bodhi was looking at her phone, moving away from the group. Summer looking towards Ari and Wren at what bit sadly. "And I'm team captain." Wren announced, Poppy looking towards her, smiling fading. "Oh, Wren, congrats!" Ari told her happily. Bodhi placed her hands on her forehead, Poppy noticing and hurrying towards her.
Poppy instantly moved to hug her but Bodhi looked up with a smile, both of the girls laying some. "No, I'm just so happy." Bodhi told her. Poppy leaned up to hug her. "I'm so proud of you."
"You too. I'm sorry you didn't get team captain." Poppy shrugged her shoulders some at Bodhi's words. "Ah, all good, Wren's a superstar." Poppy's phone beeped. She pulled it out and looked at it. "Griff says he's in too. With Ahmed."
"Griff's texting you?" Bodhi questioned.
Koda looked at her phone when it chimed, a small frown on her face, she didn't make the cut but she was going to be a sub. She stood up with Marlon, both leaning against each other for support,
"Bax, are you in?" Wren asked her brother making Poppy look back, not answering Bodhi's question. "Yeah. 'Fraid so." He replied, his eyes going up to see Koda leaving with Marlon, he could only assume she got some bad news, that's when he noticed she didn't touch her food.
Poppy glanced back towrads her phone. "Oh,no..." She then glanced up towards Bodhi before standing. She ran towards the front of the house. "Is she okay? What's going on?" Abbie questioned
Poppy caught up with Marlon and Koda. "Marlon, Kods, wait up!!" She called, getting them to stop. "It's okay. I'm just gonna get an early night." He said, voice sorta flat. "Jet lag." Koda said glad for the sleep this time. "I'm so sorry...both of you." Poppy said with a frown. Marlon shrugging his shoulders. "It'll be okay. Go celebrate. You deserve it. You're gonna carry this team. See ya." He gave her a quick smile before turning and walking away.
Koda looked at Poppy. "You are going to be great Poppins."
"Please come back Koda...please." Poppy reached forward and took her hands. Koda looked at her before sighing, she could never tell Poppy no, so she was dragged back to the party, Bax noticing her being brought back.
"Can't belive it!" Wren laughed. "I'm so proud of you, Wren." Bodhi said as she gave her a hug. Summer watching them all from a distance. "I'm proud of you." Wren countered.
Ari's parents hugged him. "Bet that's a relief, hey, mate?" His dad asked him.
"Sick. You deserve it. Really." Bodhi said, breaking the hug and just taking her hands. "Thanks. So do you, Bodhi. Thank you."
Margot walked over to Summer. "You okay?" She asked since Summer seemed distant and zoned out. Summer turned towrads her. "Yeah. I'm in." She whispered as if she didn't believe it. "What?" A look of confusion crossed Margot's face. "I'm in." Summer announced louder, finally looking towrads the rest. "They gave me a wildcard spot. I'm on the team." Everyone looked confused and no one said anything yet.
Baxter moved towrads the table. "They put the heat crasher in. That's sick." He said as he grabbed some chips, a smile on his face. "Well, this is either great or terrible." Poppy whispered as Bodhi sent Summer a smile. Margot pulling her daughter in for a hug. "That's awesome Sum." Koda said with a soft smile.
Summer had walked off to use the bathroom, when she walked out Wren was waiting for her. "Hey! Can I talk to you for a second?" She asked. Summer looking at her, walking over. "Sure."
"Uh, look, um...I have no idea why the selectors rewarded what happened, but it so confirmed everything Ari told me about you." Wren said as she looked at Summer. Summer smiled a bit and scoffed slightly. "What's that?"
"Well, that you're an entitled brat who'll do anything for the slightest bit of attention." Wren threw back without any hesitation. Summer now looking confused. "Well...whatever you've heard, we're on the same team now. So you might want to play nice." Summer told her, the slight under tone showing it was a warning. "Yeah, and this team is about taking my career to the next level. So I'm not going to let you ruin it. Come on, Summer. We both know you don't deserve this. And, well, I think, pretty soon everyone else is gonna work that out too, right?" Summer stared at Wren in disbelief. Wren sniggered slightly looking at her a moment before walking away.
