Hunter

After it seems like Ren forgot about Korra, I grab her arm. "You don't want to get mixed up with Ren, Korra. He... he's bad news."

"Bad news? Come on. That little runt?" She pushes my arm playfully, but I don't play along. I keep my face still and cool.

"I'm dead serious. He seems stupid at first, but believe me, things can get really awful. I know this personally." My mind wanders to a couple days ago, with my last beating from Ren and his gang. My body still aches from it.

Korra touches my arm gently. "Okay, I trust you. But I make no promises that I won't kill him in the future. Anyways, I'm going to take a shower." She runs a hand through her messy hair. "I feel like crap, and I want to get the Ren smell off of me."

I chuckle softly. "Good idea. You stink."

She makes a face and turns to leave. I watch her go through the glass doors and disappear in the hallway. I check the hallway before crossing the room to Ren's table. Everybody is deep into conversation with each other, as if they've been friends since they were little. Nobody notices me when I pass they're table. It's a shame actually, because I find myself very attractive.

I near Ren's table. His full attention is on the plate of food in front of him. I clear my throat loud enough so that only his table can hear me. He and his gang all snap their heads towards me. Ren snaps his fingers and points his thumb behind him. In unison, they all stand up and leave the table.

"Ahh, Mitchell." He finally says. "I was wondering when you would come."

"I'm not that predictable."

"Yes," Ren says. "But after that thing with your girlfriend, I thought you'd come over."

"She's not my girlfriend," I say. Maybe a little too quickly.

"That's a shame. She's a very beautiful girl," I suck in my cheeks at that. "Do you think that you could fix us up? I think that would be a very good idea, cousin."

"You are not my cousin, you are a mistake in the Mitchell name. Also, I think that would be a mistake. She wants to kill you, I promise you that." Ren slams his hand on the table and stands up. His dark brown eyes meet mine. "Don't try to threaten me," I say.

"Mitchell, come on. You're my cousin. I would never threaten you! I'm just going to..." Right there, in front of everybody, he chooses that moment to punch me. It feels like I've been hit by a boat, and then had my insides twisted by the propellers.

I hold my stomach where the punch landed. "What the hell was that for?" I cough.

"It's been so long since I had a one on one match with you, cousin. I missed this." Ren pummels me to the tiled floor and sits on my stomach, trapping my hand under his butt. He starts to swing at my face. I push him off of me, but he still keeps coming. He makes direct hits with his fists until I can't take it anymore. I hold my arms up to shield my face. He switches his hits to my torso and stands up, grunting the entire time. "Garbage. I pity you."

He starts to kick my side. My bruises still haven't healed from the last time we met a couple of days ago."Get up, Mitch-"

He doesn't finish. I take this chance to scramble to my feet, and take a breather. Thank God, my lungs still work. I don't hear anything, but the ringing in my ears. But one voice cracks that barrier, "Hunter? How many fingers am I holding?"

I look up at her, my vision is still blurry from the number of hits to my head. From what I can see, she is holding a hand up

The voice is faint, but loud enough for me to recognize it. I glance up, "I didn't need your help."

"From what I heard, it seemed like you did. People started cheering for Ren. It was disturbing my shower. I didn't get to finish."

I sit up and take a long look at Korra. She really didn't finish. Her hair was wet and soapy, and her eyes were a deep scarlet. "I can see that. Thanks."

"My pleasure," she says with a cheeky smile.
