Chapter: Twenty-Two

   "Rebecca?" I asked into the darkness.

   She stood in front of me, a huge wooden door in front of her.

   "I'm sorry... but I have to go." She said, opening the door.

   A bright white light spread from the open door, engulfing us...

~~~~~~~~~~
   I shot up and looked around, quickly realizing we were still at the beach house. It was still dark out and I could feel Rebecca sit up next to me.
   "Everything ok..?" She asked, wiping the sleep from her eyes.
   I nodded slowly. "Yeah... uh... just a bad dream."
   She pulled me back down and cuddled up next to me.
   "It's ok, I'm here." She said sleepily before kissing my cheek and resting her head on my chest.
   I wrapped my arms around her and tried to get back to sleep.
   But, after a few hours of laying awake in bed, the sun started to rise in the sky and light began spilling into our room. I untangled myself from Rebecca and made my way downstairs.
   "Can't sleep?" Came Blake's voice.
   I nearly jumped out of my skin. "Jesus... what're you doing up?"
   "Couldn't sleep either." She said, pulling out the chair next to her and invitingly patting it.
   I sat next to her and she handed me a beer.
   "It's a little early don't you think?" I asked with a chuckle.
   "You look like you could use one." She replied.
   I shrugged and popped the cap off, taking a big swig.
   "Wanna talk about it?" She asked.
   "Well... sure, why not?"
   I thought for a second, deciding where to start.
   "My dad was a drunk... That's what caused him to abandon us. And after he left, I started to have these dreams of him opening this big door in complete darkness and the room would fill with an intense white light that blinded me. Then, I'd wake up."
   "But, I thought you guys were close again?" She asked, taking a sip of her beer.
   I sighed. "We are and I haven't had one of those dreams since then... But, last night I had the same one... except, instead of my dad it was... Rebecca."
   She let out a low whistle. "What do you think it means?"
   I shrugged. "No clue, but I haven't been back to bed since."
   She nodded slowly, seeming to understand.
   "It's probably nothing." I said, waving my hand.
   "What's probably nothing?" I heard Rebecca ask from the stairs.
   I gave Blake a quick glance, telling her to stay quiet. She nodded and I looked back at Rebecca.
   "Remember I had a bad dream last night?"
   She nodded.
   "Well, it was about... uh... a clown, trying to kill me." I lied terribly. But, she seemed to buy it.
   "So, you're scared of clowns now?" She asked with a chuckle.
   I wasn't necessarily scared of clowns, although they were pretty creepy.
   "No... that's why it probably didn't mean anything." I replied, pulling out a chair for her to join us.
   The three of us talked for a while before everyone else began to emerge from their rooms and joined us in the kitchen.
   We agreed to skip breakfast and hit the road.
   After we packed up the cars, we stood in the driveway and admired the beach house one last time before leaving. Rebecca, Beth, Stephanie and myself piled into my car and followed Wendy and Blake down the road, back towards our boring old houses...
   We eventually split up and went our own ways.
   I headed towards Stephanie's house first. We pulled up front and let her out.
   "Thanks again, guys. That was, like, the most fun I've ever had." She said before running up to her waiting mom.
   We waved her off and headed towards Rebecca's house.
   "Text me later?" She asked as we pulled up.
   "Sure thing, babe." I replied.
  She leaned across the center console and caught my lips in a deep kiss.
   We reluctantly pulled apart and gazed into each others eyes.
   Beth made a vomiting sound from the back seat which made us laugh.
   "I love you, bye." She said, exiting the car.
   "Love you to." I replied, blowing her a kiss.
   She pretended to catch it and smirked as she walked into her house.
   Beth joined me in the front seat as I made my way back towards our house.
   "So, did you have fun?" I asked.
   She shrugged. "Yeah, it was alright I guess."
   "Just alright!?" I asked, which caused her to laugh.
   "Fine... it was fun." She replied.
   I ruffled her hair and put an AC/DC CD into my new stereo system as I flew down the street towards our house...
   We walked through the front door and were immediately pulled into a lung crushing hug from my mom.
   "Mom... we... have to... breathe to..." Beth said next to me.
   "Agreed..."
   She finally released her death grip. "I'm sorry, I just missed you guys so-"
   She stopped and looked at my arm.
   "When did you get that?"
   "Yesterday." I replied.
   She nodded.
   I was expecting much worse, I couldn't wait 'til she found out about Beth's.
   "So, I take it you girls had fun?"
   "Tons." Beth replied before making a beeline for her room.
   I chuckled. "Sorry to ditch you, mom, but I've been driving since this morning."
   She nodded. "Say no more. Oh and your grandmothers coming by for a visit later. You should invite Rebecca."
   "To meet 'crazy' grandma Anna? Hell no."
   "C'mon, honey, she's not that bad."
   "I know she's your mother and all, but she's nuts, mom."
   She rolled her eyes and smiled. "Ok... maybe a little. But, I'll keep her in line. She's only in town for a couple days and this might be your only chance to introduce them."
   I rolled my eyes slightly. "Fine, I'll ask. But, no guarantees."
   She threw her arms up in victory and I rolled my eyes before making my way upstairs.
   I flopped down on my bed and pulled out my phone, sending Rebecca a quick text.
   "Wanna meet crazy grandma Anna today?"
   "Lol sure." Came her reply.
   I smiled, typing up a reply. "K I'll pick u up in a few hours."
   "K love you."
   "Love you to." I added a kissy emoji for good measure before putting my phone down and trying to get some sleep before grandma Anna got here...
   I pulled up in front of Rebecca's house and honked the horn. She came strolling through the front door and hopped in the passenger seat.
   She leaned over and gave me a quick kiss.
   I smiled at her before heading back home.
   "Crazy huh?" She asked with a giggle.
   "Oh my god, like a fucking lunatic." I replied, which only made her laugh harder.
   "When I turned nine, she showed up to my party dressed as a murderous clown because she thought it was a Halloween party."
   She chuckled. "I see where the fear of clowns comes from."
   I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Oh, shut up."
   We pulled into my driveway, only to see my mom holding my grandma back, who of course was barking at the neighbors dog.
   I rolled my eyes and put my head in my hands.
   "This'll be fun." Rebecca said with a giggle.
   "Doubt it." I replied.
