Chapter: Fifty-Eight

We pulled into Wendy and Jen's driveway and made our way to the front door.

Rebecca knocked twice and in a matter of seconds the door flew open.

Wendy greeted us with a smile before practically dragging us into her house.

We chuckled as Rebecca took a seat next to Jen and the babies.

I followed Wendy into the kitchen.

"So, how was your weekend getaway?" She asked.

"Perfect." I replied with a smile.

"Thats great. Now, not that we don't love you or your kids, but Jen and I are in desperate need of some alone time." Wendy replied.

"I get it, we'll see you guys later." I said with a laugh as I walked back into the living room.

"Are we leaving already?" Rebecca asked.

"Yeah, these two lovebirds need some private time." I said with a giggle as I picked up Anna.

Rebecca picked up Max and followed me to the door. We barely had time to say our goodbyes before Wendy kicked us out.

We laughed as we got the babies into their car seats and took off down to road...

It was dark when we finally pulled into our parking lot.

We plucked the sleeping babies from their car seats and carefully got them upstairs and into their cribs without waking them up.

Rebecca and I flopped down on the couch.

She turned to me. "We're getting better at that."

I smiled and kissed her forehead.

Just then, there was a knock at our door. We could hear the babies start to cry from the other room.

We groaned. "I'll get the door." I said.

"I'll get the babies." She replied.

I opened the door as Rebecca made her way down the hallway.

Dana stood on the other side of the door.

"Oh, hey, what's up?" I asked as I let her in.

"Sorry, I know it's kinda late, but there's a Metallica cover band playing at one of my favorite bars tonight. I was wondering if you wanted to tag along?" She asked.

"That sounds awesome, I'd love-" The babies loud cries cut my sentence short.

   I let out a sigh.

"Maybe another time, I should help Rebecca with the babies." I said, a sad look on my face.

Just then, Rebecca poked her head out from around the corner. "It's ok, babe, I can handle the babies. Hi, Dana."

Dana waved and I turned to her. "Are you sure?"

She waved me off. "Of course, go have fun."

I smiled as I ran up and gave her a quick kiss. "You're the best."

"I know." She replied with a giggle.

I gave her another quick kiss before walking back to the door. "I'll see you later, then."

"Ok, love you, be safe." She replied.

"Love you to." I said as Dana and I walked out the door.

We walked into the parking lot. "So, who's car should we take?" I asked.

"I vote for mine." She replied with a giggle and a twirl of her keys.

I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Fine."

We got into her car and she started it up, looking over to me. "Are you ready to rock?" She asked, a smirk on her lips.

   I chuckled. "Hell yeah."

She returned my chuckle before peeling out of the parking lot and down the road towards the bar...

We pulled into the parking lot and got out. Seek and Destroy played from inside the bar.

I grabbed her hand and rushed for the door.

"This is my favorite song, let's go!" I said as I pushed through the doors.

The place was packed. The majority of the people crowding the small stage in the back of the bar.

As we approached the stage, I felt a huge grin spread across my lips.

"They sound amazing!" I shouted to Dana over the loud music.

   She chuckled. "I know right?"

We head banged along to the rest of the song and after it was over, we made our way over to the bar.

"Two beers, Mel." Dana said to the bartender.

He smiled as he handed her the beers.

She paid him just as the lead singer started talking into the microphone.

"Alright, people, are you having a good time!" He shouted.

Everyone cheered, including Dana and I.

"That's great to hear. Now, let's blow the roof of this joint!" He yelled before the band broke out into another song...

Eight beers and an hour later, the band was getting ready for their last song of the night.

"You've been a great crowd, but this is our last song for the night and if you don't know this one, then you're not a true Metallica fan!" He yelled.

The band started playing their last song as I finished my ninth beer.

Dana sat next to me at the bar. "Hey! You wanna meet the band!?" She asked.

   "Seriously!?" I asked.

   She smiled and nodded.

"Hell yeah!" I replied with a smile.

After the band finished their last song, they thanked the crowd and headed backstage.

Dana took my hand and led me to the stage door, where a tall, muscular man stood.

   Dana waved as we approached.

The man smiled and opened the door for us.

I thanked him as we made our way to the dressing room.

Dana knocked on the door and after a few seconds, it opened.

The lead singer poked his head out. "Dana! Come on in!"

He opened the door and invited us in. Dana gave them all a quick hug before introducing me.

"Guys, this is Skylar, she's a friend of mine." Dana said.

"My names, Claire, I'm the lead guitarist. Nice to meet you." She said, holding her hand out for me to shake it.

One by one I shook the last three band members hands.

"Any friend of Dana's is a friend of ours." Mark, the drummer, said.

"Yeah, take a seat." Vince, the lead singer, said, gesturing towards the empty couch.

I sat down and Dana sat next to me. "You guys really rocked."

   "Thanks." Vince said.

"We try." Zach, the bassist, added.

"How about we celebrate?" Claire asked, holding a full bottle of whiskey.

   "Definitely." Vince replied.

"I don't know, I should probably be getting home." I said.

Dana put a hand on my shoulder. "C'mon, Skylar, it's just a couple drinks. Then I'll take you home, I promise."

I nodded. "Alright, but just a couple."

Everyone cheered as Claire poured out six shots. we all clinked our glasses and tossed them back.

--------

I waved goodbye as Dana pulled out of the parking lot.

I barely made it up the stairs and dropped the keys when I tried to unlock the door. Luckily, the door swung open.

"Where the hell have you been? Ive been trying to call you for hours." Rebecca said, a not so happy expression on her face.

I pulled my phone out and sighed as I saw the time and all the missed calls and texts.

"I'm sorry. We were only supposed to stay for a couple drinks, but we got distracted talking to the band." I said as I slowly made my way inside and dropped on the couch.

Rebecca joined me on the couch with a sigh. "It's ok, I was just worried about you."

I lowered my head. "I really am sorry and it won't happen again."

She gave me a small smile. "I forgive you."

I returned her smile and pulled her in for a quick kiss.

She pulled away, scrunching her nose. "How much did you drink?"

   "To much." I replied.

She laughed as she helped me up from the couch. "Well, lets get you ready for bed then, you do have work tomorrow."

   I groaned. "Don't remind me."

She rolled her eyes playfully as she led me to our room.

After getting changed, I collapsed on the bed. Rebecca joined me and kissed me on the forehead before flicking the lights off.

   "Goodnight." She said.

   "Night." I replied.
