Wake up
Chapter 1
Two men dressed in army uniforms walked through the dimly lit half abandoned base. One of them held an old army file. The file read: Abigail Maria Rogers. They walked into a room with four cryo-freeze chambers. They walked over to the centre one and pressed a button that opened it. It opened to reveal a woman with dark hair and pale skin, dressed in a protective suit. They pulled her out by the arms and together dragged her down the hall towards a van. They laid her down on a hospital gurney and loaded it into the back of the van. One of the men climbed in the front and the other got in the back. They set off driving.
About half way into the drive she woke up before she was supposed to. With a flick of her wrist a blue glow encased the man who was in the back with her and threw him into the wall. She raised his gun and shot him in the head. She swung her legs over the bed and stood. Her hair was dripping from the freeze and the suit was less than comfy. She pulled the steering wheel with her powers and put herself in a bubble as the van crashed into the side of the road.
She clambered out of the wreckage and walked round to the front of the car. She grabbed a pistol from the already dead man and used it to shoot the driver. There was a gash on her head from the crash that began to heal itself. She glanced around and saw they were in the middle of nowhere. She needed to disappear and fast. She also needed a change of clothes. She could see a city in the distance so she set off towards it. The sign read Stuttgart. She was in Germany.

When Steve Rogers was defrosted the first thing he did was go looking for the rest of his team's files. He had read them all and given all but three back to Shield. The three he kept were Agent Peggy Carter's, Sergeant James (Bucky) Barnes and Agent Abigail Rogers. He knew Bucky was dead; he'd watched him die. Peggy's file had told him that she was still alive and had lived a happy life and had a few children. He had found Abi's file the hardest to read. His sister had vanished after he put the plane in the ice and was never seen again. The rest of the commandoes were all dead but they all lived long and happy lives.
Thinking about everything he had missed gave Steve insomnia. He spent most nights in the gym training. He was working on a punching bag when visions from the war began to invade his mind. He thought of everything from the serum to the red skull to Bucky and Abi. He grew angrier at the thought that all their lives had been ripped away and punched the bag so hard it flew off the hook and landed, split open, on the floor. He stopped; breathing heavily and looked at the bag.
He then walked over to the side where there was a line of bags. He picked one up and rehooked it. He started to punch it again.
"Trouble sleeping?" A deep voice called from the entrance to the gym. Nick Fury stepped out into the light.
"I slept for seventy years, sir. I think I've had my fill." Steve said as he carried on punching.
"Then you should be out, celebrating, seeing the word." Fury said as he walked closer.
Steve stopped punching and walked over to the bench where all his stuff was and started unwrapping his hands. "When I went under, the world was at war. I wake up they say we won. They didn't say we lost." Steve muttered.
"We've made some mistakes along the way." Fury told him. "Some very recently." Steve noticed Fury was holding a file.
"You here with a mission, sir?" Steve asked.
"I am."
"Trying to get me back into the world."
"Trying to save it." Fury held out the file for Steve.
Steve took the file and looked at the familiar picture of the Tesseract. "Hydra's secret weapon." Steve mumbled.
"Howard Stark fished that out of the ocean when he was looking for you and your sister." Fury said. Steve frowned at the mention of Abi. "He thought what we think. The tesseract could be the key to unlimited sustainable energy. That's something the world sorely needs."
"Who took it from you?" Steve questioned handing the file back.
"He's called Loki. He's not from around here." Fury replied. "There's a lot we will have to bring you up to speed on if you're in. The world has gotten even stranger than you already know."
"At this point I doubt anything would surprise me." Steve said getting to his feet and picking up his bag.
"Ten bucks says your wrong." Fury said. Steve walked over and picked up one of the punching bags and went to walk out. "There's a debriefing packet waiting for you back at your apartment. Is there anything you can tell us about the Tesseract that we ought to know now?" Fury enquired.
"You should have left it in the ocean." Steve said walking out.
