Chapter 3

Yes, I know the picture above doesn't have ice blue eyes, but that's the best I could manage. I still think The Hair looks gorgeous, though. Enjoy!

I knew today was going to be a disaster the second I woke up and my Harry Potter alarm clock (don't ask) was jammed. Marella and Linh had already left for their classes since their schedule on Monday starts a half hour before mine. So I was stuck alone in rushing to get to class. Oh well. At least Tam will win his bet.

I ran the fastest I could, but I was still late to my first class, Chemistry.

I had always been terrible at Chemistry, and the Chemistry teacher in Foxfire was the worst teacher in the whole school. My horrible luck strikes again! I ran into class ten minutes late, and of course the entire class stared at me.

"Miss Foster," Ms. Galvin said icily, "How kind of you to join us." I mumbled my apologies while staring at my feet, letting my long blonde hair serve as a curtain between me and the world. "Since you took your time to come here, the only seat is next to Mr. Sencen over there."

I looked up as Ms. Galvin pointed to an empty seat next to a blonde haired, ice blue-eyed boy sitting crookedly on his chair with his feet up on the lab table. His blonde hair was artfully disheveled, and his cold ice blue eyes gleamed with mischievousness.

As we locked eyes, something flitted briefly across his face. Disappointment? Curiosity? Interest? I didn't know. My heart switched to hummingbird mode, and I was sure that my face was tomato-red as I blushed furiously.

He slowly put his feet down to the floor, and gestured in an obvious invitation. Embarrassed, I made my way over and plopped down into the chair next to him. Irritated, Ms. Galvin started lecturing again. I opened my textbook and tried to concentrate, but through the curtain of hair separating him and me, I studied him cautiously.

He was obviously popular, from the way his clothes were carefully rumpled to his blindingly handsome features to the looks and winks he threw to people across the classroom. Suddenly he looked back at me. "Done staring yet?" he asked, smirking.

"Wha-at n-n-no, I wasn't staring!" I stammered, blushing fiercely. "Oh really?" he asked cockily, "Cause it kinda seems like you are." I blushed even deeper as I tried to find a reasonable excuse. "I was uhhh... thinking."

"Oh really?" he asked, his lips pulling into a crooked grin. He was cute when he grinned.

No. Nope. Sophie, you just met him. It's a little early to start thinking he was cute. Not that I thought he was. Or that there would be a later.

"And what were you thinking about?" He asked, pulling me back to reality.

You, I almost said but stopped myself just in time. "What Ms. Galvin is lecturing about." I said, hoping he would get the note.

He didn't. He scooted his chair closer and brushed back my hair. I blushed even deeper at his touch. He looked deep into my eyes. "Oh, but making you blush is way more fun than listening to that old hag," Right on cue, I blushed yet again. My head must look like a tomato. "Look! I did it again."

I was saved from further embarrassment when Ms. Galvin started passing around the beakers. Beakers. Experiment. Ohhhh no. This cannot be happening. Frantic, I tore my gaze from his and watched, horrified, as she explained the instructions. Why an experiment now? Why when my lab partner was a popular boy? Why is the universe out to get me? I shuddered. Sencen (I had no idea what his first name was) didn't get the hint.

"Here, you start," he said, pushing the filled beaker and vials closer to me. Since my brain got turned to mush by cute (no. He is not cute. Stop thinking that self!) boys, I made the stupidest mistake ever: I accepted.

I tried to follow Ms. Galvin's instructions. "Take the yellow vial..." I took the yellow vial, aware that Sencen was still watching me. "And quickly and smoothly pour the liquid into the beaker. Now this is essential to the experiment as..." I wasn't listening. I tried my best to quickly and smoothly pour in the vial's contents, but all I did was jaggedly slop half of it in.

Crap, was all I thought. Then...

The beaker exploded.

All over me.

And all over Sencen.

Oh no.

Oh nonononono.

Cue complete chaos.

At least five different girls ran to Sencen at once, checking to make sure that he was ok when he had been hit, but I don't think the liquid touched his skin. Meanwhile, the rest of the class was yelling and standing on their chairs to avoid the yellow goo.

I was completely drenched. Most of the liquid covered my clothes and safety equipment, but a small bit hit my wrist, which promptly started to swell. Ms. Galvin grabbed my arm and examined it.

"Best go to the nurse," She said with a sigh. "Mr. Sencen, take Miss Foster to the nurse to get her wrist checked and to wipe off that goo."

"Yes Ma'am!" Sencen told her, jumping to his feet and mockingly saluting. The girls sat back down at their tables, disappointed, while all the guys glared at me some more. Sencen grabbed my upper arm and towed me out of the classroom. I tried my best not to notice him touching me.
