Chapter 12
Cale looked at his surroundings, there was no denying that the island of fish people was a very beautiful and colorful island despite all the darkness that was common here. The one-year-old toddler raised his head to glance at Izou, who looked serious and somewhat tense.
'What exactly happened huh?' Cale's brain began to process the various events put together. Firstly Shanks left Cale to travel- which he never did, Secondly, almost all of Shirohige's children left Moby Dick and Cale was too scared to imagine what mission they were on with hundreds of people leaving at the same time, lastly Izou never changed his daily schedule unless he had something he had to do immediately.
'Is anyone from the world government going to attack?' If that was true then it was the Shirohige Crew's duty to protect their territory. But was it true? It sounded too ridiculous to even think about.
Izou unconsciously led Cale into a simple house far from the city center. Didn't that man say that they were going to the city center? Strange. But what the heck, Cale couldn't walk on his own two feet yet, ugh the reminder that he couldn't do things made him a bit annoyed.
They continued to walk somewhat into the forest that existed quite far from the town. Cale threw a suspicious look at Izou who the man simply ignored, huh how rude.
It turned out to be a local restaurant that was quite small and hidden. The atmosphere was cozy, clean and well-kept, clearly passing Izou's rather strict criteria. Izou was a clean person so if he could choose, he would rather eat in a neat and cozy eatery than a bar full of sweaty men that was noisy and chaotic.
Izou led Cale into the restaurant, Cale's brownish-red pupils automatically scanned the corners. A thick Japanese-style restaurant greeted his sense of sight, it seemed that the one running this restaurant was a mermaid judging from the number of mermaids visiting this restaurant.
Judging from the picture on the menu board Cale guessed that this was a restaurant that sold traditional Japanese snacks, Oh Cale was curious about the taste of okonomiyaki here, in the past he had only ever eaten the fast food version of that food because fresh ingredients were almost impossible to find in the apocalypse. Uh but he can't eat that yet right? The spices used are still too strong for his tongue.
"Ah Izou-san! Long time no see, what would you like to order this time?" A teenage mermaid offered a menu catalog towards them.
"Yo Shyarly, are you alright?" Izou said pleasantly while flipping through the menu book. Cale sat nicely on the man's lap.
"Thanks for asking Izou-san, I'm doing well, ah does Shirohige-san have another grandchild?" Shyarly's pointed pupils stared in surprise at Cale who was looking directly into her eyes, so far Cale was the only human baby who was not afraid of her appearance.
"Yes, his name is Joshua, his father is busy on a mission from Oyaji so he left his son with me" Izou pointed to a photo of the menu that Shyarly had immediately written down. Cale stared listlessly at the menu book, he wanted to eat too, the one year old toddler finally chose to rest his back on Izou's stomach, moving to find a comfortable position.
"Is that so? He's a brave boy Izou-san, I'm sure he'll be a formidable man someday"
"I think so too, he'll grow up to be an extraordinary figure later"
"Want me to predict his future?" Izou's eyebrows furrowed at that, wouldn't her energy run out if she predicted something?
"Prophecy? Don't force yourself to do something you don't really need to Shyarly" Izou shook his head as he pushed away Cale's small hand that was trying to pull the ends of his hair.
"Take it easy Izou-san, I'm doing this happily" Izou looked at the young mermaid before nodding, as long as this didn't take too long everything would be fine right?
"Then just do it"
"Wait, I'll get my divination ball quickly" Shyarly swam? Walking? With bubbles? Headed inside the restaurant and came out with a large pearl in her hand.
"Well Joshua-kun, now I'll tell your future" Cale stared curiously at the glowing pearl ball after Shyarly touched it with both hands. Could this mermaid really predict the future? Honestly, Cale didn't really believe but this wasn't bad either, it felt the same as when one of his classmates was busy posting random zodiac predictions on his social media status.
We cut to Shyarly, her consciousness automatically entering into a scenario of events that have a high probability of occurring in the future. Shyarly circulates her vision, her breathing quick and labored as her pupils take in the chaos.
There were giants, humans, mermaids, fish people, fairies, minks, and many other tribes preparing to fight together against something Shyarly could not describe. In front of them all were about ten people at the front of a dangerously large army with a white-haired teenager standing in front of them all, obviously not far from the enemy's reach, the teenager shone like the rising sun with a smile as wide as a half-moon, pink eyes and a rather small stature.
But Shyarly's attention soon shifted to the figure next to the teenager. A tall strapping figure with deep red hair, his face was blurred but strangely his eyes were very clear. Deep black with golden stars replacing the pupils that were eroded with black. His eyes exuded an aura of high fighting spirit and desire to win but were peppered with jokes and laughter.
'Is this Joshua-kun?' Individuals with the same shade hair as Cale were quite rare. Most people had hair as red as cornrows or as red as fresh apples but it was rare to find one with hair as dark red as the sunset as Cale had.
Suddenly the battle broke out as Cale spoke softly, his graceful yet clear voice heard by all thundered in Shyarly's heart, causing an uneasy feeling in her stomach. The battlefield quickly became a sea of blood but the Allies on Cale's side did not seem worried at all as the blood was not their own. Almost all of the individuals receiving Cale's instructions were putting on their best happy faces and Shyarly knew that none of them were trying to fake it.
Cale laughed like a child who had just been bought candy by his father as many of his troops efficiently defeated all the enemies that stood in their way without wasting any energy.
Cale did not need to expend any energy at all, he just spoke normally but Shyarly knew there was something in his voice, Cale's voice could be heard by everyone clearly even though he seemed to be whispering to something unreal. Was this some kind of demon fruit? If so Shyarly would not be surprised since this boy was the grandson of the most powerful man in the world.
Shyarly clutched her left breast, trying to calm her heart that was beating too fast like the engine of a fishing boat. But while she was still processing all the things she had seen suddenly someone's voice reached her ears.
"Nu-uh not yet Shyarly-san, I'm sorry but you can't break through beyond this because it's rude" Shyarly's pupils widened and her body trembled violently as the pair of black, golden star-printed eyes stared straight at her.
'What is this, nothing like this has ever happened before!' In all the times Shyarly had used her abilities, never once had anything from the future noticed what she was doing. Shyarly had always believed that she was just an unreal projection that could see a bit of the future, which meant that she could only see, not attend, so why was this man able to find her disembodied?!.
Cale in the future grinned at Shyarly as he clapped his hands together and in that instant Shyarly was forcibly taken out of the future image.
"Shyarly? Are you okay? Hey Shyarly! Answer me!"
Shyarly's watery pupils explored the surrounding environment. The interior she recognized, well, she was back at the restaurant where she was moonlighting. Shyarly looked up and Izou's worried look was clearly visible in her eyes.
"Izou-san" Izou's expression softened, the beautiful man sat Cale down at the table and hurriedly led Shyarly to a seat. Huh when did she fall down? It looked like Shyarly was too surprised to accidentally fall off the chair she was sitting on.
"What happened, are you okay?"
Instead of answering Izou's question, Shyarly stared in horror at Cale who was also looking at her in surprise. Cale's pupils were reddish-brown, not black with gold stars, was she misjudging people? That must be it, she must have seen him wrong, that person was not Cale, he was someone else. Shyarly convinced herself continuously that the man she met was not the future Cale, it could be that Cale was not involved and he was just watching the war from a distance. Let's hope so. Hopefully.
"It's okay Izou-san, I'm just surprised"
"I don't really like this but what future did you see Shyarly? Is it bad?"
"No, I don't think Joshua-kun was involved with all that mess and was just watching from a distance" Izou raised his eyebrows slightly at the word 'mess' but seeing Shyarly's condition he didn't have the heart to ask further.
"You're sure?"
"Yes, take it easy Izou-san, Joshua-kun will be fine" Izou looked completely incredulous at Shyarly's words but did not say anything more.
Izou let the girl calm herself down by giving her space. After that strange event, Shyarly and Izou chatted as if nothing had happened a few minutes ago. Cale remained silent the whole time they were there, contemplating Shyarly's terrified expression just now, would his future be as horrible as it had been for him before he swapped bodies with Original Cale?.
Oh God let him rest! He wanted to have some carefree fun, walking under the blue sky on a foreign island while learning about the culture, economy and people. That's right! He was going to make an encyclopedia! He would explore the corners of this world and immortalize them in an encyclopedia book that he would not show to anyone other than those he trusted.
Cale was tired of living on the run, he was tired of fighting to survive, he was tired of enduring all his own pain, he was tired of trying to think calmly in all situations. Cale would have smiled broadly when saying that he was grateful and happy in his previous life with his new family to the public but still the remnants of the war made him suffer until death released him from his old world.
Unable to sleep properly at night, his appetite died when his eyes saw something cooked using charcoal or uncooked meat, records always made his brain roasted with bad memories, his emotional state was mixed up and he didn't know what else to do but live the rest of his life in laziness.
Cale shook his head, a one-year-old shouldn't be thinking about something heavy like this. He tried to distract his mind by nibbling on the ends of Izou's hair, for some reason he felt happy and satisfied every time Izou let him do that.
After finishing his meal, Izou excused himself to Shyarly then walked slowly towards the city center. He still had another half an hour to get back to the ship and he was running out of ideas for something appropriate to do in his mission to distract Cale from his father.
After ten minutes of directionless walking, Izou finally decided to rest by a public pool full of mermaids. The beautiful man lowered Cale from his arms, letting the boy play with the sand and large corals scattered all over the sides of the pool. Izou seemed to have his eyes closed but his haki kenbun was wide open, always ready to take Cale away if needed.
On the other hand, Cale was fighting with a group of mermaids that suddenly approached him exactly one second after Izou closed his beautiful pupils.
"You're so cute, aaaaa-" One of the mermaids picked him up without permission and started stroking his cheeks.
"How can there be a baby this cute? Let's go home with auntie" The other mermaid pinched Cale's cheek, making him make a high voice.
"Whose kid is it, my god this cuteness is killing me" Why do all these damn mermaids not know the meaning of privacy?!.
"Cuteness overload!"
"Abwaa" Cale protested by hitting every hand that touched him without permission, but still a baby who couldn't even walk like him couldn't do much about it.
"Yeah baby, it's okay we don't bite, don't be scared"
Those damn mermaids kept playing with Cale like a pretty doll despite Cale's best efforts to show that he did not like being treated like that. Cale's anger peaked and he couldn't take all the damn, bastard, hellish crap anymore-
"Uhhh Daaaadaaaaa hwaaaaa" Like any baby, Cale cried loudly like a depressed person who was always convinced there was no tomorrow for him.
Izou jumped up startled from his sleep, his ears ringing so loudly that it made his head dizzy.
"Kid? What's wrong with you?!" Izou quickly took Cale from the black-haired mermaid's arms.
"Gosh what are you guys doing huh?!" The mermaids gasped in shock at the tone Izou used. They had never seen the 16th division commander so angry like that.
"Forgive us! We had no idea that child was under your supervision!" They bowed, almost kowtowing, Izou could be terrifying if he needed to be and angering one of Shirohige's commanders could be fatal to their homeland.
"Of course he's in my custody, he's Oyaji's grandson!" The damn mermaids trembled violently as Shirohige's name was uttered from Izou's mouth, they bowed even more deeply towards the beautiful man.
"Sorry! Really, please forgive us! Please forgive us!"
Izou glanced at them then let out a rough sigh, without saying anything he led Cale away from the crowd, there were still twenty minutes, he was very sorry for making Cale uncomfortable on his birthday. He should have been better than this for his nephew.
Cale gently patted the back of Cale who was still sobbing, it seemed that his nephew really hated the touch of strangers and that was normal for a baby, Cale must have been scared because he couldn't do anything. Izou's forehead furrowed, a regretful expression fixed on his pretty face.
"Sorry baby, I promise I won't let you out of my sight again okay? Let's stop by the toy store, I'll buy you anything you want" Cale's beautiful pupils widened slightly at the word 'toy', his baby instincts laughed happily and he let his instincts take over.
"I promise, now let's go to the toy store" Cale's sobbing stopped instantly, he tightened his little fingers on Izou's arm, a signal to take him away quickly.
Izou kept his promise, Cale went home with a black stuffed dog in his arms, the doll reminded Cale of Choi Han. The old man who could not age, his comrade-in-arms, his closest bestfriend, the one who sincerely protected him, his family. Cale missed them, really, he missed his family a lot.
"Well my dear, your father is waiting at Moby dick, let's go home" Cale looked up, reddish brown pupils meeting golden brown, Cale smiled at Izou. His little fingers held firmly onto the doll before he removed the fingers of his right hand to grip Izou's clothes.
Cale closed his eyes with a satisfied grin etched on his face, this one was also his family.
........................................................................
Cale ended up falling asleep on the way home. He didn't notice the flock of Shirohige's children shuffling back to the Moby with their own gifts, nor did he notice his father and all the Akagami crew executives returning with faces covered in pastry cream and clothes stinking of broken eggs.
Cale opened his eyes an hour later. He heard his father's voice as usual, soothing him to wake up happily.
"Hey champ, sleep well? Wake up, daddy has something for you" Shanks lifted Cale up and sat him on the bed. The bright red-haired man began to gently kiss Cale's face, inserting loving words and positive affirmations, as he always did every day.
"Dada?" Cale held Shanks' cheeks with his two chubby hands, his father quickly kissing his hands with his firm nose.
"Yes baby, I'm here sweetheart"
"Oh right Cale, do you want to see the view outside?" Before Cale could answer, Shanks had already lifted his son to stand closer to the large window in the room.
"Look Cale, you slept until late afternoon, time doesn't seem to pass for you huh? What a lazy boy" Once again Shanks pecked Cale's cheek anxiously and stopped when his son babbled in protest.
"But seriously son, time flies for people who enjoy their time, like you who enjoy your dear sleep"
"Time is like a double edged sword, it can be your greatest weapon when you are patient in changing yourself for the better but it can also be the first to kill you from behind when you don't utilize it properly."
Cale stared intensely at his father, the serious look of Shanks always brought a feeling of wanting to listen from anyone, the red-haired captain always had his own charm in captivating others.
"To be honest after having you, I was always afraid of the possibilities, I didn't want you to get hurt, I hated seeing you cry, I was happy when you were happy and my heart broke into a peaces every time I heard you cry in pain" For a moment Shanks' face was very sad but his smile returned as he continued his words.
"I've never felt this way about someone before, I'm really sorry and I apologize for not finding you sooner, if only I knew that this is what it's like to have a blood family that I love with all my heart"
Shanks kissed Cale's forehead and stroked his cheek with his thumb, he knew his son probably wouldn't understand everything he said today, but as his father, Shanks wanted to tell Cale about his feelings, about how much he loved his son.
"I admit that your presence wasn't I expected, but you are the best surprise I have ever gotten in my life"
"Son, you are my best treasure, half of my life, my fortune, my whole pride and everything to me, my son, thank you for being born into the world, thank you for choosing me as your father, thank you for staying by my side, I love you with all of my heart, happy birthday, my little star."
Cale's pupils widened at his father's warm smile and his mouth dropped open as the wind blew away their red hair.
His head was empty as his father led him out of the room and his head was even emptier when he saw the sight of everyone gathered in Moby's main room, smiling faces greeting him.
They all grinned widely as they collectively said "Happy birthday Cale!!!" With the explosion of dozens of confetti that contained too much glitter. Now Cale and his father's red hair was filled with glitter.
Cale can't describe how he feels right now. His soul was over a hundred years old and had experienced hundreds of birthdays celebrated, from a simple greeting from a social media app to a lavish party held over one day by his family.
This party was no different from the ones he had spent with his family before, everyone's sincere words made him very happy. Cale always thanked himself for managing to survive the unlucky fate that was convoluted due to the effects of that damn white cabbage curse, otherwise he wouldn't have enjoyed his first party in this third world he lived in.
"Cale let's go see your presents" Shanks carried his son towards the present area which was deliberately placed on the floor with a mat as a base for Cale to easily reach them with his chubby fingers.
Cale was carefully lowered by his father, he began to explore the hundreds of gifts packed in attractive packaging that was environmentally friendly and easy for a baby of Cale's age to open. The one-year-old's fingers tore through the largest wrapping paper that came from his own father.
He was so focused on crumpling the red-and-white polka-dot patterned paper that he didn't realize that everyone was watching him without blinking, Benn even had a Cameko mushi den ready in his hand. Two minutes later Cale managed to open his present. Three dolls in total, two medium-sized and one large.
Cale froze, his hands shaking, his skin paled and his heart pounded with something he couldn't describe.
"Cale? Baby?"
"What's wrong Cale? Don't you like the present?"
Cale didn't hear the worried questions from the crowd or the unusual frown on his father's face, he was too busy staring at the dolls to care about anything else. Three dolls, one red-cat, one silver-cat and the Big black dragon. Ahh, what he's supposed to do now? He knew them too well, he can't see them again and it stung at his heart.
"Cale?"
Shanks' expression turned frantic as a handful of water fell from his son's beautiful eyes, it was only a few drops at first, but within seconds they turned into a rushing river.
"Cale!"
The youngest Yonkou son was startled and out of nowhere Cale started crying. Cale wouldn't stop crying even though Shanks had done many things to persuade him to stop, after all crying for too long was bad for his son's weak lungs. The party ended quickly, everyone tried to comfort their favorite baby but Cale just wouldn't stop crying.
Hongo and Marco had even checked on the Akagami's son but they found nothing wrong with Cale's body, proving that Cale was crying purely because he wasn't feeling well. This left everyone wondering what went wrong in their efforts to make this party so that Cale was crying because he felt uncomfortable about something.
Cale's cries were soft and small but full of pain and something deep. Shanks understood that kind of cry too well, he start to cried too because he couldn't figure out what made his favorite son wail like this.
That day, what should have been a festive party to celebrate Cale's first birthday became a crying session that was heartbreaking and painful to watch between father and son.
..........................................................................
Two months after his first birthday, Cale started learning to walk. He always fell over when he tried to stand up, much to his father's dismay. But Hongo was always faithful to explain to the single father who served as his captain that it was okay for Cale to walk late because he was physically weaker than other babies his age.
Cale wanted to give the sight of him walking smoothly as a birthday present to his father who would be celebrating in two months. Therefore, Cale only wanted to learn to stand when he was alone, he wanted to show the results to Shanks as an act of apology because he had ruined his own first birthday party two months ago.
Cale was really ashamed of himself that day, how could he mess up a party that was tailor-made just for him alone. Fortunately no one blamed Cale for their inconvenience, Shirohige and his children actually asked how Cale was doing every day for a whole week after their favorite boy's birthday was celebrated.
It was just that Cale couldn't help himself after seeing three dolls that resembled his children in his previous life. Memories of the happy and beautiful memories he spent with his children swirled endlessly until his head wanted to explode and he ended up crying from the pain.
That day Cale just realized that he was no longer in the same world as his family, all this time he knew that it was true but only that day the painful fact stuck in his head. Everything was piercing when he thought that he would never see them again no matter what, he could only see them in his memories, he could only review and hold on to the memories they had collected without being able to renew them again.
He could no longer drink warm jasmine tea and eat cookies while berating the nobles down to their bloodlines with Alberu, cheap gossip about every damn thing with Cage and Taylor, accompany his nieces and nephews to play, visit many places with everyone, interrupt Basen's or Lily's free time whenever he wanted, break into Eruhaben's research lab and sleeping there without being scolded.
Going shopping with his plenty already-grew-up-kids, cooking every meal with the slowly aging Beacrox, watching Choi Han teach the knight candidates every morning Tuesday through Saturday, doing Ohn's hair every time she wanted to go to work, listen carefully to Hong's babbling everytime, feeding Raon even though he was no longer a child everyday and many other things he could no longer do with them.
Cale might be able to repeat those activities with someone else but the feel of those new memories wouldn't be the same with his old memories and he more than know why it's really harsh to look for someone in someone.
Cale wanted to learn, he had to learn. He would learn to accept his current life, with his father, the Akagami crew members, his grandfather and his grandfather's children without forgetting and looking for his old family in his new family. He had to learn to let go of what had happened and start having fun without forgetting all the memories they had gone through, Cale would, he had to learn to move on.
Starting from focusing on learning to walk.
...........................................................................
Two months later, Cale quietly able to walked without anyone knowing. He always learned when he was alone and slowly Cale mastered his body to walk properly. The great timing, today was his father's birthday. It was the day Cale had been waiting for to show off his hard work over the past two months.
All of Akagami's crew would be celebrating their captain's birthday on board because the next island was two days away from their current speed and it would be dangerous if they made Red Force sail any faster. Lucky had finished decorating a large two-tiered cake with their captain's stupid face as the main decoration.
Shanks' birthday was celebrated simply, no surprises, even the man helped his friends prepare a small celebration for himself. A two-tiered cake with Shanks' face imprinted in the center of the cake, dozens of plates filled with special food from various islands cooked by crews from their native islands, alcohol with ice cubes scattered on the edge of the table and the crew laughing at the sight of Shanks unpacking their gifts one by one were the sights Cale saw at this time.
Cale was currently sitting on Building Snake's lap because his father was too excited to hold him and Hongo's social battery was drained within twenty minutes of the party starting until the man went to his room to restore his energy.
"Nake down! Down!" Cale's vocabulary was increasing rapidly these days, he could already pronounce and string together at least two words for others to understand.
"Hmm? Do you want to go down? I'll get the mat first." An unwritten rule since Cale had managed to crawl was the prohibition of putting Cale down on the floor without a proper mat, Shanks loved his son too much to see Cale's smooth skin chafed by the wooden floor.
The sight of Cale playing in every corner of the ship became normal for the Akagami crew, never did they imagine that one day their captain would raise a child on board, well not that they would protest, Cale was too cute to be ignored and disliked.
Cale began to crawl closer to his father, he decided to show the latest skill he mastered right now because he was getting sleepy but didn't want to lose the moment to make his father happy. When he was close, Cale held his body with both hands touching the ground, slowly his body rose upwards and he managed to stand up perfectly.
"Dadaa!" Cale called his father in a very cheerful tone and as usual, Shanks would focus his attention on his son, evidenced by the man immediately looking down when Cale called him.
"Hmm? What baby-Cale?! You- you're standing up! Hey, what is this, ah-" Shanks was at a loss for words, he quickly got out of the chair and knelt not far from Cale, his mouth still gaping in disbelief.
"Holy shit he's standing!" Hysterical continued, the originally quiet crew became extremely crowded, everyone wanted to see what happened until the usually quieter dining hall became noisy and felt very full.
"Someone better be get the fucking cameco! We need to document this and roll them to the history documenter!" Yassop screaming loudly and followed by busy footsteps from Benn who came back with a lil cameco den in his hands.
"Cale want to walk? Come on baby, let's go to daddy, just take it slow son."
And so Cale did, he started with small steps that were a bit shaky because he felt so excited. Everyone held their breath as that happened, the originally crowded ship's dining hall became quiet.
Step by step Cale explored with a big smile on his face, he never thought he would feel this happy just for walking. Being reborn into a baby made him even more sensitive to his surroundings huh.
"Dada!" His son called out in between his satisfied laughter. Tears gathered under Shanks' eyes, his son was walking! His little light had entered another phase of his life and Shanks managed to see it without feeling drunk!.
And. And. And! And Cale finally made it to his father's warm embrace after a few steps of walking. He did it! He could walk! He could move more freely! Cale laughed loudly as his father's tear-filled cheek rubbed against his own.
He also managed to make his father feel happy on his birthday.
Mission accomplished!
..........................................................................
For Shanks, Cale was everything. His son was always perfect but sometimes Shanks felt like his son wasn't here with him. Shanks knew Cale's gaze very well, the gaze of a veteran trying hard to survive in the midst of war. Shanks didn't understand what was really going on, he felt sick every time he saw Cale daydreaming and ended up with a fever.
Plus his son was physically weaker than other children and it was all his fault, his fault for not being able to become a more righteous person and learn to control himself. He tried hard, he really did, but sometimes he felt that he wouldn't be enough to fill his son's love tank.
Shanks wanted to be a father that his son could rely on, he was willing to do anything for Cale's happiness. Therefore, he complied with all of Cale's requests for his birthday presents even though they sounded strange. Like on Cale's second birthday, his son asked Shanks to make a super large black painted wooden sword for him.
Shanks thought Cale would just play around with it but no, Cale did not. Instead, his son asked for Hongo's latex gloves and placed them next to the wooden sword he got in the large glass cabinet. Shanks tried to ask his son but Cale said that it looked pretty as a room decoration. The same thing happened on his third birthday, Cale asked for an antique tea set with a painting of a lemon inside the cup and again placed it next to the big sword.
This was repeated on Cale's fourth birthday where he asked for a replica of a bird's nest made of gold, this one Shanks had a little trouble getting it but he managed to find a suitable craftsman and burned the money there but it's okay, money can be recovered but his son's happiness will never be repeated twice. And well as you might have guessed, Cale put it in his glass collection cabinet which is always neat without a speck of dust.
This time it was Cale's fifth birthday, his son asked Shanks to buy him a lot of wolf-shaped dolls and a pointed wooden wand like the witches in the novels that was sturdy and beautiful. Shanks gave it to him quickly and he was very happy because Cale was always happy with what others gave him.
Little did he know that his adorable little son was already a far cry from his baby self. Cale grew up to be a quiet and somewhat reserved child. He loved reading storybooks, listening to his father tell stories, asking questions about things and helping Lucky cook things in the kitchen.
"Daddy!"
The red hair past his shoulders, the pale skin that looked much healthier than before, the smug smile and glowing face of his son put a big smile on Shanks' face. He spread his arms, preparing to catch the little red one. When Cale landed in his arms, Shanks lifted him high and kissed his forehead gently.
"Happy birthday and Daddy always love you Cale"
