Love Spells (AVAILABLE)

Genre(s): Fantasy, Teen Fiction, YA

Plot:

To be true love there must be freedom. When you take away the choice to love it becomes merely a figment of the imagination and Opal Crenshaw learns this lesson the hard way.

Opal is a modern day witch, an angry young witch at that, whose mother owns her own holistic medicine shop called Once Upon a Thyme. She maybe would like working there with her mother if she didn't have to work the dreaded front counter, but that is her place.

As Opal reads through her family Book of Shadows to study for her next touchstone she stumbles across a love spell that intrigues her. She asks her mother about said love spell along with a couple others that she throws in there to keep her from being suspicious and her mother informs her that the spell never turns out the way you think.

Opal gives up the idea of using the love spell and life goes on as normal: school, work, and studying.

One day while she's working a boy comes in and he looks rather familiar. After talking to him a bit she realizes he goes to her school. She helps him to get what he needs and he invites her to go get pizza sometime.

Opal agrees to go out with Nicholas Greer and excitedly tells her mother who is weary about her dating, but she lets her go anyways.

The pizza and arcade games go well. Actually it went better than well, it was great, and Opal really enjoys Nicks company.

Nick and Opal see each other a few times at school since they both have busy schedules. It seems as though Nick may be drifting away from her already and Opal can't help but to think about that love spell.

Opal texts Nick to see if he'd like to hangout again and he's short with her telling her that he has too much going on with graduation right around the corner. Opal pulls out the Book of Shadows and searches for the love spell.

She does exactly what the book says for her to do and then she waits to see if it worked. When Nick never texts her back she assumes it didn't and she sulkily goes to school the next day.

Opal bumps into Nick at school and he is extremely nice to her. He takes her book and backpack while walking her to class. He even opens the door for her and she can't help but to smile to herself. It actually worked.

They hangout as often as possible and it seems that Nick is falling even more in love with her. He asks her if they can make it official and of course she agrees happily.

It seems that everything is going perfect, almost too perfect. They never fight, Nick will whatever Opal wants, and he can't seem to get enough of her. It is as if she is the only thing that consumes his every thought.

Opal is working at Once Upon A Thyme one weekend when a woman walks in. She comes straight to the counter and she looks exhausted.

Opal asks the woman what it is she needs and the woman says she is Nicholas' mother. She says that she needs Opal to stop seeing her son because it seems as though their relationship is unhealthy.

Opal asks her to elaborate and Mrs. Greer explains that Opal has pictures of her covering an entire wall in his room. That he hasn't been eating the same anymore and that he's given up on his dream of going to college so that he doesn't have to leave Opal.

Opal is shocked and though she wants to listen to Mrs. Greer she decides against it because she can't bear the thought of not seeing Nick anymore.

When Opal feels she is being followed one day after work she is pretty freaked out and so she puts a protection spell on the house. Nothing happens that night and she thinks that it must've been her being paranoid.

Her final exams at school are nearing and she and Nick study together. Not only are final exams coming up though, but so is her last Touchstone.

She tells Nick that she is going to be busy for a while because she has to study for her Touchstone and he seems distressed at her statement.

In the middle of the night a sound wakes her and when she opens her eyes she sees someone staring at her through her window. She screams, but right away she realizes that it's Nick.

She opens her window and asks him what he's doing and he tells her he just loves her so much he can't stay away.

Opal realizes that this has gone on way too far and decides to break up with him. She avoids him at school and when she finally does see him he looks like death.

She looks up ways to break the spell, but she can't find anything.

Nick seems to become more obsessed with her and the stalking continues. She figures out she can't handle the situation on her own and goes to her mother.

Her mother is disappointed with her and informs her that they must go to the library in California to get a book that would contain a spell to break what Opal has done.

By the time they get the book and make it back Nick has starved himself to the point that he's hospitalized.

Opal breaks the spell and visits him in the hospital apologizing to him as he lays there in a coma. She tells him everything she did to him and how she is so sorry.

A month passes and graduation is finally there. She hadn't seen Nick since the hospital, but she had heard that he made a full recovery.

Nick sees Opal at their graduation and pulls her aside to speak with her. He tells her that he heard everything she said and that he accepts her apology. She asks if they could start over and he agrees.
