Plot:

Wallace Nimbly is a vampire in a world where humans and fantasy creatures coexist. Not only is Wallace a vampire though, he's a nerdy vampire who's on the brink of losing his mind if he doesn't find a new career.

Wallace is blood tester for ReVamp Labs and while he's doing a good thing the monotony of it is just too much for him.

To Wallace's dismay the only thing that seems even remotely interesting that he can qualify for is being a blood tester for the Los Angeles Homicide Unit. He applies for the job and gets called in for an interview.

His interview goes well and he takes the job. His first few weeks being a part of the unit are a drag, but when a woman is found dead and posed in a park things take a turn.

Wallace tastes her blood and gives his analysis, but there's something in it that he can't identify. The cops chalk it up to his inexperience in the field, but once they call in a seasoned vampire and she can't identify the substance either they are on edge.

Against orders Wallace decides to do his own investigating and is caught by the lead detective.

Natalie Rich, a human, and Los Angeles' finest detective is a force to be reckoned with. She has a bad attitude, is sarcastic, and knows what she wants. Despite her flaws she is good at her job and hesitantly takes Wallace under her wing.

When another body shows up in a new location Natalie secretly calls on Wallace for his help and he gladly obliges. Together they compile any and all the information they can. Natalie uses brunt tactics to get witnesses to talk and Wallace is actually a little afraid of the petite human.

More bodies are discovered and it seems as though they aren't getting any closer to figuring out the killers identity or the mysterious substance they are using. Wallace stumbles upon something they overlooked and Natalie is ecstatic.

The excitement slowly turns to chaos as it turns out the killings are deeper than they could have ever imagined and when the killer figures out they are catching on Natalie finds a head on her doorstep.

The head belongs to someone/something close to Wallace and now he isn't sure he wants to be a part of the investigation any longer. He resigns from the force and goes back to working at ReVamp Labs.

Natalie believes that she can solve the case on her own. After all she's solved every other case on her own, but she soon comes to find that this one has special circumstances or perhaps she just wants Wallace to come back.

Natalie begs Wallace to continue to help her and tells her that he can stay working at ReVamp since she just wants him to meet with her once a week to help her gather information.

Wallace, against his better judgement, gets sucked back into the case. The net of lies and secrecy is so tangled that they are both starting to question whether or not they can handle it, but when they catch the killer in the act that's when they know for sure they aren't.

It takes them several days of tracking, but they finally come face to face with Ronan Wester. Ronan is the leader of the UnMundane movement and has been killing humans as an experiment to see if he can demolish the entire human race.

An intense fight ensues and Natalie is nearly killed. Wallace, after a few failed attempts, is able to detain Ronan until the police arrive. Ronan is arrested and tried for murder, but kills himself shortly after leaving them with no clues as to what the mystery substance may be.

Natalie is in the hospital, but it seems as though she is going to make a full recovery and Wallace is offered a job as Natalie's partner and he takes it.

They make a great team working on other cases and it seems as though life is starting to become less chaotic, but when a new body shows up and Wallace can't identify a substance that is in their blood they realize the killings are far from being over.
