The night was frosty and dead still, without a whisper of noise from the haunting woods surrounding the Death family's estate. However, a sudden crash reverberated throughout the manor's long, winding halls.
Geno jolted awake with an undignified snort, eye sockets wide and left eyelight ablaze. The blue-red glow slowly subsided as he came down from his startled awakening.
Blinking blearily, he lazily prodded the other side of the bed. "Ugh... Reaper, get up. I heard a noise from downstairs."
After multiple attempts to rouse the death god to no avail, Geno frowned.
"Reaper?" The glitch tiredly turned his skull to where his husband had settled when they went to bed, only to see the spot empty.
"Of course." He grumbled.
Geno sluggishly climbed out of bed before tossing a nearby robe over his nightwear, then armed himself with the lengthy metal candlestick holder sitting on his nightstand and crept out of the bedroom.
Moonlight seeped in through the windows. It just barely illuminated the halls enough for the glitch to navigate them without bumping into anything. Nothing appeared out of the ordinary as he traversed the upper floor, leading him to sneak his way over to the staircase. He carefully descended it, his feet tactfully avoiding all the squeaky boards.
Upon reaching the final step, a faint clicking sound could be heard in the distance. Geno followed the noise until it led him to a doorway. He halted outside and glared into the darkness. The silhouette of a crouched figure with its back turned laid veiled in the shadows cast by the moonlight.
The glitch took a single step into the room- his fractured soul pounding in his ribcage, all the while.
A single blue light instantly swerved to meet his steely gaze. At that same moment, Geno flicked the light switch "on" and prepared to send his weapon hurtling at the figure. However, the candlestick holder never left his hands. It remained held aloft while the glitch examined the scene revealed to him: Reaper hunched over a spilled garbage can with a day-old sandwich clutched tightly in his hands.
He lowered his weapon with a scowl and hissed, "Reaper, get out of the trash!"
The raven-winged skeleton startled and shot up into the air, frantically flying around before smacking face-first into the kitchen window.
While he keened and slid down the glass, Geno sighed. "I left the Save Screen for this..."
