The Unicorn Girl

My head whipped back and forth as I walked through the place, searching for the soul I had too reap. This place creaps me out, with how quiet it was. It defintitly wasn't the good kind of silence, and reminded me of the static noise from when I first died. I didn't like that, but I have to deal with it.

I heard someone talking about something, but I couldn't quite make out what it was. I started walking in that direction, although I wasn't sure if I was supposed to go there. As I got closer, I saw two people with plauge doctor masks, although one of them only covered the mouth and nose. The man with the smaller mask had brown hair and yellow eyes. Just as I got there, the person with the full mask got turned into nothing more than a splat of blood. I gulped, shuddering. That must've been the soul I was supposed to reap... Although, how did that happened?

It must be the brown haired man's quirk..

I shook my head, stepping away nervously. I'd rather not deal with that. The sight of it made me want to puke. While I had dealt with death before, seeing as I'm a reaper, I had never actually witnessed something like that. I gulped back my nervousness, as I took a shaky step forward. I slowly got closer to the soul, preparing to cut the string that attached it to the blood splatter on the wall. There really wouldn't be a point in trying to revive them, as much as I hate it. The brown haired man had already left, going to do something or another. Based on the cleanliness of the place, probably to get something to remove the blood splatter. I quickly cut through the string, before sheathing my scythe.

I didn't have to reap anymore souls today, as I had already done a hundred or so, and I had nothing better to do, so I decided to look around the place. Even if the place creaps me out, I was curious, and I got a weird feeling that I'd have to come back to this place soon.

I started wandering around the halls, used to the silence that my footsteps brought.

I heard sobbing from somewhere inside the building.

Sobbing... Someone was in pain. I didn't want anyone to be hurt if I could help it. I started walking towards the sobbing. Walking quickly turned into running. I stopped in front of a door, and phased through it. I saw a little girl, curled up and crying into her knees. She had wavy white hair, a horn on the side of her forehead, what looked to be a washed out hospital gown, and bandages all over.

She looked up at me, her large red eyes filled with tears. She could see me..

She scampered away from me, fear evident in her eyes. I quicky pulled my hood off my head, revealing my face to her. I knew that having my hood up could seem pretty intimidating..

She only seemed even more scared, though. "D-don't h-hurt me, pl-please!" she said shakily. I crouched down, and smiled, "hey, it's okay.. I know I look scary, but I won't hurt you."

She only whimpered in response, trying to shrink away from me. My smile wavered, but I was determined to make this girl feel better. I backed up a bit, trying to show that I wouldn't harm her. "There's no need to be scared, honest."

She shook her head, "n-no, y-your one of th-those p-people wh-who try t-to t-take me a-away, wh-when O-Overhaul takes me a-apart.."

She's encountered a reaper before, multiple times? What the hell are these people doing to her?!

I looked down, and nodded, finding no point in lying. "Yeah.. I'm a reaper, but I'm not going to take you away. I promise"

She still looked doubtful, glancing at my scythe nervously. Oh. She must be scared of my scythe. It is a weapon...

I unsheathed my scythe, and placed it on the ground, before kicking it to one side of the room. "There. Now I can't hurt you."

This seemed to comfort her slightly. "W-well then, wh-why are you here, if y-you aren't here to t-take me?" she asked, still seeming worried.

"I heard you crying, so I came to see what was wrong." I responded, allowing my concern to show on my face.

She looked away from me, "it doesn't matter, I'm just a curse..."

I looked at her sadly, "hey, don't say that about yourself! You're not a curse, I can assure you! And anyway, why would you think that?"

She looked confused, "I only ever hurt people...."

I grabbed the little girl's face, and looked her in the eyes, "listen up, you don't only hurt people. In fact, I'll bet that you haven't hurt anyone! So no, your not a curse."

Tears started to brim her eyes, but I couldn't tell if they were happy or sad.

She started crying into my shoulder, repeating the words "thank you" over and over again. "H-hey, there's no need to thank me, honestly! I'm just telling the truth.." I mumbled awkwardly.

Awhile later, we ended up playing with some of her toys, which seemed to make her pretty happy, although she wasn't exactly smiling, I could see a glint of happiness in her eyes.

Seeing the little girl happy, made me feel happy too.

Some things just don't change, like my desire to help others.

After awhile of playing, the girl seemed pretty tired. "hey, you should probably get some rest. Oh, by the way, you can call me Izuku!" I said to her, and she nodded while yawning, "I'm Eri.."

As I left the building, I knew that I would be back, even if I didn't have to reap more souls there.

I knew I would be back, to help out a little girl named Eri, who was introduced to the shadows of the world far too young.
