Part III: Chapter 8

So I've almost finished writing part iii chapter 10 and I have started 11 and I just have the epilogue to complete before we are done with the main story!!!!! Omg I'm so happy. Writing this story was truly the highlight of my year this year and I am a bit sad to see the main story be finished. Of course there will be extra chaps as I've said before but those will come out more slowly as I will be beginning to write the other story I had planned to make after this.

I feel so bittersweet.

............

His father stood at a door in the final memory he had to see. And unlike most of the memories Adrien had seen before, he actually recognised the door they were on front of. He knew who was on the other side before his father had even pushed the door open quietly and entered the room.

His father slowly moved closer to the large bed, where a small lump was in the middle, soundly asleep. It was Adrien, younger than he even remembered himself, not even completely grown into his appearance of now. Vaguely, he recalled that this was before his father had started training him properly.

Speaking oh his father, he just stared at Adrien for a bit, making him feel uncomfortable as he wondered, had this ever happened before? He didn't even know what was going on through his father's mind as he stared at the small and vulnerable Adrien sleeping on front of him. What sort of cruel things had he been thinking looking at the frail child? What sort of manipulative ways had he been conjuring to use on the defenceless little kid sleeping so quietly on front of him?

From almost out of nowhere- though Adrien caught the small wave of his hand- a butterfly materialised in front of him, fluttering louder than the breaths his father was taking. And it was then that Adrien's suspicion for why his father had even entered his room was almost, if not already completely confirmed. If that didn't confirm it, the next action showed what Adrien had dreaded the most.

His father sent the butterfly into Adrien.

And everything made so much sense.

How he had been so susceptible to his father's teachings. How no matter how hard he had tried, he couldn't break free of the large shadow which trapped him, like a cage he couldn't escape. How even though he knew his father was wrong, even though his time away from his father and with Marinette had taught him that, he would still come back, he would still obey eventually. His father always had the means to control him, the only reason he couldn't completely was because he hadn't known back then just how unwilling Adrien's soul was. Just how much it would fight to keep him from becoming the puppet of the former Lune Supreme.

He hadn't anticipated the strength of his son, despite his need for his son to be the strongest, especially after the knowledge of his God blood and destiny came to light. Only he wanted to use it to engulf the masses into darkness.

So even with the butterfly within him, it didn't work as well as his father wanted. His control wasn't finite, only small and unreliable for the goal he had.

It was only after he had died and after he had managed to figure out and refine the details of his dark craft, that he understood, for him to fully control Adrien, their souls had to meld into one.

Adrien wondered if Marinette had a semblance of understanding that something like this would happen, and so their bond became thicker than the barrier between Luneith and Soleria. Had her reason for imprisoning him also been for her to establish their soul bond properly so his father had no chance of ever fully controlling him. Because with their souls intertwined, Hawkmoth could never do so.

If so, Adrien found himself thanking her more, even if her actions were only a coincidence. Though knowing her, it never was.

Adrien wished he could see her again, rather than his father who was doing his utmost best to gain full control of him, something he knew now would never completely happen. But that didn't mean Hawkmoth didn't have some control, especially since the akuma had been residing in him for a long time.

If there was only one way Adrien could get rid of his father, he had to do it.

............

"Adrien please. If you can hear me, help me please."

It didn't take long for him to respond through the glow of the bead on Marinette's finger, which had partially helped her to communicate with him in the first place, though half of that connection she reached out to him with was their soul bond. It was good to know that it was at least working properly, so maybe Luka's theory that their ability to have the other's injuries was an instability because Marinette hadn't been entirely herself for quite some time was untrue.

Marinette quickly removed the ring from her person, whispering to it, "Just a little longer Adrien. Hang in there just a little longer," she pleaded before quickly giving it a kiss and silently wishing he could feel it or at least feel her desperate yearn to see him and hold him again and her desire to protect him from the rest of the world as if he was just a small kitten who knew nothing of the world. Though, in this case he was more like a ferocious cat which had been thrown and dragged and pulled by the world around him, and it made her want to protect him more, "I miss you."

She gave the glowing bead one last look before raising her hand and throwing the ring with all her might. Rapidly, she casted a protection shield around her and the others (though she knew the explosion would not harm her) and the watched as such a tiny thing which looked so precious and fragile became a weapon of mass destruction in mere seconds.

They knew they had to act quick, so once the explosion started to create a crack in the never-ending walls of the prison, there was only a small window of time where they could jump and break through it properly. So that was exactly what they did. They all jumped at the same time, Marinette's shield still around the four of them, and with the force of who people saw as the group of most powerful immortals, they broke through the defences of the Emperor just like that.

............

The Solerian troops were already at the Celestial Lands, where Marinette knew Adrien was. And she knew for a fact that Luneith's troops were on the other side, though they would make no moves unless to defend themselves. It was Soleria who was there to attack.

Her uncle was leading the soldiers which spread across the celestial lands. There had been even more than Luka had said. Could her Uncle have gathered so many more and trained them in the small time they had before Marinette came back? Knowing her uncle, she knew that may be the case.

But all she cared about right now was getting to the bridge, where everyone's attention was already focused on, where Adrien was, fighting for control over his own body, where the love of her life was, where so many soldiers were heading straight to.

"We'll hold off the troops Marinette. Don't worry about it and go stop the Emperor and get to Destruction quickly," Luka told her and even though she gave him a worried look despite already discussing beforehand.

"Thank you, all of you."

She didn't hear if they replied because she was immediately on her way to the Emperor, who had not yet noticed she was there.

That was until she landed a small distance on front of him, the land shaking as it shared her fury directed at the Emperor, "I will not let you pass," her authoritative voice travelled through the long acres of land and caused write a few of the soldiers to stop marching, "On this sacred land, I will not tolerate it's peace being disrupted."

"Princess Marinette," the Emperor bellowed back, "I demand you to move."

She let out an incredulous laugh, "Move? Do you seriously think that after everything that has happened, I would do as you say? If so I can see you have become delusional, uncle. How will you rule when you are like this?" She gestured to his entire self with her hands in a mocking manner. She was done with being nice to him.

As she predicted, he began to scoff and just as he opened his mouth, he was cut off by someone landing besides her, "Sorry I'm late," the person said, "I had to deal with a tortoise trying to race me in the mortal realm."

It was Alix, who seemed to be wearing the same thing as when Marinette saw her last time. Meaning, even though it had been months for Marinette since they last saw each other, it was likely only minutes, a few hours at most.

"Go help the others with removing weaponry from their possession. Before that, did you bring it?" She asked, not even looking at Alix who had just arrived.

Alix gave her a smug look, even if Marinette didn't actually see it, "Of course, your Highness."

She passed something to Marinette and left to help the others, leaving Marinette to quickly inspect the object. She then looked back to the Emperor who looked like steam was going to come out of him, like the boiling cauldron she would use to make potions with. He was fuming.

"Right," Marinette smiled as she fiddled with the object Alix had given to her, "As I said, I will not let you pass."

"You may be my niece but you can't fight against all of my soldiers together."

"It's like you have forgotten," another laugh, "I am Creation. I don't need to fight in order to prevent you from getting near him. All I need to do is this."

She raised her palms and directed her magic to flow out around her and around the entirety of the bridge, where Adrien was. It caused a lot of soldiers to stop in their traps, mouths agape, some exclaiming in shock as they watched the famed power of Creation come into full play. The shield was her signature red with black spots, a larger version of the one everyone had seen during the immortal exams. But this was on a scale greater than anyone had seen. Whilst it took hundreds and thousands of immortals to create a shield around the Howling Spirits prison , the shield she created was double the size and her attempt to create it was effortless.

There was no doubt that her power was immeasurable.

Once the shield was up Marinette ignored every shout, every attempt to break in to her defence, and she turned around, sprinting to Adrien. But she knew it wouldn't be easy. Especially since the bridge was malfunctioning, possibly to do with the fact that Adrien was within it, doing his best to contain his power as he fought his father. She still sprinted, using her magic to gain momentum as she found herself at the entrance of the bridge.

She was suddenly pushed back.

Rather than complaining about it, she just forged forward furiously, working against the Fates who were trying to push her back again and again, but they should have known from day one.

"Keeping me away from him will only make me more determined."

She was no longer going to cry in distress as people tried to separate them. She was no longer going to let anyone or anything come between them, even if she had to destroy everything in the process. It was what Adrien would have done if it was her instead, it was what he had done. And although she didn't condone how some things ended up, She understood his feelings.

They were both tired of the constant walls they had to break through to get to each other.

So she pushed through the forces of destiny which tried to deny her, because no matter what, she would get to Adrien. Finally she was able to get through the first of many barriers she knew she would have to encounter on this bridge.

Almost immediately, she was thrusted into her next challenge, trying to go through the next part of the bridge which was completely broken, creating a huge gaping hole leading into the now thrashing, dangerous waters of the Celestial River angrily brewing down below. She knew that even she, who had almost become a deity was not safe from the harm the river could caused when disturbed like that.

It was lucky that she had the ability to jump far places, or she was doomed.

She realised halfway up her jump that because of the way the wind flowed- or maybe it was just the annoying fates who were determined to mess her plans up- that meant that it was practically impossible for her to go forward without an anchor.

Without even thinking, she conjured something she could wrap around the part of the bridge she knew was secure, funnily enough it was a toy which she hadn't played with since she was a child. But she remembered just how much time she had spent, using it to swing around places without her parents worrying she was going to fall as they had ensured it's safety when making it. It wasn't something she had thought about for a long time, but perhaps recently seeing her parents again, the memory had randomly been brought back to the forefront of her mind, waiting to be used.

She had created a replica of the yoyo her parents had gifted her when she was a child, only she knew this yoyo was much sturdier, and even though the string was as thin as a strand of hair, it was strong enough to withstand a blow from a sword. It was made from her raw magic after all.

She threw the end of the yoyo, made of ruby and and black jade embedded into it- much like the one she had when she was young- and she used her magic to direct it to the bridge, aware that she was in the process of falling into the threatening pit of water below her.

It caught onto the bridge and she commanded the string to retract into the yoyo, causing it to drag her across the open area between the broken parts of the bridge against the wind (or the Fates), before finally bringing her to the other side of the bridge.

She looked at the yoyo for a few seconds, realising how handy it could come in with situations like this, and how freeing it was to swing across from one place to another, but she had no time to admire it.

She quickly moved her attention to going through the bridge, going through several different obstacles the Fates tried to harm her with, but every time she succeeded in surpassing their goal for her to not pass through.

She couldn't help but scoff at the next challenge and the fact that the bridge was practically on fire.

Did the Fates think fire would phase her? The Princess of the Sun?

She was used to extreme temperatures like this, more than she had become used to the comforting cold which was only found in Luneith, which she wanted to embrace her every night and day for the rest of her life.

She walked straight through, expecting the flames to surge forward and claim her skin, but the flames barely licked her skin and she was surprised to see that they had parted for her. She could almost hear their whispers, similar to the baby stars she met when she died, urging her to go forward, to get to him before it was too late.

There were forces other than the Fates who were fighting against them like she was, who wanted to help her.

"Thank you," she bowed her head in respect, wondering why these flames, which started to look less like flames and more like the little glittering balls of light she had grown slightly attached to, were helping her.

She passed through this supposed obstacle with ease.

And now she was at the point she needed to be. She could sense he was close, close enough for her to stop and bring out the object Alix had given her. She threw the object in the air, making sure to press the button on it before she did, and watched as it fund the middle of the area she wanted it to be, before it exploded. The shards of the explosion began to move and expand on its own until it formed something akin to a shield, though the more appropriate word would be a bubble.

It was a time bubble. So everything she dealt with inside would happen faster than the outside world, giving her enough time to finish this fight with Hawkmoth once and for all, without the possibility of interference from anyone else.

There was only one more obstacle she needed to deal with now, and it wasn't the Fates who had made it. It wasn't something they could. Rather it was something even they wanted to get rid of. She didn't know when they had arrived, but she knew they had to go. There were too many akumas surrounding Adrien. It looked like Hawkmoth's plan to control Adrien hadn't worked too well so he had brought reinforcements.

But there were too many and too little time to deal with them one by one.

She looked down at the yoyo she was carrying, which had helped her again with a few more of the obstacles she had to overcome getting through the bridge. Then se looked at the large akumas, which soon would engulf Adrien into a horrendous ball of evil.

Taking a deep breath, she hoped it would work.

She flung the yoyo towards the mass of butterflies, distributing her power through the string and letting her new weapon wrap around the akumas. Every time any of the akumas touched a part of the yoyo, it became stuck to it like moths trapped in a spider's web. The line kept on extending, grabbing onto more and more of the hundreds of butterflies surrounding him, and she could see the small hint of green he had placed around himself, but with every attack and his father still harassing his mind, it was starting to become weaker.

"I'm coming love. I'm almost there."

There were only a few left, and she swiftly grabbed them with her yoyo until the very last one was caught.

She retracted the yoyo, this time wanting it to go to her, rather than it go to him and as it retracted, the butterflies became trapped by it's two sides. But they didn't become crushed or die as one would expect seeing such a cruel image. Instead, as they entered the yoyo, magic engulfed them and they were quickly purified, flying out on the other side and becoming as white and pure as Luneith's moon.

As if they were unaware of the several barriers around them, the butterflies flew off without a care for the battle occurring beneath them.

Finally, she could step forward, and take another step and another towards him.

She could finally see him again, who was crouched in the middle of the bridge, the shield still surrounding him, though visibly weaker than just minutes before. His face was paler than she had ever seen and he was clutching his head, trying to endure... the pain, the shock, the sorrow, the anger, the destruction. And that was the worst part, him having to endure the very power which made him, well, him. Him having to force himself to stop the power which had been his very soul because of his father. It was anguish for him.

When she had done it through the soul bond, he had told her a lot of how he had felt relieved at times when he could stop using it, that when he couldn't feel it, he didn't have to carry the burden of using it. But this was different. Because he could feel the power surge through his body, aching to burst out. But like she had done so once, he had to keep it under lock and key until he found the opportune moment to use it and end his father for good.

But how could he?

All she cared about was getting to him, soothing him, helping him rid of his father, until finally they could have peace. But how could they do that?

She took another some more steps forward, until she was right on front of his shield and she laid a hand on it. The magic recognised her, that she wasn't a threat, that she was his soulmate. In an instant it dissolved and she moved so close, yet still so far from him. He hadn't noticed her presence over his own whimpers and suffering breaths.

"Adrien," she softly spoke, stopping on front of him and crouching to the height he was, "I'm here."

He opened his eyes and as if for the first time, her tender blue eyes met his electrifying green ones.

............

I am really bad at battles so I tend to just gloss over the details. Sorry for anyone who is disappointed about that. Though in my notes there wasn't really much about the actual battlefield itself, just that it was focusing on Marinette getting to Adrien somehow, though before this I hadn't really specified how. I wasn't even going to add the yoyo but it became a good prop for what I wanted to write.

I hope this chapter wasn't boring. I tried to make it as interesting as I could before the important things happen but I am not sure if I delivered.

AAAAHH we're almost at the end.

See you soon lovelies <3
