Part II: Chapter 1
Hello. I'm back. I finished my exams so I'm going to try spend a lot of time writing.
I started watching the donghua i.e Chinese anime for Love between fairy and devil and it is so different to the drama. There's this thing that happens to her body (i'm not gonna say cuz spoilers) and my jaw just dropped. It was kind of funny though. The whole thing is just really funny. I definitely recommend it.
Anyways, welcome to part 2.
............
When Marinette opened her eyes, it took her a while to recollect her thoughts and realise that the gold and emerald ceiling, adorned with the most wonderful of images and delicate runes- depicting a story of a ladybug who met a cat- was part of a room she had never been in before.
And she panicked.
She quickly shot up into a sitting position and winced at the stinging sensation littered all across the top half of her body and almost had to lay back down again. She instead grabbed the very soft and very warm covers that had been on her and threw them off of her, immediately shivering as air, cooler than she was used to, hit her at full force. She moved her legs to go over the edge of the large bed she was on, but before she could even reach the edge, a hand caught her and pulled her back down causing her to yelp and fall straight into a very sturdy chest.
"Ow," she murmured as she lifted her head up and rubbed her forehead.
"Where are you going?" his deep voice vibrated off of his chest and it was clear that he had just woken up.
"I-uh-" she couldn't think of anything to say as images of death and destruction went through her head. She didn't even move as everything that had transpired beforehand flooded into her memory and she was reminded of the hurt and the heartache and the betrayal and the pain, "It's all my fault!"
A hand came up to her head and patted her, sort of awkwardly, "You can't blame yourself for everything. There are multiple people at fault here, myself included."
She didn't expect him to admit it and so she looked up at him, her eyes already glossed with tears just from everything that came back from her, "Why couldn't I just be like any normal fairy who was afraid of you? Why did I have to be the one to be sucked into that prison and help you escape? How did I not even know it was you? I'm so-ugh"
His other hand had come up to squeeze her cheeks to stop her from talking, which caused her face to be pressed into a pout, "Do you really want to be afraid of me, bug?"
Truthfully, "No," she sniffled, once he released her face.
He sighed and closed his eyes trying to look into exactly what she was feeling, bringing her head to lay on his chest once he was able to grasp onto her tender emotions, and she let him, "I know you want to cry, so go ahead. I can show you around later."
She let herself do exactly that, silently letting the tears fall down onto his likely expensive clothing- but definitely more casual than any other clothing she had seen him in-and occasionally letting out more sniffles and whimpers which were muffled by his chest.
She still couldn't believe how easy it was for people to switch their opinion on someone. How the second they did one thing wrong in the eyes of others, they were ostracised by everyone. They didn't even know the whole story. They just assumed the worst- and she knew, she knew that for some, including Luka, Adrien was the worst they had seen or heard of. He had never acted to Luka how he had towards her. They had been enemies for over 70,000 years. They had hated each other, though she believed that Luka hated Adrien more- Adrien really only seemed to find him as more of a nuisance (that was until he had learned that she had been hurt by him and his hatred for the snake increased by tenfold). She understood to some degree, she knew why Luka had felt so betrayed. But she did not understand why he looked at her with such... she didn't even want to recall the look on his face when he had looked at her those last times, but she couldn't get it out of her head.
She cried.
And she thought about how she had left her friends alone. She thought about how she had possibly ruined their budding careers as immortals and she wondered if they would be punished for being associated with her. She felt grateful that out of everyone that knew her, that they were the ones who still believed in her. And she felt an intense sorrow for not being able to bring them with her, knowing that if she did, they could never go back to the life that they had so obviously been in love with. They would be better without her, she reasoned.
And she cried.
For the guards who were killed because of her because even when the newly vindictive side of her told her that they deserved it, she still mourned for them, she still felt incredibly guilty. Especially towards the families they had. Because even though death was a normal occurrence- she always heard about someone or the other who had passed- and fairies had become very adept about going on with their daily lives quite easily- it still hurt.
The absence of someone always struck more than the initial lighting that hit it.
She cried for those who were caught up in the action, innocent fairies and creatures who were just trying to get away from the whole disaster. The ones who got injured and/or had died as well. Many of those people had trusted her enough to allow her to heal them and prescribe them with medicine that would help them. Now they would have to find someone new to trust, someone who wouldn't betray them and who knew all of the methods she did- and it would be hard to when Marinette had created a lot of methods herself or adapted them from her master's own designs. She just hoped people wouldn't destroy her notes on those methods and instead use them.
Master Fu was not even there to help. And how she missed her master, now more than ever, for if he were here, he would be able to give her advice on what she should do now. What could she do now?
She cried for herself. For the situation she had gotten herself into. For being so naïve. For letting herself trust people so easily only for them to stab her in the back with their long, impressive sword. She wondered why every time she achieved something so great, so worthy of being an admirable fairy, that fate would spit venom right into her face and remind her of how she was born unlucky.
She even cried for the man who was holding her, a demon feared by the masses but even from just the stories she had read, she knew that he had gone through much more than Soleria even acknowledged. They had killed many of his subjects, including innocents who had no business to even be part of a war, only doing their best to survive. They had slaughtered his parents in cold blood and had called him evil and dirty blooded for being the son of a fairy who had wedded a demon. So he had become what they had branded him and the war had started. But they didn't know who Adrien really was. Not like she did. They didn't know how he struggled to show his emotions yet even then, he did his hardest to show he cared for her, to show he trusted her. They didn't know why she was able to trust him. Why she wasn't scared of him. They hadn't witnessed who he was when he wasn't actively being the God of Destruction.
They didn't know Adrien.
She cried until she fell asleep again, soothed by the soft rises and falls of his breathing and lulled to the point of exhaustion, where she finally closed her eyes.
............
When she opened her eyes again she felt a wave of disappointment that he had left her to sleep on her own. Somewhat ironically, the bed felt colder without his presence.
Her disappointment left when she heard his voice and turned her head to find him standing at the doorway, speaking in hushed tones to someone she couldn't quite see. She tried to be as quiet as she could when she sat up, and shuffled herself so her back was supported by the headboard of the bed, though she quickly became annoyed at the outlandish indents and crevices and the overall decoration on it and moved one of the large, sturdy pillows to soften and smooth out the support.
All of the jumbling, however, had caught his attention so, when she looked back at him after being satisfied enough by the placement of the pillow, she suddenly felt slightly bashful when she found him staring at her. Whoever he was talking to had left- probably because he ordered them to- and he had closed the door behind him but instead of heading towards her, he switched his path to a table which Marinette realised was now full of mounds of food. Unconsciously, she wet her lips and her stomach grumbled just at the thought of biting into the delicacies that were putting her in a trance like state.
"Well," her eyes slowly drifted away from the table and onto him, who was gesturing to the dishes on front of him, "Come and eat. You need to replenish your energy."
She nodded, still in a trance, and got out of the bed, trudging to the table as fast as she could as her stomach grumbled at the enrapturing smells and the alluring presentation of each dish which lay on the table.
When she finally sat down, she frowned, "Why is there only one plate?" she asked.
"I've already eaten with my brother and my general."
For the first time in a while, she perked up like she would have before lot's of things in her life went downhill, "You mean the Dragon General? I've heard about your General. Dragons are amazing creatures. I've met a few and some of them are lovely. What is your General like? "
"Kagami- that's her name," and he caught the small frown that she quickly covered up with an attentive smile once she realised that Kagami was a woman, "She is a great warrior who knows how to lead soldiers into battle well and her fighting is impeccable. Her dragon form is the most spectacular and she is older than I. If there is one person who has the respect of the God of Destruction, it is Kagami."
"She sounds kind of scary," Marinette said as she reached out for roasted lamb piece. When she bit into it, she couldn't help but sigh in bliss as she tasted the sweetness of the honey sauce that it had been drizzled in, mixed with the spices it had likely been infused in for hours on end. She swore she could even taste a hint of fresh, sweet grass, immediately making her hungry stomach yearn for more.
He smirked, "Oh she is. But I rarely have to deal with that since I am her commander. She respects me as well. Felix- my brother- on the other hand, I bet he has seen it more than even I have."
"Why?" she chewed on her lamb, savouring the taste even though there was much more in front of her.
"Somehow, they are together. When I first came back here, it shocked me to the core to see them like that. Out of everything I expected coming out of that prison, it was never those two."
"I'd love to see you being shell shocked," she giggled as she decided to pick another piece of food out, this time a moon shaped bite sized bits which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. When she bit into it, she realised it was a simple mix of potatoes, a type of meat (most likely chicken) and eggs as well as just a pinch of spices but it was a nice way to refresh her taste buds in order to eat more. Before she got something else though, she looked at him, "Speaking of, how did we get here? I can't remember much after you teleported us out."
He looked at her, before raising his wrist and revealing that there was a green light there, not the red that she had expected.
............
It was a struggle, getting her to the other side of the bridge. As soon as they had teleported, she had once again dropped down into his arms and she was lucky that even without his powers, he had enough strength to be able to carry her all the way to the border of his home realm. All of his training wasn't just for nothing.
There was a system to entering Luneith via the Celestial lands which most people couldn't bypass without extensive security. However, he was the Lune Supreme and had special privileges so even with a fairy in his arms, he was able to get through to the other side of the lands quite easily. The magic favoured him, it seemed, because no matter which way he went, they allowed him to cross without failure (why that was? He did not care to know). This time the magic seemed even more eager to help them through, from the way it twinkled and giggled at the image he brought to them. At times like this, he preferred to just be thankful for it's sentience and the sort of unsettling fact that they liked him.
The magic teleported him right to the edge of the bridge, laying them gently on the lands that were now technically part of Luneith.
Once he was on the other side of the bridge, he sat down, feeling slightly exhausted from having to carry the fairy across the long half of the length. She lay in his arms across his lap, her face looking uncomfortable whether it was due to her injuries or because of whatever she was dreaming of. Likely, both.
If he had his powers right now, he could have been able to help calm her instantly. But he couldn't right now. So he did the next best thing, something only his mother and his godmother was ever allowed to do for him. After some pauses of hesitation, he laid his hand on her hair and stroked it like he would to a cat, and it surprisingly worked. The thought that he should do this more crossed his mind but he shook his head of that thought.
He still kept his hand on her head, sometimes using his fingers to lightly massage her scalp, but she seemed content with the back and forth gesture of his hand.
He only stopped when he heard a roar loud enough to scare a full sized mammoth (which unlike in the mortal realm, did still exist) and he glared at the one who made so much noise. The culprit- Kagami- was looking at him, or actually Marinette in his arms with wide eyes, obviously shocked that the Lune Supreme, God of Destruction, the Devil and nightmare of all fairies and Solerians, was clearly holding onto a fairy like he didn't want to murder them. She cowered slightly when he gave her a scowl for being so loud but when he looked down, he sighed in relief as Marinette seemed to be in a deep sleep at this point and it seemed that nothing, not even thunder, could wake her.
He grunted as he heaved himself and Marinette up together, ignoring the stupefied expression on his General's face, and spoke gruffly, "I need you to take us somewhere."
She complied without fail as he gave directions to where he wanted to go- he knew that once she knew where they were heading to, she would try to stop them- and soon he was getting off of her dragon form and disregarding her protests as she realised where they were. Even if she protested, she couldn't undermine his order, especially when he kept on telling her it was important.
Her protests grew when he asked her to leave them.
"Sire- I can't lea-"
"Leave," he used his commanding voice, letting her know that he wouldn't take any type of no for an answer. Eventually, she left.
They were at a rather convenient place, dubbed by his people as Lightning Meadow. Essentially, it was exactly what it was named. There was a field of flowers on a high point of a mountain. But what was unique about these flowers is that they had some metallic elements in them which made them look much like the halls made of gold which had many flowers depicted on them. Only these flowers were more than just gold.
Various scientists of Luneith tried to determine what caused this phenomenon, something that occurred only in places like this but not many could get close enough without getting hurt. Why? Because these flowers were one of the biggest attractors of lightning in Luneith. And being in the middle of this meadow was just asking for danger.
He was not going to be reckless and go into the meadow, however. They had learned early on that they only needed to be within a certain distance of lightning for the seal to actually be unlocked.
He instead took them to a nearby tree and propped Marinette up against it. Once he was sure she was going to stay upright- it took a few tries- he took the chance to stretch, feeling quite tired from the whole day. Normally, even when he was tired, he had never felt the exhaustion hit him like a marble brick in the face- he had a routine that he had followed immaculately for years on end- but now, especially without his powers to fend it off, the tiring feeling was coming to him in quick succession. Everything he had done today had just felt draining.
He couldn't wait to get his powers back.
But when he sat down in front of her, he couldn't help but hesitate in doing what was needed to get his power back.
He shook her a few times, trying to wake her up as, ideally, he wanted to inform her of what he was going to do before he did it. But she wouldn't budge. Still he kept on trying, even poking her cheek which caused her to stir a bit, but ultimately she remained asleep. He was beginning to think that maybe she just liked to sleep a lot since she had the habit of doing so in even the toughest of situations. (He learned later that yes, it really was what he thought- she had really gained such a habit in this life!) She wouldn't even wake up to the thunder that accompanied the bright strikes of lightning in the background. Considering what she had been through, how seeing the lightning could possibly upset her, half of him didn't want her to wake up.
He made the decision then and there to just get it over and done with.
He used his hand to hold her by the chin and move her face into a more accessible position, keeping it steady so it wouldn't drop back down as she was still resting. He leaned in and took a deep breath but, all of a sudden, it felt like- what was the expression again?- like there were butterflies in his stomach. He tried to do some more breathing in order to squash down whatever was happening (nerves) and he continued to lean in. But just as her face was right on front of him, so close, he couldn't help but bite his lip and sigh.
He didn't know why he was feeling so nervous. He had kissed her before, and not just after she had been reborn. When she was Ladybug, they had kissed like any couple who had to hide their relationship behind dark caves and waterfalls and in those times he had felt blissful, even if after, his father would spoil his mood once he realised that any progression his son made in controlling his emotions had been neglected once again.
Perhaps it was because he couldn't tell if she liked him as more than just a friend who she somehow knew would protect her. Even with their bond, her emotions confused him to no end. Maybe it was because, even knowing that she was his Ladybug- and he really should have recognised her features sooner- Marinette was something new. Something he didn't quite understand (but he desperately wanted to). Or maybe it was a combination of both- it was a matter of old feelings resurfacing and new ones arising.
He had forgotten what it felt like to realise he liked someone. It was more complicated when it was the same person he had liked before. But once he realised right in that moment, staring at her freckled, rosy face, the nervousness just intensified.
People always wondered and some even had the audacity to ask him whether or not he actually had emotions. The answer, he thought as he took in every feature of her and remembered more and more of the memories of seeing the same face up close long ago, was that yes, he did. He- and he knew this more than anyone else- just didn't know how to show it well to anyone but her. It was always her.
"Just get on with it," he whispered to himself, "It's only for seven seconds."
And finally, he had taken a leap of courage and pressed his lips onto hers, counting down the seconds until he had to take them off.
1...2...3...4...5...6...7... he didn't press on for further.
He removed his lips and whispered, now to her, saying something he never would have told anyone else, "I hope you will forgive me for doing this."
He looked down at his wrist, even though he could feel his power running through each and every blood cell in his body, and sighed in relief as the green light was back.
He teleported them straight into his room, made sure she was comfortable in his cold room, and soon, he too was asleep.
............
It's not like he mentioned every single thing that happened- he wouldn't tell her of how he had decided to help her feel a bit more comfortable as she slept, and he would neither tell her how he felt nervous for the first time in years about kissing her, even when they had done it before. Luckily, she understood why he kissed her and she didn't seem too mad at it. Perhaps she just expected that it would happen sooner or later and she couldn't do much about it.
Marinette, meanwhile, was just thankful that he didn't hide the truth of what had happened- even if she could have taken the guess herself. And she thought that, considering the circumstances, he was rather respectful in the way he went about it. He had tried to wake her up, but she knew herself that she was a deep sleeper, and barely anything could nudge her awake.
"Wow I really slept through all of that?"
"Pretty much."
"I do have a question though," she waited for him to give her a gesture to continue, which he did, "Why did you sleep on the same bed as me? Surely you could have gone to another room and slept there."
"Actually," he looked amused, "Once I had placed you on the bed, I was going to leave to go sort out a few things but you wouldn't let me out of your grip."
He didn't tell her that, in all honesty, he could have removed himself from her grip quite easily and he did so a few times, but in her sleep she kept on whining when he would try to remove his hand until he decided to just do as she wanted and sleep as well. His powers may have been back, but his exhaustion did not leave much to his dismay.
She felt slightly embarrassed that she acted like that unconsciously, and the light red flush on her face showed that.
She coughed, trying to hide her discomposure, "I-uh- I forgive you by the way. For- uh- kissing me. I... I understand why and I can't fault you for that," and she failed in hiding it because the talk of kissing had just made her more clumsy in her words and overall, rather demure.
She took to avoiding his eyes and went to grab another moon shaped snack hastily, causing it to sort of mush in her fingers and create even more of a mess. He didn't say anything, just grabbed a cloth that had been sitting at the end of the table- which she had put there because she did not want to ruin it (it looked expensive!)- and used it to wipe her hands of the food before getting a clean corner to wipe the sauce that had ended up around her mouth as he was telling her what had happened.
"Have you always been this messy?" He wondered out loud and even though she didn't realise the underlying extent of his question, she gave him a small pout.
"I call it organised chaos," she lied even though she knew that he was already aware of how messy she was, having been in her house a few times already, "Do you always have a plan for everything?" she mocked.
He gave her a small smile before replying seriously, "I am Lune Supreme. I must be prepared for all things that my people may have to deal with. So anything that inconveniences that must be dealt with."
It wasn't much but it really gave her an insight into how Adrien was as Lune Supreme. From when she had known him, she had only really known Adrien and then, briefly, Destruction. And so she was curious about what he was like actually leading his people. The fact that even though she hadn't necessarily ask him about his duties, yet he made point to stress it's importance in his life, already said a lot and she wanted to know more.
She realised once again that what Soleria thought they knew about him wasn't even scratching the surface of who Adrien actually was.
Maybe, one day, she could change that.
............
I know what you are going to say- "Persia, lightning isn't actually attracted to metal that's just a myth."
Yeah well, fantasy can turn any myth into reality.
Anyways, the fact that they have kissed what like... 4 times now (if you can't remember, they do have one offscreen kiss (which technically was actually more than one since they had to test it out a few times) that has been mentioned- I may do an extra chapter on this after I'm finished with writing the main parts of the story), and have even slept in the same bed together and are still not actually together!!! I'm actually torturing myself writing this. Heads up guys- no they won't get together in the next 3 chapters (I am not spoiling how many chapters it actually is mwahahaahaha).
Btw, there is such a huge hint in this chapter to a part of the story I've planned- You can guess what but I won't actually say anything. You must read on to find out. Update- I'm editing and I've literally forgotten where the hint is and what it's for lol. Another update. I remembered.
Also I hope you're ready for the next chap because I think it's the longest one yet.
See you soon loves <3
