Part I: Chapter 2
It's a tiny bit later than I wanted to post because I was writing a one-shot and lost track of time.
...........
She screamed as she felt herself being pulled down the abyss in the centre of the prison. It felt like eternity as she fell through but somehow she knew it was only a second. Still her screams grew longer and would not stop until her mouth began to run dry and her voice became hoarse. She tried to catch her breath but as she was pulled towards wherever in hell she was falling towards, it was like forces were working against her and sucking all of the air out of her. Her vision became darker and darker, but this time it wasn't her powers that caused it.
The darkness consumed her in an unsettling way which made her think, 'This is it. I'm dying.'
She closed her eyes- as her vision was shrouded anyways- and she braced for impact.
"Goodbye world," she whispered.
And that was when the light appeared.
That was when she saw him.
A prisoner. Clad in just a black robe, his blond-almost white hair grown way past his torso, as if he had been stuck here for millennia. His robe was covered in ornate embroidered patterns, a surprisingly neon green contrasting to the black cloth. It was shocking how clean he looked. She assumed he was a prisoner from the way he seemed to be held back by forces she was uncertain of. He seemed to be stuck there. To most it would be unnoticeable but to her, she could see the threatening red light- and she realised it was the only light in this place, this void- that surrounded him, keeping him locked out of the world. The same world she had just fallen out of.
He was as stiff as a board and from where her vision honed in, she could see a resigned look on his face. A look that meant he had lost hope. She remembered seeing the same look in her Master, Old Fu. It was the last thing she remembered of him. The last she had ever seen of him.
But she was moving closer, despite her mind protesting. Despite her head screaming 'DANGER!'
She couldn't even scream anymore.
And her body inched closer, even when she tried to force it away. The attraction that pulled her in would not stop.
Her mind thought danger but her heart felt content.
She didn't know how long it took to actually reach the light, a few hours. A few seconds. But when she did, it didn't stop her from reaching him. In fact it beckoned her. Whispered to her in a voice she felt herself recognise, "Yet where?" She questioned.
"Come in."
The light welcomed her like an old friend and her mind stopped thinking that it posed a threat to her. How could it when it engulfed her like a warm blanket on a particularly cold day?
To her, it felt right.
Even though there was lighting and rain (and where in hell was that coming from?) all around her, the light protected her from everything. She felt one last force shove her in the direction of the unknown man- who she was pretty sure was a demon or a devil or any being from Luneith of some sort- and before she knew it, her body had pushed her face too far and her lips were on his.
Her shocked blue eyes met electrifying green ones, just as surprised as she was.
The light around them shattered, like a broken mirror.
At that moment, two souls were forged into one.
...........
The next time she opened her eyes, she was lying on the ground staring at those eyes again.
Green eyes that were glaring at her so fiercely that she feared that it would be the end of her.
"What did you do?" He snarled.
"I- I don't know what you are talking about."
He shoved his left arm in front of her face, allowing his sleeve to fall and reveal a red string of light wrapped around his wrist. It was the same comforting red that had engulfed her just moments before.
In all honesty, she didn't know how long ago that was, how long she had been unconscious for. It could have been longer than a few moments. It could have been just a few seconds. Time was but a mirage in whatever this prison or this entirely new (yet so old) realm was.
"Wh-what is that. Who are you?"
"Because of you," his voice was low but it made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. He leaned in closer to her face, "My powers are still restricted. And that means neither of us can get out of here. So tell me, little fairy. What. Did. You. Do?"
She breathed in deeply and tried to scoot back a bit, even with the vast space surrounding her, she found it hard to, "I'm telling you right now. All I did was try to save Lord Luka. But I was too late to save myself so now I'm stuck in here with you. Believe me when I say that I hate this as much as you clearly do. I- I didn't do anything."
"I don't care if you were trying to save that pathetic fool. Give me my powers back!" He shouted, causing her to wince- and try to ignore his quip about the God of war by trying to focus on the loud noise which echoed into nothing.
Which reminded her. Where was she exactly?
She looked around to find that they had both landed on dry earth, which seemed to go on and on in every direction she turned her head towards. "Well, at least there was a bit more light now," though she wondered how, as she looked upwards to where there were stars glimmering in the distance, just out of her reach. She took a moment to appreciate the beauty of it all.
It was unlike anything she'd ever seen.
The sky was in various shades of colour that Marinette had never seen all together above her own head before. They ranged from dark blues and lovely shades of lilac, to the more warmer tones of red and yellows and everything in between, all mixed together in a never ending swirl of magic around them. On one side, there was a series of lighting strikes directed to a small patch of land. But there was no thunder to accompany it. On another side there seemed to be snowfall and the wind picked up and caused the water that came from the depths of nowhere to wave and thrash violently in all directions. On another side, cherry blossom petals were swirling around, its origins could not be seen. Trees and flowers of all kinds seemed to bloom from even the driest of soil. They were everywhere. She still couldn't quite place where the cherry blossoms came from.
But she could only be mesmerised by the enchanting picture that was painted around her.
Only one thing seemed out of place. Because there was not a mammal, nor a bird, neither an insect in sight.
Only them.
"Are you listening? I need my powers back."
Her attention was dragged back to the devilish entity on front of her, "Maybe you should listen to me," her tone become exasperated and she pointed a finger at him, despite being told by various people that it was a rude gesture, "When I say that I don't know how to get them back!"
She watched as the man on front of her paced back and forth, his long hair- which was surprisingly healthy-looking for someone she assumed was a prisoner (though this certainly looked like no prison)- swinging behind him as he continued to move.
"You kissed me!" he stopped moving and turned to point accusingly at her, "That's the last thing I remember before I woke up. And then we ended up here."
"I didn't mean to! There was this force that pushed me into you," she may have sounded like a whining toddler in that moment but it didn't matter. She needed to defend herself somehow.
"And you couldn't use your magic to stop it?"
"I-"
But he didn't let her speak, "Oh wait. Of course not. Even from where I'm standing I can tell how weak you are, little fairy."
She stood up quickly, bunching her now muddied dress (weren't they just on dry land a second ago?) into her arms and she stomped to where he was standing a few feet away from her. Once she reached him, she dropped her dress and did nothing but seethe silently for a few seconds.
He could have sworn there was actually smoke coming out of her nose and her ears and it honestly amused him. Probably more than it should have. He couldn't help it when his only form of entertainment was either himself or the quips she practically forced him to endure at times.
The little fairy's face was morphed into one of righteous fury and he stood there watching, only his eyebrow raised as the rest of his face remained impassive. Like he'd let her know she managed, unlike many others (who actually tried) before her, to make him feel something other than fury and anything along those lines. His father had taught him better than to laugh at foolish things.
The next moment found him doubled over and grasping for feeling in the leg she just kicked as he struggled not to groan in agony from the sheer strength she displayed.
"Just try and call me weak again. And next time it won't be your leg."
He lifted his head up to glare at her and she just gave him a smug smirk as she crossed her hands over her chest. She ignored the ghost of a pinch in her own leg as she looked triumphantly at him, her long hair (she was proud to say that she had been growing it out and it had already reached her waist) waving nicely behind her as she moved her head to the side in a victorious manner.
"Just tell me," he grunted a bit as he lifted himself off of the ground. At his next words he grimaced a little, "When we kissed, did you see anything unusual."
"I didn't even know what was happening," her hands flailed around in an unusual pattern that made him feel slightly dizzy to follow, "Why would I notice if there was anything weirder than a really bright red light with lightning from supposedly nowhere holding a random demon I know nothing about? I mean, I don't even know your name," she replied sarcastically.
"I am not a ran- It's not like I know your-" he started, his face in that everlasting scowl he seemed to have, but he paused as his eyes flicked to behind her and fixated on something that she couldn't see as her back was turned to it.
All of a sudden he grabbed her hand and Marinette gasped at the electrifying feeling his surprisingly strong hold on her had.
"What are you-" She started to ask as she was forced to turn around in the direction of whatever the demon was looking at before, when her eyes were drawn to the same thing as well.
The lightning.
"What? Is he trying to get us killed? Why are we headed to-oh."
Oh.
"What-no. I am not kissing you again! And I am especially not going to risk my life in that freak storm!" She protested.
At that, he stopped, his hand still holding her own in a firm grasp, "Do you want to stay in this prison with me forever than, little fairy?" He leaned down (he was very tall ok!) so his face was but an inch away from hers, "Would you like that Solerian? Having to spend the rest of eternity stuck in here with me. A demon from Luneith cast away here, in a prison so different from a normal prisoner's. Now," he pretended to look thoughtful but there was a malicious glint in his eye, "I wonder why that is? I've been quite bored in here so I think it would be fun having someone to play with. Tell me little fairy. You would like that wouldn't you? Being here with me forever. Because that's what you want right? What you desire the most right now. To be immortal just like all of your little friends. You want to feel like you belong somewhere. Well, you will fit right in. So here's your cha-"
She cut him off with a slap on his face- and at the same time she felt like something had stung her own cheek but she thought nothing much of it as she was too furious to think- and glared at him, "You! How do you know that? How can you say that?"
His eyebrow quirked up, despite the slight pain he was experiencing on his cheek, "I'm a demon," as if that explained everything, "You are so easy to read little fairy. And if you hit me again I'll-"
"You'll what?" She challenged, "Hit me back? Kill me?" Her voice seemed so familiar to him in that moment, the tone so courageous, so confident. But he brushed it off.
Instead, he cackled like she imagined a villain in those novels she liked to read in her free time (which she had a lot of) did but it was not as malevolent as she expected, "You're a feisty one little fairy. I'll give you that. Just know that if I had my powers, you wouldn't have even had the chance to hit me let alone actually cause me a semblance of pain."
There was a silence between them after that as she contemplated what had just happened. She knew that he was watching her curiously, probably wondering what she would do next.
She inwardly smirked at the gaping face, much like a fish, he made when she said her next words, "It's Marinette."
"What?"
"My name. It's Marinette. Stop calling me little fairy."
And with that, she grabbed his hand and dragged him in the direction of the lighting, silently praying to the deities that she wouldn't die for being so reckless.
Meanwhile, he couldn't help but wonder why her name sounded so sweet to his ears. He wondered why she was even so willing to help him out. Most of all, he wondered who this girl, this Marinette really was.
There was something about her life force which was really irking him.
..............
A little bit of Marinette acting dramatic at the beginning. I couldn't resist. Just saying, Adrien I love you, but you deserve it.
Also I did say in my A/n that there will be a lot of mentions of violence but I will reiterate what I said before in saying that if you are uncomfortable with any sort of fighting, injury, death etc. whilst I'll try not to give too much of a graphic description, If it does bother you it may be reasonable to click off now.
The lightning thing is something that happens in Love Between Fairy and Devil and, at first, I wasn't going to use it, but as I was planning, I thought that a few things could work with it. Also, yes they did kiss after this but you wont see it hahahaahhahahaha.
See you lovelies.
