Chapter 1

(A/N) Forgive me if there are any errors. I'm not a grammar person, but I try my best. Wishing y'all the best!

-Devin-

I awoke to birds chirping and sunlight painting patterns on my bedroom walls, once I realized what day it was, I quickly jumped out of bed. I pulled on jeans and a red sweatshirt and sprinted down the stairs.

"Mornin' Dev—What's the rush?" My dad questioned. I had no time for his cross-examination, so I just kept running. I threw the door open and darted down the driveway. Mr. Barker, the mailman, was just up the street from our house, my anxiety wouldn't let me wait another moment so scampered up the street and stopped in front of him.

"H-Hey do y-you" I panted

"Right here," He smiled handing me a letter. "Good luck." I looked down at the flimsy envelope and my heart skipped a beat.

"T-Thank you," I called to him as I eagerly walked back to my house, catching my breath. I went back through the still-open garage door. I shuffled over to the kitchen table; my eyes fixed on the paper. What if I'm rejected? My hands began to sweat, and my heart pounded. I've wanted to get into this realm ever since I found my love for building; this was the moment of truth. I used the butter knife sitting on the table to slice open the envelope. I pulled the paper out of the casing and started reading:

Dear Mr. Mullis

The Builders Council in P386 is delighted to inform you that you have been admitted into our realm. Please accept my personal congratulations on your achievement. We would like to meet with you B.U.D. building downtown on November 26, 2020, at 10:30am. We will hope to see you there.

A large smile was plastered onto my face. I made it!

"I MADE IT!" I yelled jumping up from my chair.

"Yay!" My mom joined.

"Yes! I knew you would!" My dad congratulated me, pulling me in for a bear hug. "What else did it say?"

"They wanted to talk to be at the B.U.D. building in downtown!" I squealed.

"When?" Mom asked.

"The 26, at 10:30. We could probably have lunch there too!"

"This is so exciting! When I was a boy, I went to the B.U.D. building when I got accepted into my first realm."

"I'm going to call up the family!" Mom chirped, racing to the phone

I got out of my beat-up Honda Civic in the B.U.D. parking lot as I fixed my red button-down dress shirt. I twirled the car keys on my finger, caught them, and shoved them deep into my pocket and opened the tower's door. I followed the directions they gave me, my stomach doing flips inside of me.

"Fourth floor," I murmured to myself, "second door to the right." I stopped right in front of the meeting room door. My heart was pounding, my palms were sweaty, and I felt my muscles tense up. Please. Not here. Not now. I can't be having this! Stop! I stood outside the meeting room, boiling in my own panic. Why am I nervous? There's nothing to be nervous about? Stop! I commanded to no avail. I tried to stay as quiet as possible, but hyperventilation isn't known to be quiet.

I waited in the hallway until I was sufficiently calm, then I opened the door and strolled in as nothing had just happened.

"Good morning, Devin." A friendly face greeted.

"Good morning," I replied.

"Congratulations on getting into P386. Uh... take a seat, take a seat." He directed, motioning for me to sit down. "By the way, my name is Damian I'm the President of the Builders Council. Georgia is our Vice President." Damian motioned over to a girl who looked over to be about 22 with light brown hair and a blue jumper. Damian, on the other hand, had darker skin, black glasses, and black hair. Two other people were sitting at the table. One had dark hair and a slicked-back man-bun, the other girl had shoulder-length reddish-brown hair.

"Also, that's Steven and that's Ivy," Georgia said pointing to the man-bun guy and the red-haired girl.

"It's nice to meet you all." I cringed at my own words. How could I be so weird? Stop giving computer responses!

The rest of the meeting didn't go much better, according to my own cringe. I was given a badge, to scan me in and out of the portal and a map of the main island so I could plan where I would settle. I was thinking of staying on the southern side. The northern bit was quite crowded, the western edge was mostly ice and snow, the eastern chunk was the community area. There are shops and restaurants, circled around a large park. The southern end was mostly forest and was the only side with a coastline. There were also some small islands that some people were living on, but besides that, everybody lived on the main peninsula.

One of the best parts of this realm is that pets are allowed! I could bring my cat, Mercedes. She is an inside cat, who also loves being outside, so she'll fit right in. Damian said that I should move in sometime next week. I was thinking to move everything on the 5th. It was a little longer than a week, but I could use my dad's big truck to haul boxes and boxes of my things. So, until I can move in, I'll just be sitting at home packing and playing with Mercedes. So now we wait.

930 words. Wow. I didn't think I would be able to write all this and NOT lose my interest. I'm glad I kept this as one chapter and not turn it into two. I hope you liked this also, trust me on this, but it will get much better in the next couple of chapters. Feedback is appreciated!

Love y'all!
