life altering moments

Trinity was heading to the park, to see the children on the slides and swings, the families having a picnic together. It was very serene and comforting . She also enjoyed walking through the trails in the middle of the huge park. She   felt more at home in nature.

Trinity was nearly sixteen and had a nice frame, kind eyes of dark green that could brighten any  day. Trinity had hair the color of raven's feathers, sleek thick black curls. Trinity was a nice well rounded teenager. She had gifts, rare special gifts. Strange things would just happen around her. She knew she was special, but she did think she was a rare kind of special. She was a chosen one. Today she got to enjoy being a bored teenager, waiting for her life to really begin.

                                                        watcher

Canella stood watching the chosen one, trying to size up the level of pain in the butt this would be. She preferred to just watch from the sidelines, that was what she was meant for, she was a soul watcher. Her job was watching over mortals, she had been doing so for centuries, protecting them without their knowledge. This was different, Canella had to deal with the mortal now.

She was not one for people. She didn't care for the company of others. She was not rude or spiteful,  just preferred to work alone, and things went better for her that way. It helped things from getting complicated. She could n't stand working with mortals. They did nothing but ask questions that over centuries, Canella was tired of answering

She knew she had to get Trinity started with this, but she knew that one or two days of letting the young girl stay a young girl who didn't know what dangers really were lurking in the shadows. Canella could give the girl nothing else; she could give Trinity one more day.

She also wondered what magical abilities had begun to surface with the girl, if any. She was hoping the girl had at least discovered some of her magical abilities. She really didn't want to have to teach her everything from scratch. It would take too long, leaving all that is good and pure in the world vulnerable. Canella was not going to let that happen on her watch. She just hoped that this girl was not too defiant. She could handle a lot but she did not tolerate rebellious teenagers, they made her just want to vomit. In time she would find out what she needed to know,  another day at the most before having to explain all of this to  Trinity.

Trinity was sitting on the back porch of the small house, staring at the stars. She wondered about her life, where it would take her, if she would have children one day. Trinity thought of her life's purpose. She was exhausted yet her thoughts were wide awake, knocking around in her mind. She had a great love of adventure, like most teenage girls.

She sat like that for hours, just thinking about how her life might turn out. She did not hear her mother, Adina calling for her.

"Trinity Fate!" Adina yelled to her daughter out of more annoyance than concern.

Adina waited another five minutes before going on the back step to find her daughter day dreaming again. What else was knew? Adina thought. That girl had her head in the clouds so much she could probably tell you when it would rain next. Adina waited, but when Trinity had not noticed her, she made a small sound to get her attention.

Trinity jumped only a little bit. She spun around; half worried it wasn't her mom. She was a little embarrassed by her reaction to the sound. She smiled as her cheeks began to blush.

"Mom. I'm sorry I didn't hear you." Trinity answered her mother.

"It's okay, really. You plan on sleeping out here? It's  late." Adina replied to her.

Trinity giggled by the notion. However she was not one for sleeping outdoors. She did not care for a lot of nocturnal creatures, especially bats, spiders or raccoons. They looked as if they were out for blood.

"Of course not mother." Trinity replied. She stood up and followed her mother back inside. Trinity told her good night and then headed to her bedroom. She was a little tired, she thought to herself.

The next morning Canella got up, ready to get things done. She knew what had to be done before night fall; she was not looking forward to this. She brewed herself a cup of strong coffee. She was going to need it for what lay ahead of her today.  She was grumbling through her small loft style apartment. She was moping around and knew it. She had a few mortals to look in on before she had to deal with the teenage mortal. That was going to be interesting, if nothing else.

She waited a few more minutes before pouring it. When it cooled she sipped slowly. She set the cup down. "I do not want to do this." She spoke out loud to the empty loft.

She shook her head, forcing her to get things rolling. She had no choice. Things would be more difficult soon enough. She needed to check on her first mortal of the day, Brian. He was a good kid but like Trinity he had gifts as well. The few rare gifted mortals had to be watched closely. They had a higher rate of self-destruction than most.

Later that same morning, Trinity rose from a long and restful sleep. Disoriented, until she was fully awake. What was today? It is Sunday that's right. On Sundays, Trinity did not have chores. That was her mother's way of rewarding her for doing them the rest of the time. Trinity thought it was fair. She also did not mind sleeping late . It was a nice thing of her mother to do for her. Trinity was an appreciative person she always had been.

She had nothing that needed done today. She could go hang out with her friends;  could go to a movie anything  really . Sick of sitting around the house waiting for something cool to happen to her, She craved action and adventure. She hated to just sit around and do nothing, especially on a Sunday. It was what could only be called the teenage itch. The need to run and be free, to be out of the house and on your own.

She couldn't wait for that to happen. Trinity looked in her top drawer to find her poetry book. Trinity Fate spent her fondest hours at home writing in her poetry book. She could not write a decent book report or term paper but poetry seemed to call out to her. It was one thing she was truly passionate about. She didn't share them with a lot of outsiders.

Stumbling through the dark

Blinded by sanity

I am over run with too much of my own reality

All truth is but a lie

I ponder as I look to moonlit skies.

These are the thoughts you see

That keeps me awake when I cannot be.

After fidgeting around in her bedroom for what seemed to be forever she grabbed her shoes and headed out. She longed for an adventure, a break from the boring existence that she knew far too well.  When she got there, first she stopped by her favorite bench, near an old oak tree. She watched as people came and went.

While Trinity sat there in the park, not five feet away Canella watched the young one. She hated having to deal with humans, especially teenage girl humans. Almost all of the ones she had met were obnoxious, fool hearted and irresponsible. She knew in her very essence she was going to find this to be miserable. She watched Trinity for a few more minutes before deciding that she needed to get this going. The sooner it began, the sooner it shall end, Canella thought. She got up from where she was sitting, behind a large tree.

When trinity saw the strange woman approach her she beamed a smile. She loved to talk to people.

"Hello, it's a great day for the park." Trinity told the strange woman who sat down next to her on the park bench.

"Hello to you too, yes it is."

"I'm Trinity." She offered trying to be polite.

"I know who you are, dear."

Trinity was officially scared when this woman she had never met said that to her. Trinity just stared at her for the longest moment. She didn't know what to say or even think at this point. She wondered if she was about to be abducted by this strange woman who said she knew her.

"I don't abduct people." Canella told her in a flat tone.

Trinity's jaw dropped, and then the color began to drain from her delicate face. Canella just shook her head in grief. She could tell they were not getting anywhere.

"How about you relax? Get ahold of yourself child!" She instructed the girl.

"Who are you?" Trinity demanded of the strange woman.

"I am Canella, your watcher." She introduced herself.

"What is a watcher?"

"It is like what your kind calls a guardian angel or spiritual guide, that's all."

"I am not trying to be rude but if you are my watcher why are you here? Am I going to die soon or something?" Trinity asked in fear.

"Oh no dear it is nothing of that nature, I am here to help you with your path." Canella explained to her.

"Miss, what on earth are you talking about?"

"Do you even know why you were named Trinity?" Canella asked her with a scornful look.

"No I don't."

"Trinity is from your heritage, you were born of the old Irish celtic tradition, of the old ways. You were meant to be a very powerful witch. I am to mold you into the witch you are destined to become."

Trinity just stared at her, as if her stance was saying; yeah right chic. Trinity liked to think she was open minded but not a complete idiot.

"I don't like it anymore than you do. Has anything truly weird happened since your last birthday?" Canella asked her, knowing that would strike something. It sure had, trinity looked at her.

"How did you know that?" Trinity asked her in more of a reaction than actual curiosity.

"Look you are just going to have to trust me, you can read souls, are extreamley psyhic and you have future events occur in your dreams, right?" Cantella asked her in a sarcastic tone to prove her point.

Trinity gave her a look, then suddenly shook her head yes. She knew the woman wasn't full of it. She was right about what had been happening in the last four months. It was creepy.

"How did you know about that?" Trinity asked in a slightly alarmed tone. Canella just rolled her eyes and took a deep breath, calming her nerves. You had to explain everything, constant questioning.

"I am your assigned watcher dear, every new soul gets one, for eternity. I know everything about you." She explained hoping that would be enough.

"Do you mean like a guardian angel?" Trinity asked cocking her head to one side.

"Yes dear, very good. It is something like that." Contella answered her. Thank goodness she thought to herself. Maybe this human would not be as difficult as some of the others. She smiled at the young girl. Maybe training her wouldn't be so bad. She could see why they wanted this one, her aura seemed to glow with an innocent joy, like a child exploring.

"You are a chosen one my dear. In the best way I can put it, we need to start your training soon."

"Why, what am I training to do?" Trinity asked in a simple voice.

"You have a massive amount of magic within you. Just as there are dark humans, there are also dark witches who want that power." Contella explained as calmly as she could. She knew the girl would have questions, but they weren't badgering ones. She didn't mind a few of the obvious questions, it was when they didn't stop that boggled her mind and wretched her nerves.

"What kind of magic?" Trinity asked as her eyes lit up, sparkling.

"Magic of the purest form, a true inner magic, you need to harness it." Contella instructed her.

Trinity nodded, taking her seriously, she just had a sense that this woman was telling her the truth. She had a good vibe from her, the woman whatever she was, made her comfortable. Trinity had spent the afternoon learning about her gifts, and the gifts of others like her.

When Trinity finally did say goodbye to her it was getting late, the sun had turned the sky a gorgeous red and orange color, letting you know daylight was ending once more. She stopped to watch the sun set before walking back home from her day at the park. She was in high spirits the entire evening, Even when she was off in her bedroom at home that night.

Late that  night, under the full moon's shimmering glow Trinity began to look through her poetry book again, mostly out of boredom.  Sitting in her room meditating for hours. Though it was new to her, she was rather good at it. She had also written down bits and pieces of what she saw in her mind during the meditation. She would ask her watcher about it.  Flipping through the old book until finally a blank page of her nearly filled poetry book. She began to let her thoughts roll around in her mind and  the wheels began to spin.

Past present and future intwined

Fate working with the divine,

Set a path for me to find,

Yet I search, feeling blind.

I look high and low,

The more I search the less I know.

They very next day when school was done for another eight hours, Trinity ran for the park instead of going home. When she raced through her small town, she was full of excitement. She was really looking forward to seeing the mysterious woman again. She had a strange sense about the watcher and  was looking forward to whatever this training was about.  Exhausted and out of breath, Trinity made it to the park. She spotted her on the same park bench as before, as if she were waiting for Trinity.

She quickly scurried to the bench to meet with the strange woman. She smiled at the watcher who smiled back and stood up to greet her.

"There you are child. Are you ready to begin?" She asked getting directly to the point.

"Yes, of course." Trinity replied with great respect for her elders.

Trinity was more than a little curious as to what he would be learning about. She waited as Canella gathered her thoughts for a moment.

"First, I want you to start keeping a special book at home, for what we discuss here. It will have spells, recipies, dreams as well as other things we will get into later." She paused for a moment making sure the young girl was paying close attention. " It will be a private book you show to no one, ever." She stared at Trinity.

"Yes I understand completely. I keep a poetry book at home." She informed the watcher.

"Really, that is a good sign. They aren't poems by the way."

"What do you mean they aren't poems?" Trinty asked very confused.

"Those are your practice spells glowing from your inner magic."

Trinity did not say anything, but had mouthed the word wow, and responded with a look of amazement and clarity.

"Is that why I write more of them under the full moon?"

"Yes, and now you are thinking like a witch."
