chapter 5
"You will lass. I know his father George; he is a real nice fellow. It will be fine." Angus informed her.
Gwen was relieved that her parents approved of him. She smiled at her father and mother and hugged her friend. She was happy to have such a wonderful day with Emily's news and her parent's approval of Edwyn she could not have wanted anything else to be happy. Her mother was in a glorious mood, as well. Emily stayed for quite some time, They went to her room to talk, she wanted to help with the wedding in any way she could. She loved Emily like a sister. She always had, ever since childhood. She was a great friend.
Later on that evening long after Emily returned home and her parents were in bed, Gwen lay there. She could not help it she was too excited to sleep. She was going to be a bridesmaid at Emily 's wedding, and tomorrow she would see Edwynn and that thought kept her awake. She wondered first what she would wear she still did not know. Then she wondered what she would say to him, or would he reject her completely? She thought about him as she eventually fell into a deep sleep
The next morning , Gwen was a nervous wreck. She didn't know what to say or do. She was half afraid to go but she knew she should. She quickly finished her breakfast and went to her room. She still didn't know what to wear when she left for town later on in the day. She needed to just go into her room go to her small closet and pick something. After going through her closet three or four more times she eventually settled on a nice maroon summer dress.
After what seemed like forever it was time for her to go into town to meet Edwyn, to put Maggie's plan into action. She was excited and nervous , happy and scared at the same time. Her heart was pounding it felt as if it would go through her chest. She walked quickly but she did not run . She did not want to be out of breath. She remembered the coins and the wooden box containing the dagger. She made sure not to forget them. She enjoyed the long steady paced walk to town, she always had. She loved the tree and the sky, the beautiful landscape that was home to her. She adored watching birds fly through the air, gnomes working in the forest, faeries tending to the plants.
It did not take her very long to get to the main square of town, there were a lot of people out and about this fine afternoon. She passed by the carpenter and then walked along, waving to the butcher then passing the front of the grocer's store she saw the blacksmith's shop, in the window she could see Edwynn, her heart began to leap up and down. This is it she though to herself and took a long deep breath before she slowly opened the door and walked into the store where Edwin worked.
She smiled trying desperately to hide her nervousness. She just hoped to the mother goddess that things would be okay for her. She was half scared out of her mind. She first tried to remember to breathe. George looked up and saw young Gwen standing there. He was busy re-shoeing a couple of horses. He yelled to Edwyn who was in the back of the shop . Within minutes she heard Edwyn coming to the front of the store. She tried to think of what to say; she just hoped it would come to her when the time was right.
Edwyn nodded to his father before going to the counter opposite of where she was standing. He looked at her for a moment before he spoke to her, with a smile.
"Gwen isn't it?" he asked with a soft gentle tone.
"Yes that is right."
"How can I help you?" Edwin asked her
"Oh, right. I have this dagger, here in this box that I need to have sharpened." She then showed the box to him.
"It belongs to a friend of mine; I would of course pay you for the trouble." Gwen quickly added.
"Oh, wow that is a nice dagger, I would be happy to sharpen it for you." He told Gwen. He smiled at her, and then told her it would be only one coin because it was her. She smiled at him blushing a little. Gwen looked at Edwin for a long moment then she suddenly spoke to him blurting out her words for fear she would lose her nerve to do so.
"There is another matter we need to discuss as well." She stared at him. He looked up suddenly then replied to her.
"What matter would that be?" he was slightly puzzled by itches had no idea what she could be referring to. She panicked and had no idea what to say or do, so she leaned closer to him, and without realizing what she was doing more by instinct that actual thought. She kissed him. He had a pretty good idea of what she meant by another matter.
