chapter 49
Riding through the third village that day on top of his mystical beast, Abyss he searched for the demon fairy but there was no sign of Rowen anywhere. He hated chasing fairies, especially those of the demon variety. He then noticed a small village not twenty yards from them.
"What do you say, shall we rest there?" he asked his friend.
"I suppose there is as good as anywhere else, but would you mind if I remain in this forest?" Suggested the black velvet unicorn.
"If you would prefer it, sure." He then gently stroked her left ear. Just before the village, he dismounted the magical beast.
"We shall meet back here in under an hour." He informed his friend.
Abyss nodded and then trotted off to find a nice quiet place to rest in her natural element. She didn't care for the crowded places inhabited by humans. She didn't mind a few of the magical mortals, but not many others.
Shane walked into the small village, hoping to find a sign of Rowen during his short rest. All demonic creatures no matter what the breed or race, left an imprinting scent in the air that certain warlocks could pick up on. The warlock could sense if the demon had been in a certain place and almost exactly how long ago. It was a rare gift amoung several of the warlock coven and remaining ancient clans of magic. Shane knew of his abilities since he had been very young.
He walked into the village and headed for what seemed to be the center of town, there were quaint little shops, a nice sized tavern and then he saw the fountain. It wasn't much different from others he'd seen, but it looked like a good place to relax and watch the villagers pass by. He settled on a bench over looking the fountain, it was a good place to stay before continuing on with the hunt. It seemed like a friendly little town as he noticed lots of people visiting on the streets. He scanned the perimeter but found not a single impression of the demonic fairy. This hunt seemed to frustrate him more than most others and he didn't notice the young girl sitting next to him.
"You're not from around here are you?" She asked in the sweetest voice of innocence he had ever heard.
"Is it that obvious?"
She nodded, forcing back a giggle. "I'm Trinity by the way."
"I'm called Shane."
