chapter 17
She didn't get a sense that something was wrong, she would have if one of her mortals were in any danger. She enjoyed watching some of the mortals walking those pets, dogs? Yes that was it she thought . Those were bizarre little things. They reminded her of a troll merging with a mountain goat. She watched a couple pass by her, most likely in those first few months where everything seemed a fairy tale. She nodded to them, thinking how adorable they looked. Barely any time passed between that moment and when Trinity snuck up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder. Canella spun around, startled by the girl.
"There you are Ma'am, shall we begin?" Trinity greeted her.
"I think so; we have a lot of things to cover."
"Really, like what?" Trinity's eyes grew wide, sparkling with curiosity.
"Do you understand the concept of other dimensions, other worlds?"
"I suppose so, why do you ask?"
"You will see dear, soon. For now we need to teach you to protect yourself with your wand, and without it."
"I don't understand, why do I need to protect myself?"
"Just follow my instructions, all right?" Canella asked her, annoyed for the delay.
If she knew what was riding on this entire she wouldn't be stalling the lesson. It could mean war; it could mean the dark ones were gaining power. Trinity wouldn't stop studying if she knew there may be a war involved, maybe not. It was worse not knowing if her own realm would be there when she returned. She felt a shift in the cosmos several days ago. It wasn't good whatever it was.
"Yes, I am sorry. Go on; please I am ready to listen." Trinity sat up straight, ready to learn.
She did not mean to annoy her watcher. She was beginning to wonder why the woman was so uptight. She tried to not show any loss of focus, but could tell Canella was on edge. She stayed focused through the entire lesson; it was past sunset when the lesson was complete. Trinity really didn't mind it. She loved learning about all of it and made her crave for more of it with the thirst of a vampire.
"Trinity, I need your help dear one."
"I would be more than happy to help you, but how?"
"I need you to go somewhere with me, to help people." Canella waited to see if the young witch would say yes to the request. There was a long moment of silence. It seemed to be ages before she got an answer.
"I would love to help. What do we have to do?"
"I will take you there tomorrow for our next lesson."
"Ok, sure that will be great, but I need to get home before I am in trouble." She informed the watcher.
"Yes of course, goodbye dear."
"Goodbye." Replied Trinity before darting off to her house, to avoid any kind of punishment.
Her mother seemed to think every horrible thing in the universe was going to happen to her whenever she stepped outside. She giggled at the thought while she walked home in the night. She quickly rounded the corner and walked in the front door. She heard a little grief from her mother, but she was not in any real trouble for being late. Good Trinity thought, one less thing to worry about. Thank the goddess, she whispered as she slipped into her bedroom to get to work. She lit the candles first, she would need to get more soon, and these were her last ones. Then flopping down on her bed, grabbing her spell and poetry book.
She began with casting a meditative energy circle before she opened her spell book. She slowly lifted the cover and began to leaf through it, until she came to a blank page. She closed her eyes, collecting her inner thoughts for just a moment. Trinity wrote down all of the details of the last lesson with Canella, filling most of one page.
Suddenly it dawned on her the late hour. She immediately blew the candles out, then turned off the bedside lamp and going straight to bed. She needed to help Canella tomorrow afternoon. She was more than curious about that. A smile gently crossed her soft pink lips as she closed her eyes and drifted off into the land of dreams. That night she had never had a more enjoyable dream. It was like something out of a child's fantasy.
There was a small village, surrounded by the largest forest she had ever seen. There was a trail leading through the forest, she followed it. Something told her to go through the forest. She saw an older woman, who looked at her then vanished. She saw a small cottage; walking further she saw something near one of the trees, resembling a pixie or brownie. She called to the creature; it alerted her into the waking world. Trinity then bolted to an upright position as if she were being shot out of cannon. She fumbled to grab a pen, paper and hit the light switch before she forgot any of the dreams. As if she were in a trance, Trinity scribbled as fast as her left hand could go.
The next morning, Trinity was up before her alarm went off. She had to get through school she packed her book bag, putting her spell book in a secret compartment, in case she might need it after school with her lesson. She hoped the morning would go by quickly, but it didn't. It never did when you wanted it to, that was life. Her morning classes were dreadfully boring to her. She had a passion for witchcraft, and she couldn't wait to learn more. The day seemed to pick up after lunch, until it was the last half hour of school for the day. Trinity stared at the clock as if she were hypnotized by it. She could not help it; she was dying to get out of there.
Once the final bell rang Trinity shot out of her seat like a rocket, running through the school as fast as she could. She ran all the way from the school to the park, a good fourteen city blocks away. If she did not find out what Canella wanted her to do, she thought it would make her head explode, the curiosity had gotten to her. She kept running the sooner she got there; the sooner she would find out what kind of help she needed to give her watcher.
It felt like she was never going to get there, this was exciting. Not knowing what was going to happen, witchcraft seemed to bring the life out of her routine shell, she felt with Wicca she was embracing life instead of dreading it. The magical spark with in her had started to bloom. She had things to do and places to be. She found the only magic in a mundane world and it was exhilarating. Trinity ran until she was out of breath and almost to the park bench. Canella was there waiting for her with a grin.
"Young one you have arrived."
"Yes, I wouldn't disappoint you, Canella. You know that." Trinity spoke with sincerity ringing through her voice. She waited for a few minutes; her watcher said nothing to her. She did not want to be rude, but she was excited to get started.
"Where do we need to go for this, to help those people you were telling me about yesterday?"
"Yes dear, of course, we shall go through the park to the deep woods." Canella informed her flatly.
Trinity was wondering about this. Were these people hippies, or dangerous? Is that why they were in the woods? She shook off the fear and doubt, letting it goes from her mind. She followed her watcher deep into the woods. Trinity did not know if they would need anything wherever they were headed, so she packed her book bag with what magical and mundane items she thought were best. She had not packed a lot, she didn't want it to be too heavy to carry, but made sure and brought her spell book. They had gone deeper and further into the woods, she wondered how much longer they would be walking through the woods behind the city park. Canella stopped at a fork on the trail, and then turned to her young student.
"What? I mean, why are we stopping here?"
"We have stopped so that you may open the portal."
"Say again? What portal? I don't know how to do that, or that it was possible to do that." Trinity spat out uncontrollably.
"Just trust me young one you can do this, I know you can." She gently put her hand on the young girl's shoulder, in hopes of comforting her.
"How do I do this?"
"Cast a magic circle first."
Trinity did as she was told, waving her wand across the soft earth in a clock wise pattern. There she thought, looking at Canella for further instruction.
Canella handed her a small piece of paper, looked her dead in the eyes and told her. "Memorize it, chant it over the circle and jump." Trinity studied the words carefully then she started to chant;
"Just before the magic portals go into hiding, a trans dimensional flight we take."
"For the universe's sake we begin. Kasha's bring us home again."
The two of them then jumped as Canella instructed. Suddenly the earth began to change, transcending into a different world with similarities to he one she knew. Trinity watched the landscape, the shapes and colors transforming. She looked a Canella with fear in her eyes. She had no idea what was going on. Canella soothed her with a gentle tone. Her feet for the girl, the first time she traveled this way it scared her, too. Over the centuries she had gotten used to it, but she still remembered the fear and the panic it would bring. She let the poor thing know it was almost over. An enchanting silver mist seemed to just brush over them, it was the strangest thing Trinity had ever seen before.
She wanted to smack herself to see if she was dreaming, or was this really what was going on? She stayed close to Canella, for fear of being lost in unknown territory. As the silver mist began to slowly evaporate, she was amazed at what she saw in front of her. The forest terrain was breath taking, gigantic trees of lavender, dark reds and pink. She was amazed at what she saw, the mountain beyond it peaking over the unimaginable trees. She could not believe what was in front of her. She looked at her watcher and just stared for a long moment in silence. Then unsure as to how to put it she simply blurted out "Where in the gods are we?"
"We are in my home land, Galderia. "
"Is that near Brazil?" In response to her question, Canella giggled ever so slightly then replied, "We are in another dimension, honey."
Trinity fainted, hitting the ground almost instantly. Canella just smiled and shook her head. "Well that just figures, doesn't it?" She spoke to the surrounding forest.
She sat next to the young witch and waited for her to come out of it.
