chapter 16

Meeting with her watcher on a daily basis, she was starting to like learning about witchcraft, seeing her own talents emerge. She had noticed her dreams were more vivid since her training began. She also noticed she was beginning to see things that normal people couldn't. She could just feel things. She did not know if they were ghosts, or perhaps other beings.

She wasn't sure if she should mention it to her watcher. She did add it to her special book that night. She also, stayed up very late trying different vision exercises. She was fascinated by all of it, craved to know more and to experience more of it. She had a thirst for it that could not be quenched. She wanted to know all that she possibly could on the subject, no matter how long it took her. When she did finally give in to sleep, it took her quickly into a deep slumber of dreams. Dreaming of bright green grasses and a small pond  along a narrow path.

The next morning when Trinity woke up for school, she scribbled down the jumbled bits of the dream before getting ready. She didn't mind school  but  would rather be with Canella learning witchcraft instead of geometry and history. She was ready to go long before the last bell rang.

"Trinity, you're getting much faster."

"Thank you, I try." She replied , then the two were ready to begin the training for the day; this time it was herbs.

Herbs and their different uses, magical and mundane cures. It was very interesting for her to learn. She caught on well with herb magic as well as candle magic and meditative power.

She noticed the girl's magic was growing stronger at record speed everyday.

When the lesson was over Trinity hugged her watcher and thanked her for all she had shown her in the ways of magic. Canella smiled, such a sweet child, this one.  It was pleasant for her to teach the girl.

Trinity waved good bye and walked back through the park and headed home. By the time that she had gotten home the moon had risen for the night. Trinity was ready to crawl in her bed and work in her book.

While Trinity was lost in a meditative state, her watcher was off tending to other matters. Canella had other mortals to watch over. She was no longer worried that the young witch was going to be an issue. The girl was able to catch on pretty quickly, and she was one of the very few teenage mortals that she actually liked to be around. The girl listened to her, only asking questions of importance. She also noticed the girl asked few questions and she did not ramble on. She was confident that this young one would stay on the path, she would full fill her destiny. She had to, or the rest of the world would be changed, forever. She needed to have the young witch fully prepared.

She had been checking on her other mortals, she was peeking in on little George McMullen, he was a bright and imaginitve nine year old little boy. He had a rather interesting talent. He couldn't read minds, but he had quite the psychic ability, even for a nine year old. Some mortals can see into the other realms, but they are tiny sparks of it, like a flash of an image. George could see into these worlds, spending a lot of time there.

Over the next few days, Trinity seemed to become more confident in her magical skills. She was not vain about them, and she had a good head on her shoulders. She had told no one but her record book about her training. She knew how people were as a whole. A person is fine. People however are filled with panic, often times acting without thinking. This was her secret and she knew it. That did not bother Trinity in the least bit. It was like a private thing between her and the cosmos. She kept all of it in her record book, along with whatever the watcher told her to put in it. Trinity was on her way home from another of her lessons. Canella had shown her how to cast spells, as well as write her own.

She had been meditating daily over the last several weeks, it did n"t take her long to fall into a trance like state. She was lost in some strange forest type setting, but it did not look like one near where she lived. She fell into a deep almost fairy tale style meditation. It was very relaxing to her. She enjoyed meditation, it was like visiting another world. She had gotten much better at it since she began attempting it. She stayed cross-legged on her bed for a few hours in a trance until she heard some nocturnal animal screeching in the distance.

She wrote down the results of her meditation and how it was interrupted. She then tucked her record book back under her bed. She grabbed her poetry book. She had been meaning to get something added to it sometime this week. She opened the tattered old book and began to carefully look through some of her old poems once again. She enjoyed doing that.

This time, she was having a little trouble. She closed her eyes trying to force herself to think harder. She knew there was a poem rattling around in that brain of hers somewhere. The key was finding it, getting it to come to the surface.  When it came to her, she grabbed her pen and found a comfortable position.

Mysterious forces of the unknown,

How will I make it on my own?

Will I fill my life's purpose,

Or will trouble begin to surface?

Mysterious forces of the cosmos,

What am I to do, what am I to become?

Anything more than yet another confused and lost one?

Tell me please, for this night, I need to see what will become of me?

She put the date on the bottom of the page and smiled. She returned the book to it's usual hiding place. She blew the candles out before seeing what time it was. She still had another hour before she had to go to sleep for the night. Trinity was not sure what to do before bed, so she grabbed a book off the shelf and started to read it in bed. It was not long before she fell asleep in the middle of the first chapter.

When she was ready to deal with the mortal world, she headed out for the day to watch over her mortals. She liked to check in on all of them, just to make sure they are safe. She did not care for a lot of interaction with those she watched over, but she was very protective of her mortals. She almost felt like an outsider bonding to them. She did not mind it, but she remembered what her own teacher had told her about bonding too close to some of the mortals, not all of them are meant for a happy and full life.

The first human she went to peek in on was little George. He was sitting facing the wall talking to a few brownies and pixies. They were doing something the boy liked because he was laughing so hard he fell to the floor. She could not hear what it was, but she liked to see George so happy. The poor kid had a lot of nightmares. When you are a clairvoyant you did not get to chose if you saw good or bad. You saw whatever came through to your mind's eye, be it good or evil, you saw it just the same. She had a bit of a soft spot for the boy. He was adorable, with blond hair and dark mysterious eyes.

Canella shook the thoughts away from her mind. She needed to worry about the present day, the past was gone. She needed to leave it buried, and she knew it. She focused on her present task. It seemed that little George was doing quite well, playing in his room. He seemed fine to her. She went through her daily routine, with no problems. She had left training the young witch for last, it would take most of her time, but she was doing it for a good cause, she hoped. Trinity was showing a lot of promise, and it was still early in her training days.

"There you are. Where have you been?" She greeted her watcher with a bit of teasing.

"I have more things to do than wait here, young one." Canella replied in her down to business voice.

"I was only teasing, of course you have a lot of work besides me, I am sorry." Trinity did not mean to offend ker, in any way possible. She felt like an idiot.

"It is fine dear, really. Let's get started shall we?"

Trinity did not speak a word but simply nodded yes with a grin. Trinity was glad it was time for another training session with her watcher. Each lesion brought something new and exciting for her. She had enjoyed learning candle magic more than the wheel of the year. She loved learning to cast, she wondered what the lesson for today would be. She was sure that it would be another great experience for her record book. She almost always wrote down the experience and how she felt after the lessons in the park with her watcher.

"We will be discussing potion making. I will tell you how to make them on your own." She explained to her young student.

"You can seriously do that? I mean like for real make potions?" Trinity asked with a bit of a squeal in her excited tone. She resisted the urge to jump up and down like a little girl.

"Yes, but there will be no eye of newt, bat wings or other misconceptions. These are very delicate potions, they must be precise. Do you understand?"

" Yes, no margin of error in spell casting, potion making or any other magical implication."

"Good, now we are truly ready to get started. " The watcher informed her before she went into their afternoon lesson.

Trinity listened to her watcher, hanging on everything that the woman said to her.  She knew she had be serious with this, grave consequences. She remembered the speech given to her on the first lesson. Magic is not a toy to be played with, you don't know what the end result might be. How do you get better at anything in life? By practicing it over and over until you get it right. She was itching to test out her magical skills. She knew she really shouldn't play with it, but she couldn't get over this desire to do so.

When the lesson was finished for the day, just before the sun went down for the days end, Trinity raced home. She wanted to get a few things done in her bedroom. She could easily spend hours meditating and writing but she knew she only had so much time to do it in. She quickly went around the corner and up the road. She was finally home, giddy with excitement she ran inside the house.

"Trinity, there you are girl. Where have you been?" Her mother asked casually.

"Hi mom. I was at the park again." Trinity answered Adine.

Adine rolled her eyes at her daughter. She did not approve of spending so much time in the park alone. She could get kidnapped, raped or even murdered by some psychopath. The young think they are invincible.

She wanted to know everything, to absorb as much knowledge of the craft as possible. She adored this exciting new world that she never knew existed before now. She couldn't wait to dive into it further. Once she had filled a few pages of her spell book, she grabbed her poetry book and closed her eyes for a brief moment of clarity. If she began to focus on her inner self.  If she waited for a little, something would come through. She closed her eyes and let her mind go blank. She thought of absolutely nothing  staring  into the candle flame. Trinity picked up the pen almost without thinking about it. The words began to flow not from her but through her.

From with in to with out

Guardians of inspiration,

Send your light upon me.

Help me see what I am blinded from,

As the flowing magic comes.

From what was, what is and will be

The future comes to those that see.

Trinity put the pen down. Before the end of that night, she had written more than a few poems similar to that one. She loved to add them into her book. It was getting full. She would have to ask mother for a new one. It shouldn't be a big deal, her mother was encouraging when it came to poetry. Her mother liked to read poem books, almost whenever she got the chance. She had written a few poems for her mother from time to time. It made her mother smile as if it were softening her in some way. It was nice to see her mother smile about something, especially if it was something she created.

              Watcher....

That same night, Canella had finished checking in with all of her mortals and headed to her sleeping quarters. It was fine with her, it meant the mortals were safe for another day. She hated to admit it to even herself, but she was getting homesick. She missed her own reality.

She missed the mountains, the waterfall and the forest. She missed the tree sprites, gnomes and goblins. She even missed those ugly trolls that resided in the north side of the forest. She had been in the mortal world too long now. She missed great aunt Maggie, she had not seen her in a long time. She was beginning to forget things about her home world. How things used to taste or smell. She was starting to forget, after years of being in the wrong realm, it happens. She couldn't wait to go back.  The hardest part will be convincing Trinity to come with her.

She decided to worry about it when the time comes. There was no sense in even thinking about it now. She continued the long walk back to the place she had been given to call home for the past decade. Her mind kept drifting back to her home land. It was such a beautiful place to live. She missed it terribly now. She would get home sick on rare occasions, but not like this. She could easily think of something else any other time.

Not this time, it was different. She began to wonder if she needed to call on the guardians for council or not. Was there a problem in her own world? She hoped not praying to the goddess for her family's safety back home. She hoped she had just been here in the mortal realm too long. Her soul was missing the world of magic, that was all. It was fine. When she did return home she would need to ride over to see great aunt Maggie. That was if she ever got back home again.

The next morning Canella was up , ready to get through another day. It was one day closer to getting back home, where she truly belonged. She  had to finish the mission. She  had to train the witch first. Then she had to get her to open the portal back home, and send the next watcher back through the portal to the mortal realm. She made herself a little coffee to get going, sat and had two cups before heading off to run errands.

She had to move quickly. If they miss the portal back home, she would be stuck here until a new witch is trained or another decade. She would not accept that as her fate, not now or ever. She was dedicated to her duty as a watcher, but she still missed her homeland. She would worry about it later, when she did not have mortals to attend to. She just hoped that when she did return home that Galderia would still be there. She did not know if the dark creatures had attacked the light side of the forest.

She needed to focus on this realm, things were being set into place. She hoped that if nothing else maybe within a week she would be home. She hoped that would be the truth. She wished for it, like crops wish for rain. She headed off to see how little George was doing this morning. He was a very special little boy. She really liked seeing him playing through the window, seeing him lining up his cars, building bridges and tunnels with his blocks. His magical friends, mostly fairies, liked to see the things he would make too. It was as if something out of a wonderful dream. He was adorable, a very intelligent child with gifts this world would never understand.

She was glad that he was doing well. Some magically gifted mortals did not adjust well in the mortal world. That's why some mysteriously disappear, the body never recovered, no where to be found. It's no where here to be found. The watcher noticed she was getting side tracked. Take care of the mortals, they can not know of it in most cases. She had lost her focus a little too often this day. She hoped to just snap out of it before the afternoon. She did not want to be this scatter brained when training the young witch. The morning seemed to go by easily for her. Time was over twice as slow in this realm. Today it was different for her.

The young one would not beat her there today, not likely. She had planned to make it to the park fairly early this time, to enjoy it's beauty before the work needed to be done. She walked slowly to the park, enjoying a moment of peace in this funny realm. Even after all this time she still did not understand the mortals or their way of life. She did not see what the rush was for, always running around everywhere. It was hilarious to see them all scatter around, like small forest creatures.
