~ 5 Years Later ~

Katniss Mellark's P.O.V.

Five years ago today, I married the love of my life. Peeta Noah Mellark. It was four years ago since he saved me from my pain. Five years since we saved each other. And took on each other's pains and sorrows. Some of ours grew. When I turned twenty four, Peeta had a massive flashback. I was hospitalized. But I was okay. We grew. We are better. Things have been amazing, just him and I. And of course our loving canine friend, Daisy. We haven't thought much of growing. Even though it has been ten years of being married. We haven't had much thought since the loss of who would've been our son. Peeta hasn't asked, or pressured me into it. Which I am grateful for. I may be able to soon. I want to. Even though a part of me in my mind is deathly afraid of the idea. I want to fulfill the wishes of my dearly loved dandelion. But a part of me isn't prepared. I feel afraid of the possibility of losing another child. I do know it wasn't my fault. I refused to believe in the possibility. Which was a mistake on my part. I didn't trust myself, or even the words that could be true by my mother or Peeta. Which was a mistake and also selfish of me. They just wanted me to be safe. But neither one of them blame me. Even though I did for the longest time. Daisy sits on the floor next to me in the kitchen. I am making supper for tomorrow night. I may or may not give Daisy some of the trimmings of duck. Which she enjoys a lot. She is nine years old now. Still healthy as can be. Mostly she gets her good health from hunting with me and Gale. She is a very beautiful dog. A great companion. I'm glad to have her. She is no Buttercup. No one will replace that old man. He will have a big spot in me. Along with Prim, Cinna, Finnick, and my father. Who I can feel around me all the time. I miss them so, but not as bad as it used to be. The back door to my house opens. My long time best friend, Gale Hawthorne enters. He has his girlfriend with him.

"Hey Catnip." He says.

"Hi Gale, Aleree. What brings you by?" I ask and put the stove on low so I can talk.

"Well, we just have some news for you." Gale says.

"Bad? Or good?" I ask.

"Good, definitely good. Gale and I are going to get married!" Aleree says.

I gasp. "Oh my God! Congratulations you guys!" I say and hug Gale and Aleree.

"Thanks, Katniss." He says. "We were wondering if you and Peeta want to join us in 12 later? Maybe celebrate your anniversary?"

"We'd love to. I'll let him know. Should we just meet in the Square?" I say.

"Yeah sure. Around six-ish." Aleree says.

"Great, we'll be there." I say. "And congrats again, you two. I am so happy and excited."

"Thank you. We are too." Gale says.

I hug both of them before they leave. I set the food aside to let it stay warm. I rustle Daisy's head.

"Soon we may just hunt alone girl. He may move away after he's married." I say to her.

She whines. "Oh, but it'll be alright. It used to be us, remember?" I say and make a pout face at her.

She barks at me and then licks my face. "Good. You'll still come with me." I say and kiss her head.

"We'll be gone tonight. Will you be good?"

She barks again and jumps on me. "That's a good girl, Daisy. You're such a sweetie pie." I say and pet her.

I head to the stairs. Daisy isn't too far behind me. I sit on my bed and pick up the phone. I dial the number to the Bakery. It rings then picks up.

"Hello, Mellark Bakery. This is Peeta, how can I help you?"

"Hey you."

"Oh, Katniss. How are you?"

"Good, guess what?"

"What?"

"Gale is engaged! He wants us to go out, if that's okay."

"That's great. When are they thinking?"

"Six-ish."

"My shift is over in about an hour. I'll be home then, okay?"

"Alright. See you then. I love you."

"Love you too, Kat. And Happy Anniversary."

"Happy Anniversary, Peeta. I'll be waiting for you."

"I'll try to hurry, Kat."

"Don't rush. I need time to get ready."

"Alright. I'll see you soon."

"Bye."

"Bye."

I put the phone on the jack. Daisy comes and sets her head in my lap. I stroke her head. I sigh.

"Do you ever feel alone girl?" I ask her.

She looks at me with a sad look and whines. "Me too. Even with you. What would you say to someone else here too? Not just us and Peeta."

Her tail wags a lot. I smile and laugh a little. "Well maybe someone will come. Would you like that?"

She pants and barks at me. I laugh. "But you'd have to be gentle. A human is different, girl. But they'd love you, nonetheless. But I'll have to think about it and talk it over first. But you won't be alone soon. I swear." I say

I stand and head to the bathroom. I undress and get into the shower. I wash my body and hair. My long, dark, hair sticks to my back and drips down my body. I scrub it with shampoo and conditioner that smells of strawberries and lavender. I turn off the water when I am clean. I step out of the shower and grab a towel. I dry my body and pat my hair dry. I take out a blow dryer and start to dry my hair. When it is dry I braid my hair down my back. It used to be so long. I cut it a while ago. It now just goes to the end of my shoulder blades. It was to my rear. I put on a simple outfit. A white sundress with flowers, one of my pair of boots, and some lipstick. I put on a cardigan as well. Since I get cold easily, even in the spring. Daisy follows me downstairs. I look at the time. Peeta should be arriving home any minute. And just then, he does.

"Katniss, I'm ho- Oh. Hey." He says when he sees me.

"Hi," I say and go to hug him.

"You look nice. Ooh, and smell good too." he says and kisses my temple.

"Thanks." I say and peck his lips.

He lets me go. Daisy jumps up on him He pets her and greets her.

"I'll get ready, now. Be down in a few okay?" He says.

"Alright. I'll take Daisy out on a quick walk." I say.

"I bet she'd love that." He says then pats her head.

"Be back in a few minutes." I say.

"See you then." He says.

I grab Daisy's leash. I hook it onto her red collar. I leave our house. I walk Daisy out of the Victors Village. I walk her around the District. When I get home, Peeta is ready. We leave Daisy and head back into the District.

Peeta's P.O.V.

Katniss and I enjoy time out with Gale and his fiance Aleree. They really are good for each other. I'm glad he is happy. I know it must've been hard for him to not have Katniss. He had something for her. They asked us to be their best people for the wedding. Katniss will be a maid of honor. And I will be a best man. They don't have a set date yet, but they want it in the summer next year. Katniss and I enjoy our own evening with wine and bread by the fire. We've been married 5 years as of today. April 15th. A day I won't forget. I hold Katniss with one arm. Daisy rests along our laps.

"Hey Peeta?" She asks.

"Yeah, Kat?" I ask.

"Can we talk?" She asks.

"Yeah, sure. About what?" I ask.

"Well..." she sits up. "About the future of us." She says.

"Okay. What do you think?" I ask.

"I am not saying now, but... soon, I'd like a family." She says with a smile.

"Wait what? Are you serious?" I ask growing excited.

"I am. But like I said, not now." She says and laughs.

"Okay. I can wait." I say. I hug her. "I'm just happy you said yes."

"Me too." She says.
