"We'll be arriving in D.C shortly." Harry told me a few days later. "The Air & Space museum will be closed, but the five star club I'm taking you to will not be."
"We're going to a club?" I smiled. "Good thing I brought Susan along with me." I reached into my back and showed Harry the same fake I.D that I had shown him the first day that we had met.
"Shit, I forgot you're underage." Harry cursed. "I feel like a bad influence now."
"I don't know what you're talking about." I smirked. "My name is Susan and I'm twenty five."
"Yeah, shut it Susan." Harry joked back. I rolled my eyes and scrolled through my Twitter feed for the tenth time in ten minutes. Being in the bus with Harry was great, but there was only so many things that you could do while on the road, and at times it could get boring.
"If it makes you feel better, whenever I was forced to attend events alongside my parents, I always drank champagne. And I've also been to a club before, you aren't exactly corrupting me."
"Damn it." Harry smirked as he glanced over at me. Something about the way he looked today had me feeling completely flustered. He looked just like he did every other day, but it seemed like only today I was realizing how captivating he looked.
A light blush rose to my cheeks as I realized what was going through my mind. If Harry found out that I found him even the least bit attractive, I would be mortified. Reassuring myself that it would never happen, I dismissed myself to the back of the bus to start working on my appearance for tonight.
I felt something brush against my legs and froze for a second before I realized that it was just Cat. She had a habit of sneaking up on people, the only difference was that when it was me she would brush against my legs and when it was Harry she would feast on his toes. He had at least three Niall band-aids on his toes.
Getting ready didn't take me very long. I never understood how girls took ten years to get ready for a party or a club. To me, it seemed ridiculous to spend so much time and effort in making yourself look completely different for one night. If I wanted to drastically change my appearance, I would have gotten plastic surgery. I wasn't about to take two hours to get ready for one event.
The bus had stopped as well, and Harry joined me in the bathroom and combed through his hair.
"Just to warn you- this club is very... high end." Harry spoke slowly. "I guess there is a very wealthy corporation that owns it and it's sort of fancy. But you could wear that black dress tonight."
"Okay." I said as I brushed my teeth. "Wait.. how do you know I had a black dress?"
Harry immediately blushed.
"I was going to surprise you and take you to this fancy club, but I didn't know if you had a dress. So I just did a bit of research." The way he put it was completely harmless. I, on the other hand, was thinking about all of my bras and underwear I had in my suitcase.
"What else did you see?" I questioned, pointing my toothbrush at him accusingly.
"That's all." He said honestly. "It was on the top."
"Good." I sighed. "Alright, you're in the clear. I'll wear the black dress."
"Make sure it comes to mid-thigh." Harry teased.
"Harry, we're going to a club, not high school." I laughed. "Oh, make sure if you don't wear a cutoff shirt tonight. We wouldn't want anyone to be distracted by your sexy shoulders."
"They are sexy." Harry defended himself. "Oh, I have a few friends that I promised I would meet up with at some point today. They're in the music industry and I haven't gotten to see them in a while. You'll like them, don't worry."
"Yeah, that's fine." I reassured him. "I'm sure I'll love your friends."
.
I was wrong.
We had gotten to the club approximately an hour later, at around eleven. The place was already packed with people and it was no secret that this place was any less than luxurious. A few people snapped photos of Harry, but I walked a bit behind in an attempt not to be photographed.
The bouncer didn't even ask to see my fake I.D. Once Harry and I passed the line of awaiting people outside, I sighed with relief and stuck it back in my small handbag.
"Welcome to Club M!" He said as we made our way through the elaborate entrance.
The inside was just as gorgeous as the outside- with lots of dark purple decor and purple lights streaming all around. The music was just as loud as any other club and I could feel it vibrating the room as I took each step.
"I'm gonna go get us a round of shots, meet me in the VIP lounge!" Harry shouted in my ear over the music. I nodded, still adjusting to the noise as I made my way up a flight of stairs toward where Harry said the VIP lounge was. I had never been in a VIP anything before, so as soon as I made it there I immediately felt like royalty.
"I got them!" Harry cheered. He held a tray filled with shot glasses full of liquor and we sat down. It was much quieter up here compared to the chaos that was downstairs.
"Is this just straight vodka?" I asked.
"Only the best." Harry laughed, taking his first shot. I giggled and grabbed a small glass, throwing my head back quickly as I felt the liquid burn down my throat. I had to remind myself that the burning would stop after a few drinks, I just had to get used to it. That's what always happened.
Soon enough, Harry's friends arrived. I was introduced quickly to all of them- Gary, Sharlene, Andrew, Will, and Gwen. They were all in their twenty-somethings and took no time in stealing the rest of our shots. I gave Harry a wary look and he just shrugged in my direction before his attention was turned toward Gwen. She was a stunning blonde who definitely had liposuction done on her upper lip and her eyebrows could only be seen through a microscope. They both giggled together at something at her phone.
"I need more vodka!" I announced. Gary, the quieter one of the bunch, offered to get us another round.
"So, how did you and Harry meet?" Harry's friend called Will asked. He was very cute, I had to admit, with shaggy blonde hair and dark green eyes that were still bright in the dark lighting.
"We're just old friends." I shrugged. "He needed someone to come along and make sure he didn't get into trouble on his road trip." Will laughed at my little joke, but Harry and Gwen were into a far too in depth conversation to care. It annoyed me.
"So, what brings you guys to D.C?" Will asked.
"We're visiting some museums tomorrow, going to try and be tourists." I said vaguely. "What about you?"
"Oh, I've lived here for about two years now." Will explained. "I work for a music producing company here and it just made sense to move to the area. It's great though, I love it."
I was about to reply, but Gary had returned with the drinks. I took three for myself before anyone else could steal them all, secretly glancing and Harry and Gwen across the table. They both did a few shots together and resumed their talking about whatever was so interesting.
I downed my shots real quick.
The rest of the night went on extremely slowly. Everyone in the group (that I had only met tonight) had gone down to dance, but I felt weird dancing with these people that were basically strangers to me.
"You sure you don't want to come?" Harry asked.
"I will later." I said, not wanting to intrude on him and his friends. "Save me a dance, okay?"
Harry nodded and left to go down to the dance floor with Gwen.
The only good part of tonight was when I was left alone with all the alcohol.
Sharlene and Andrew had come back up and sat by the bar, not talking or noticing me still at the table. By the way they acted together and their body language towards one another, I could definitely tell that they were a couple.
A half an hour went by and I was still sitting at the same damn table. Harry hadn't bothered to come up, most likely still dancing with Gwen, and I felt really awkward. He was the only person that I knew at this club and sitting here by myself felt lonely.
At one point I caught a glimpse of him. He was with Gwen, Gary, and Will. I wanted to join them, but I also didn't because I had no clue who his friends were. I had assumed that tonight he would be taking me out to have some fun, but he only invited me because he felt bad ditching me in the bus to go hangout with friends.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed and lit up from a text.
1348592039: Loving that black dress on you tonight. Although I'm not sure why you would come to my father's club?
I frowned. I recognized that number to be Matthew's, but the text made absolutely no sense to me. I had to read it over a few times before my stomach twisted into a tight knot and I realized. Harry had said that the club was owned by a fancy corporation. The name of the club was club M. Vague flashbacks of my father speaking to Matthew's father about his clubs replayed in my mind.
I immediately stood up and ran over to the bar.
"Hello." I said quickly to the bartender. "Quick question, what does club M stand for? The M, I mean?"
"Oh, the M?" The bartender said. "That stands for Miles. You know, Miles Industries? They have a chain of clubs around the U.S."
I was going to be sick.
Tears had already fogged my vision as I ran down the steps to the dance floor. I had to find Harry before Matthew found me, because if Matthew found me he could easily take me back to my parents and my forced marriage would still be in the works. All of my senses were heightened and the tears streamed down my cheeks as I realized that I was having a panic attack.
Looking for Harry was harder than I thought. The sea of people, especially people taller than me, made it extremely difficult to find Harry. I could feel my heartbeat echoing in my ears as the fear rose in me that Matthew was potentially watching me right at this second.
And then I found Harry.
I didn't hesitate to run up to him and totally push Gwen to the side. Once Harry saw how hysterical I was, he immediately gave me a concerned look and pulled me into a side hallway, where he could hear me better.
"Mia, calm down." Harry said. "What happened? Did someone hurt you?"
"Matthew- h-he's here!" I cried. "W-we have to go now!"
"Matthew?" Harry frowned. "As in your ex-fiance, Matthew?"
"H-his dad owns the club." I said, embarrassingly getting the hiccups as I tried to speak. "And I got a t-text from him."
"Show me the text." Harry demanded. I shakily pulled out my phone and showed him. His jaw tensed with every word he read and I could tell that it made him angry.
"Can we go?" I begged. "H-he'll find me and take me back to them."
Wordlessly, Harry grabbed my hand and laced his fingers through mine. We went out an emergency entrance and quickly hustled toward our bus. It was parked a few blocks away, but with the pace that Harry and I were at, it felt like it took seconds. The whole time my body was shaking, even when we had gotten back onto the bus.
Harry had driven the bus out of the area. He was careful and took a longer way to make sure that we didn't drive past the club, the whole time using his hand to rub my leg soothingly. I was beginning to calm down, bu every once in a while I would hiccup from crying.
"You need to completely power off your phone." Harry said. "That way he can't track you down. I'm going to get us a hotel to stay in tonight instead of staying in the bus. It's okay, you're going to be okay. He can't get you."
Cat had hopped up onto my lap. I was still trying to settle down from having my panic attack when Harry reached over and grabbed my hand. He rubbed his thumb on the back of my hand, as if to tell me that everything would be okay. And I knew that, if I had Harry there, everything would be.
.
About an hour later, we were settled into our hotel. Our window overlooked the city with it's bright and beautiful lights and our room was nice and cozy. We had only gotten one room, I assumed it was because Harry knew I wouldn't want to sleep alone tonight. We were also allowed to bring Cat along, who made herself right at home.
"What about your friends?" I asked Harry as we both got into the king sized bed. "Won't they think you ditched them?"
"Don't worry about it." Harry said. "I'd much rather them think I ditched them than for you to be in danger. I sent them a text, anyway."
I felt bad. Not only for crying in front of Harry, but for making Harry leave so early and leave his friends. I knew he was excited to see them, but then that text from Matthew had to go and ruin everything. I promised to myself that I would make it up to him somehow.
It didn't take long for us to fall quiet. We were both exhausted from all that happened at the club and neither one of us really felt like talking. The silence wasn't awkward between us, it was nice. Harry had me cuddled close underneath his arm and I actually felt safe and secure.
"Thank you." I whispered. "For getting us out of there so quickly."
"Of course." Harry whispered back. "And I would do it again."
