Chapter One

CASEY'S POV

It was chilly outside that Halloween. I shivered for all the kids with costumes that didn't have the most coverage. I remember this one little girl dressed as Belle looked like she was freezing. Her spaghetti straps weren't the best for the weather.

This was my first year not getting dressed. I mean don't get me wrong, I would have loved to get out there and go trick or treating because at 15 I still had a mad obsession over getting and eating all that candy. That year, I actually had a job to get my own candy and the cold weather was never my favorite and you knew that.

This night was important though. It was where I met you.

"Casey, make sure the teenagers don't try to play any pranks like last year. We'll be back at nine. Say goodbye to your sister Wren." My mom said as my six year old sister waved bye to me.

She was dressed as a kitten and she did look adorable. My older eighteen year old sister Layla carried my younger brother Dylan who just turned two who was dressed as little Barney.

It was just me staying in the house on Halloween night while they went trick or treating.

I ate the candy I bought the night before and stared out my window watching all the kids and parents. I liked watching all the different costumes. The streets in the neighborhood started clearing up at 8:15 and by 8:30 I was yawning. I was about to go over to my bed when I heard it out my window.

A loud banging sound came followed by a lot more. I ran back to my bedroom window to see the whole thing. A red jeep swerved and slammed into a green mustang.

The mustang was smashed into and pushed back while the jeep rolled over the mustang landing up side down.

At first I don't know what to do. What do I do? I gasped once it suddenly hit me what had happened. I ran down my stairs and out the front door in my cupcake pajama pants and white tank top.

I didn't know what to do when I first got there. I ran to the red jeep flipped upside down. I got on my knees to see if the person was okay.

There was a man upside down. Blood. There was blood everywhere. More blood then if ever seen in person. I held back from throwing up and called out to the older man. He must have been the drunk driver, but at the moment I wasn't thinking about that.

"Hello! Can you hear me!?" I called out but he didn't respond. I stopped after a while and patted my pockets to see if I brought my phone and remembered I left in my room on my night stand.

I look around and I start to see people come outside. I yell for my neighbor, "Call 911!" She quickly calls.

I look over towards the smashed green mustang. I run over to the totaled car. That's when I see a younger guy. He looked to be about 20 or maybe younger. His eyes were closed and I could see the blood coming from a big cut on his forehead.

I pulled on the door handle, but it didn't budge. I pulled hard. So hard hat I could start to feel the blood from my hand drip. The door finally opened as soon as I could hear the sirens in the distance.

I put my hands on the boys face as soon as I got the door open. I moved my fingers to his neck to see if he had a pulse and I smiled when he did.

"Can you hear me? Please answer me! Sir, can you hear me?" I shouted at the guy.

His eyes slowly started to flutter open. They were so blue that I got lost a little and forgot about the situation I was in. I snapped out of it, "Sir? Can you hear me?"

He groaned and turned his head, holding his eyes closed and wincing when he tried to move. He looked like he was in a lot of pain.

"Don't call me sir. It makes me feel old and I'm not. And can you please lower your voice." He said groggily.

I gasped, I was shocked he would talk and he would say that. I was a very shy person so of course I blushed and rambled.

"Well I know you aren't old. You don't look old at all. You look young, maybe 20 or so. I just wanted to be respectful and what else am I supposed to call you? I mean I was just trying to see if you were okay. I didn't really expect this to happen to me tonight. That's rude sorry, you're the one who got smashed into you by a drunk driver and here I am complaining and-"

"Hey, the whole bunch of talking isn't helping."

I sigh and start to feel bad, "I'm so sorry. Are you okay? Where does it hurt?" I ask even though I wouldn't know what to do.

He groans again, "I think it's safe to say everywhere." He responds.

I nodded my head, "Right, see I'm not really a doctor. I haven't even graduated high school yet. I'm just trying to see that you'll be fine until the ambulance get here."

He smiles, "You are doing a great job." He says opening his blue eyes again.

I sigh, "I'm sorry." I apologize again. I can now see the flashing lights coming down the street. I look down at him again, "You're not going to die right?"

He chuckled but then stops holding his stomach and I ca tell it hurts him, "What's your name?"

I was a little put off he asks this question but answer him, "Casey, Casey Young."

He smiles again, "That will be the name I'll remember when I'm on the edge of death. You'll be my lucky charm Casey."

Before I could respond to him, I'm pushed out of the way as the paramedics take over. I look over to the older drunk guy and I have to look away. There is so much blood and the looks on the paramedics faces tell me he is gone.
