Chapter 4
Thanks for being patient with updates- Wattpad is truly a stress relief for but University often gets in the way. It makes me happy to know my stories can bring other people joy.
That next morning Genji left as soon as you and Angela were able to shake him awake. He was groggy and had sleep written all over his face, but he managed to wander out the door nonetheless. Angela had an 8 am this morning so she was hurrying to roll soft curls into her blonde hair before class. You, on the other hand, didn't start classes until 10 am, something you were very grateful for. So you laid in bed a while longer scrolling through different social media's on your phone,
"Hey, I wanted to ask you something," Angela said softly,
"Yeah, what's up?" You replied sitting up in bed.
"Are you much of a party person?"
You had to think for a minute, in highschool you never went to any parties. Actually, you were never invited to any of the parties. You never really found yourself surrounded by many friends, especially not the type of friends who threw parties on the weekend. You imagined that when you went to college you'd finally get to go to parties and experience that, but now that you were here you weren't sure if you still wanted to party.
"Well..." you started, "I think I want to try and go to a few parties just to see if I like them. But I'm not sure I'll fit in."
"Me too actually. I've never been to a real party before." You felt relieved you weren't alone. "But I also want to try. Maybe this weekend we can try and go to one of the frat parties?"
The word frat made you feel a bit uneasy. You always heard such terrible things about frat parties. But they can't all be bad? Besides, where else would there be a party? It seems like a frat is the only option.
"I don't really know how frat parties work... don't we have to be invited?" You asked,
"I had a sorority girl sit next to me in one of my classes and she said we can basically show up to any party... because we're girls." She added that last part hesitantly. You tried to not show on your face that the idea made you nervous,
"Okay. Did she say which one we should go to?" You asked,
"She did but I don't remember. The letters are so confusing," she chuckled, "But I'll ask her today and write it down. She said this specific one isn't too wild.
Not too wild- that sounded perfect.
You eventually got out of bed and began getting ready. Angela headed out for breakfast before her class so you were alone now. Through the large window in your room, you could see that it looked a bit chilly out. Summer was finally ending and fall was rolling in slowly. You couldn't wait. Fall always made you happy. It means you can finally wear comfortable clothes and drink hot coffee drinks. Fall meant movies and candles and cuddling. If only you had someone to do those things with...
You imaged cuddling under a chunky blanket watching a Halloween movie with Gabriel. The idea at first made you laugh; Gabriel in all his angst and moodiness cuddled up under a blanket. But then you imagined what it would actually feel like to lay your head on his shoulder, to hold his hand under the blankets and snuggle closer for warmth. You sighed- nothing sounded more perfect than a fall day it's Gabriel.
As you get ready you gave into the imagination of going on dates with Gabriel- getting to know him better and watching him open up. It was a silly dream but one you indulged anyways.
Your first class of the day was Chemistry with Genji. You got their first and Genji came in a few minutes after the lecture had started with an energy drink,
"Really, late with an energy drink?" You whispered,
"I can't start my day without em!" He defended himself. You laughed and looked back at the lecture slides, typing notes studiously on your laptop.
Gabriel was upfront, as usual, leaning against the wall while Dr. Moira threw information at us. After about 15 minutes of the lecture she began sending in questions for us to answer at our laptops. All of the TA's began walking around to help answer any questions we had- including Gabriel.
"Take your time with this one. It's important and basically straight out of your first exam." Dr. Moira instructed.
You read the question as it popped up on your screen,
What is the dominant intermolecular force in water molecules?
"I think it's dispersion forces," Genji said quickly and proudly,
"What? No!" You stopped him from submitting his wrong answer. "It's obviously hydrogen bonding."
"No!" Genji defended himself,
"Genji I swear." this was actually something you remembered from high school.
"Fine let's ask a TA then." Before you could object Genji's hand flew up. Immediately after your heart dropped.
Gabriel was the closest TA to you two. You watched as he approached Genji's hand, you could tell he recognized you both from lab.
"What's up?" Gabriel asked gruffly. It sounded like he had just woken up. The idea of hearing that gruff voice as the first thing in the morning fluttered into your mind,
"This is dispersion forces, right?" Genji pulled you from your imagination,
"No it's not Genji," You said again,
"And why do you think this?" Gabriel asked you calmly, his eyes staring directly into yours. Your hands began to sweat and your heart pounded. This was your chance to prove you're not a total idiot.
"Well, water is a polar molecule so that means it's either dipole-dipole or hydrogen bonding." Your voice shook,
Gabriel nodded encouragingly, "So which one is it?"
"Well since water has hydrogen and oxygen in it, the hydrogen will inflict force on the oxygen... making it hydrogen bonding." You gulped. You knew it was right a moment ago but now that Gabriel was staring you down you weren't so sure.
Gabriel's face broke into a small smirk. He nodded, "Maybe you're not as hopeless as I thought." He then turned and walked away down the stairs.
Once again, he managed to steal all the air from your lungs. Your hands were still sweating when Genji finally poked you,
"Are you going to submit your answer?"
"Oh," you clicked on the bubble, "Right."
Genji began laughing hysterically, "Oh my god! Why do you have that look on your face!"
"What look!" You screeched,
"The look you have every time he's around!"
"Oh no..." You put your hands on your cheeks, "Am I ugly?"
Genji laughed even more, "Impossible."
"Why did you call him over! You didn't even give me a chance to explain it first!" You complained,
"Maybe I knew I had the wrong answer..." He said mischievously, "Maybe I just wanted to give you the opportunity to prove you're not stupid in front of you know who."
You punched his arm "Genji!!"You cried as he laughed.
The week flew by and before you knew it, it was Friday night. The three of you were getting ready for your first night out. The whole idea of fratting made you nervous still but you were determined to get over it. Angela was curling her long blonde hair in the mirror above the sink and Genji was fussing with his outfit.
"Are you sure this looks good?" Genji asked you. You smiled at him and looked over his outfit. It was basically just different shades of black- Black jeans, a gray t-shirt and a black jacket over the top. He looked really good.
"You look amazing Genji."
Meanwhile, you looked over your own outfit. You had only really brought one fancy outfit but it wasn't quite as slutty as a frat party outfit should be. You hated the idea of trying to look slutty... it made your stomach turn. You had on your stretchy, black pencil skirt but you pulled it up so it ended about 3 inches from your butt. On top you had a white shirt tucked in that you pulled the sleeves down so it was an off the shoulder top. Lastly, you had on your white converse. Heels were definitely not an option for you.
Angela actually had on a similar outfit. She also had a skirt on but her top didn't have straps at all. Despite having less clothing on than you, Angela managed to look classy and elegant. You felt like you looked trashy.
You finished up your makeup at your desk, you kept it fairly simple but added a lot more highlighter than usual and but on some smokey eyeliner all around your eyes to make them stand out.
You looked in the mirror and let out a long sigh,
"What?" Angela asked from across the room,
"I feel like I look awful," you confessed.
"Oh gosh," Angela frowned, "Are you serious?"
"What?" You asked nervously,
"You literally look so hot." Angela blurted.
"If you know who is there," Genji added, "He won't be able to help himself from talking to you!"
"What?" You gasped, "Do you think Gabriel could be there?"
Angela and Genji laughed, "Well, the chances are slim. I don't think grad students really go to this type of thing."
You sighed, "True... true. Well, thank you guys for the boost in confidence. It means a lot. You both look amazing too!"
"Well let's go! We don't want to be late." Angela chimed before grabbing your arm and dragging the both of you out the door.
