Christy Miller Volume III (part 1)
Christy is in class and has to write an essay with the topic, "A true friend is..." The only thing that can come to her mind is "Todd," even though Todd is apparently out of the picture ever since Christy dumped her piece of trash boyfriend Rick the Dick in the part I never got around to reviewing. Todd is in Hawaii trying out for the "world tour surfing team" because of course he is.
Christy decides to convince herself that she doesn't need a guy in her life. If only I was convinced that the book will actually end this way.
Christy goes to her friend Katie's sleepover, and is the only guest who shows up for some reason. They talk about the card Christy sent Todd in hopes of reconnecting and their hearts flutter. It somehow ends with Katie convincing Christie to sign up for the ski club.
Katie gets a boyfriend, and boyfriendless Christy battles jealousy and resentment. What????? the????? heck????? In the meantime, she decides she needs to be a missionary and there's a bunch of filler about that.
At last they leave for the ski trip! Katie and Christy start having drama half a page in. They split up, and Christy hangs out with the "rich girls" instead. I have no idea how she immediately determines that they're rich. She changes her restaurant order so that it will be the same as these girls she literally just met, because three books in, Christy is yet to have grown a spine.
The book has a typo at this point and it amuses me more than it should.
The girls learn how to ski in freezing cold snow surrounding by blinding sunlight. This sounds like my personal hell honestly. Christy and Katie make up and have a good time.
They find Vodka in the cabin where they're staying, and Christy thinks it's mouthwash because she's an idiot. Somehow it causes a crapload of drama again. I don't understand why Christy is such a crusader to make sure no one gets away with doing the wrong thing, like drinking Vodka, instead of just staying out of it.
Christy gets home from the ski trip and for some reason Rick the piece of crap boyfriend shows up. Basically he just stops by to say hi along with another friend. Christy has "mixed feelings" for him even though the guy was manipulative and emotionally controlling. But she also feels like she can let him go and have some closure.
Then Christy gets a mysterious package. She has to pay to pick it up for some bizarre reason. It's from Todd, who has mailed her a freaking coconut with a Bible verse written on it. Christy screams, because it means Todd is back in the picture.
End of part 1.
