"Cute Headcannon"- published April 19, 2015

About ten years after The Outsiders, Ponyboy was walking in a park. He saw two young boys who looked about eight or nine sitting on a park bench eating candy cigarettes. One boy, who was bigger than his friend, had blond hair and blue eyes and wore a brown leather jacket. His friend was a scrawny Hispanic kid with black eyes and silky black hair. He wore a jean jacket. Ponyboy walks up to them and asks them their names. The blond boy looks up at him and says, "I'm Danny and this is Jakob. May I ask why, mister?"

Because god forbid
Dally and Johnny's
reincarnations should
look or act any different
from their past selves,
or even have
names that don't sound
exactly like the old ones.

"You just look like some old friends of mine." Replies Ponyboy.

Ok. So Dally and
Johnny didn't look that
unique. Blond haired blue
eyed white boy and
generic 1960s brown
character. Pony probably
sees similar-looking
people every day. There's
no reason these kids
would stand out.

The scrawny kid then pipes up saying, "you kinda look familiar yourself, sir."

So this is implied
to be mysterious and
ethereal evidence
of reincarnation, but like,
I assume this is still
in Tulsa because it's not
specified here, in which case,
these kids have probably
seen Pony around town.

"Maybe I was your friend in another life." Ponyboy says just before turning around, smiling. He wanted to go tell his friends that he thinks he found Dally and Johnny's reincarnations.

Ok so I don't
have any issues with
what he said
because people say that
kind of stuff all
the time. But like,...?
Why go tell your
friends about these two
random kids at the
park. Would that not
rip open old wounds? I
mean it's clear Pony isn't over
it, so I assume the rest
of the gang isn't either.
Ten years is a long
time. They're probably
still recovering from
the shit that happened in the
book.
