Many centuries ago, around ancient times; magical rock rested on top of Mount Huagou. One day, a stiff breeze blew upon the rock and caused a fully formed monkey to burst forth from its stone face. Despite having just been born, the young monkey was already able to walk and speak.

This monkey would later on be known as Sun Wukong who went by many titles, most notably known as the Monkey King or the Great Sage Equal of Heaven who waged war against the gods and later on, was sealed under a rock by the Buddha for five hundred years until he was set free to be a body guard for a Buddhist monk who had to travel to India in order to bring back holy text and enlighten his countrymen.

Although he was known to be quite rebellious, angry, greedy, or even envious. His noble actions as well as dedication to the Buddha's teachings allowed him to reach enlightenment and put an end to his bad habits. That didn't stop him from being rebellious though as we know. Some time later, Sun Wukong made a choice that the Heavenly Court ultimately disagreed with, resulting in the Monkey King being incapacitated and his six senses being scattered around the world; never to be seen again for many centuries to come. Most believing him to be dead.

But the Monkey King has many layers of immortality and unbeknownst to plenty of others, the Monkey King would reincarnate as a young boy centuries later. A new tale for the Monkey King was going to begin.

. . .

Many years later. . .

We can now see that it is a modern day setting in Japan. A boy around the age of 17 with his classmates went on a trip to the museum for a summer trip. The boy had black spiky hair and wore a black and yellow tracksuit, he had hazel-like eyes and looked inwards with boredom as he listened to the receptionist go on and on about the history behind the many relics.

"And here, we have a very rare piece of architecture that is well taken care of, now a show of hands; who here knows of the monkey king?"

The receptionist would ask as many people in the class would raise their hands.

"Oh I know this one, that staff belongs to Sun Wukong right??? The Great Sage Equal of Heaven?" One student would ask.

The receptionist would nod.

"That's right, Sun Wukong was known for his rampage against heaven but also for his tale that people call the Journey to The West, where after being sealed by the Buddha for 500 years; he along with a few others were tasked with protecting a Buddhist monk in delivering holy scriptures."

As the receptionist explained the background behind the staff, Subaru would stare at it. The staff was a shiny dark red with golden bands on each end. The more he stared at it, the more he felt an odd but familiar connection to it, he didn't know why.

"Excuse me miss, but how do you know that this is the real thing? I mean for all we know, Sun Wukong is nothing more but a myth right?" A student who wore glasses would point out as the receptionist would explain.

"You have a point there kiddo, but it turns out after Wukong was supposedly taken out by the celestial court many years back, he wasn't seen for quite some time. No one knew if he was real or just a myth until historians found this staff deep within a mountain. They pointed out that it was extremely heavy, so heavy to the point that they needed extra help getting it all the way here; they couldn't even get it out of the ground so a piece of it came with it."

Another student would then ask another question.

"So just because it's extremely heavy makes you think that the monkey was real after all? I kind of find it hard to believe..."

"Well the legends say that Wukong was the only one creature who could wield the staff and had an immediate infinity to it." The receptionist would reply before continuing on with the tour.

"Now let's move on to the rest of the exhibits shall we? I'm sure you all want to see everything else we have to offer, yes?"

With that reply, the class would agree and follow the receptionist. Though Subaru would stay behind staring at the legendary staff that was said to belong to the monkey king himself.

"Sun Wukong huh? He sounds like a pretty interesting guy, I mean waging war against the heavens? He had to have some balls of steel to do that...though why is it that I feel...?"

"Subaru! What are you doing, come on before you get left behind!" Subaru's teacher would call out to him, snapping the teenager out of his thoughts as he turned around to see that the class had already moved on without him.

"Sorry sensei, I got lost in thought!"

Many hours later after the class got done with their tour through the museum; the students had dinner and soon went to bed. Although for Subaru, he couldn't sleep. The staff he saw in the museum plaguing his mind as he kept thinking about what the receptionist had said.

He then thought back to that feeling he felt deep within him the moment his eyes wandered upon it.

'That lady did say that it could be real but...there's just no way to know for sure unless I go there myself and sneak in-! No Subaru, you're thinking of something pretty stupid; but it's not like anyone is going to know right? Of course not, I'll be in and out.'

Resolving himself with what he was about to do, he carefully snuck out of his bed and put on his clothes he had on hours earlier. He made sure to grab his wallet and phone in case he needed to stop by somewhere and unsurprisingly, he felt the need to stop by a small store that had snacks he could buy. He bought himself two cups of ramen, some potato chips, and a soda. Once he paid for the items, he continued his way towards the museum.

When he got there, the entrance was being watched by a night guard, Subaru would grunt in annoyance.

"Oh come on man! I knew they'd be closed but I didn't think it'd be that early...! I'll have to distract the guard if I want to get in."

Subaru would then look around his surroundings and eventually found a rock, he got an idea. He quickly picked up the rock and through it a fair distance between the guard and an area that would keep the man occupied for a bit.

Once the rock made contact with the ground, the guard whipped his neck towards the direction the noise came from, and eventually left the post he was supposed to guard.

"Yes...!" Taking the chance he had, Subaru quietly sped-walked towards the entrance of the museum; trying his hardest to be stealth as he began to look for the staff he saw earlier. He walked past many exhibits until he finally saw the Monkey King's staff in all it's glory.

"When I look at it like this, it reminds me of those stories of King Arthur pulling out the sword out of the rock with how it's positioned."

As he walked closer towards the staff, the chinese markings began to glow one by one until he was close enough to grab it. The moment he touched it, a bright flash took over his vision and he was bombarded with a few visions.

He saw an individual with a third eye on his forehead stabbing a kneeling monkey before he scoffed.

"What does it matter if you become a Buddha? That headband has always been on your head."

The monkey soon began to chuckle before he looked up and glared at the man standing before him.

"Hehehehe....Keep those eyes wide open. Watch me rip it off...and break free!"

He even saw more moments between the two as it switched scenes, this time of the two fighting before the monkey decided to fly towards the mountains as he shape-shifted into a bird with the three-eyed man following suit,  it wouldn't be long before he was subdued and took a hit that led him crashing into a mountain.

As those visions came to an end, Subaru opened his eyes wide as he stared at the staff now in his hands. He understood now, it may have been two visions but those were enough to tell him what he needed to know for now.

"I'm the Monkey King...reincarnated. The Celestial Court didn't trust me, I fought with Erlang...and my senses were split from me. I need to get out of here before-!"

"Freeze! Stay right where you are!" A security guard would call out to the teen, startling Subaru as he turned around.

He nearly forgot what he came here to do. Normally he'd fight his way through this but due to how long it's been since he's actually wielded his staff, he felt a little rusty.

"Um....this isn't what it looks like?" Subaru tried to bullshit his way out of this as the security guard wasn't buying it.

"You're in a lot of trouble kid. Youth these days..."

The guard began walking towards Subaru with handcuffs at the ready. At this point, Subaru wasn't going to have any choice in the matter in regards to fighting. But as he braced himself, he heard a voice of a woman.

"I love you..."

"....!"

"Subaru-kun...I love you..."

Subaru's vision began to go hazy as he rubbed his eyes, and soon opening them to find himself in a completely new location. He wasn't in the museum anymore, but he did have his staff and the snacks he bought for himself beforehand.

"What the-?!"

He looked around in alarm, this was not his home.

He was in town of some kind that resembled an much earlier era of Japan or China. As he calmed down he began to think to himself.

'Could this be a new realm entirely? Or could this just be another world I was summoned to?'

Subaru had his fair share of adventures so this shouldn't really be any surprise to him, but the fact it happened after he just got some of his past memories back and finding out that he was indeed Sun Wukong but reincarnated made it stranger.

And that's when he's noticed the change within his body. For starters he felt a tail with black fur attached to his backside, swaying side to side. He supposed this was the result of him reuniting with his staff and receiving some of his past memories.

Subaru was no longer in Japan, he knew this. And to be honest, he was kind of excited to explore this new environment around him. Whatever challenges he'd come across, he would face head on. After all, he is the Great Sage Equal of Heaven.

This is the beginning of a new adventure for Subaru "Wukong" Natsuki.
