First Day in Lugunica
"...Frisk."
Subaru uttered the name of the girl he once liked. The conflicting feelings in himself battling to see who came out on top. This girl...this girl was his first human friend. Someone he thought he could trust, but then one day he wakes up back in the underground after finally coming back to the surface and out of nowhere, she just starts killing monsters left and right? His friends and family?
Just how the hell was he supposed to let that slide exactly? He can't just greet her like a normal person or even come to trust her...not after what she did. And then there was the unknown girl that laid next to Frisk. She had brown hair, a green and yellow sweater, and seemed to be unconscious just like Frisk was.
The boy sighed.
"I'll worry about those two later. For now though, I need to figure out where exactly I am. This isn't the underground...nor the surface...I mean...it could be, but the surface I remember never felt uh...medieval?"
Subaru turned to look out through one of the exits of the alleyway as he saw a carriage drive by.
"I need to figure out where I am exactly, the only problem is...those two."
Subaru stated to no one in particular as he turned to look at the two unconscious girls.
Subaru did want to go figure out where he was located currently but, he didn't know a damn soul in this place, the only people he knew at the moment was Frisk. And she was not really available at the moment, and the girl with the green sweater wasn't active either.
It was then, Subaru ultimately decided.
His choice was...
'Guess I'm staying in this alleyway until these two wake up. Maybe then, I can interrogate them for info on what happened before.'
Subaru thought to himself as he sat down against the wall, across from the two girls and waited. To past the time, he played around with his monster magic, and soul magic for a bit before he heard some grunts coming from the two. As they regained their consciousness, Subaru didn't say anything, he was going to give them sometime to realize their surroundings before doing anything.
"Mmmm...w-where am I? This isn't the ruins..."
The girl in the light blue sweater with purple stripes known as Frisk uttered as she looked around.
"I...don't know Frisk."
The pacifist opened her usually closed eyes in shock as she heard the voice of one of her companions that no one else could see but her, during her journey.
"Chara?! Y-You're alive?!"
Frisk turned around to see the ghost physically alive, breathing, and sitting next to her.
"Frisk...? What are you talking about? I'm dead-!"
The girl named Chara felt something was off while cutting herself off mid-sentence. She...felt...the ground? She actually felt something other than phasing through it? She wasn't a spirit anymore?
She looked at her hands.
'I-I'm alive?! How?! T-This never happened during a reset before! This...was this even a reset? No...maybe it was but...something probably interfered...with Frisk's reset...'
"Frisk, we need to talk-!"
"Are you two done yet?"
"!!!!"
The two human females turned to the source of the voice.
"S-Subaru...?"
Frisk uttered.
"That's my name, don't wear it out."
Subaru replied as he looked up with a glare. His scary eyes didn't really help either.
"S-Subaru, why are you giving us that look?"
Frisk asked while she sweated a bit along with Chara. They were both thinking of the possibility of Subaru being one of the few people aware of...the resets or about the player.
"Really? You're going to act like you didn't kill my family left and right? You're gonna act like you just didn't slaughter my friends and family like a bunch of fucking animals? You're going to act like you didn't commit GENOCIDE?!"
Subaru couldn't hold his anger back anymore, he used blue magic on both of the girls and pinned them to the walls.
The two girls moaned and grunted in pain as Subaru held their souls in place.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't just kill you right here. Right now."
Subaru demanded, his right eye glowing purple as it was the only thing to be seen from his shadowed face.
It reminded the girls of Sans...right...Subaru was his and Papyrus's brother wasn't he? It made sense. Though humans shouldn't be able to use monster magic so how was Subaru able to? Not like they were in any position to ask questions themselves.
"Going once, going twice...!"
"W-Wait! We'll explain everything! J-Just put us down!"
Frisk exclaimed in a panic. She knew Subaru was losing his patience, and to be honest, she never really seen Subaru act like that, let alone angry. It...made her feel her sins crawling on her back, the same feeling she had when facing Sans back in the judgement hall.
". . .Tch! You better not be wasting my time."
Subaru uttered as he let them go. As he watched them regain their bearings, he waited for their explanation.
"It...It all started back when I first fell into the underground, after I met Toriel and your two brothers, Undyne, Alyphys, Mettaton, and finally...Asgore. Of course, we all know that the monsters managed to go to the surface in the end but..."
Frisk couldn't finish her sentence, the guilt she has was unbearable.
"She did a RESET."
Chara stated.
"Reset? What the hell is a reset?"
Subaru asked in confusion.
Chara sighed.
"The power to reshape the world...Purely by your own determination. The ability to play God. The ability to SAVE. That's what reset is, the power to manipulate the timelines. Depending on how high your determination is, then you can have the ability to SAVE, LOAD, or RESET."
"Wait a sec...the way you're talking makes it sound as if our world is nothing more but like a video game!"
Subaru exclaimed.
"For us...no. But for the PLAYER. Yes."
"Player?"
"Yes...you see. Most of Frisk's actions...her killing the monsters. Your friends and family. It...wasn't really her choice."
". . .What?"
Subaru looked at Chara as he stood there, processing what she just said.
"Wasn't her choice? WASN'T HER CHOICE?! SHE HAD A FUCKING CHOICE!"
The boy used his blue magic to bring Chara closer to him to where their faces we're literally almost touching.
"SHE HAD A CHOICE OF CHOOSING IF SHE WANTED TO KILL MY MOM AND MY BROTHERS! SHE HAD A CHOICE OF CHOOSING IF SHE WANTED TO ERADICATE ALL OF THE UNDERGROUND TO NOTHING BUT MONSTER DUST! WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE DIDN'T HAVE A FUCKING CHOICE?!"
Subaru exclaimed in understandable outrage.
"I mean, the PLAYER is the one controlling Frisk."
Chara stated as calmly as possible."
"!!!!"
"The PLAYER controls every action Frisk makes. They just string her along as if a puppet she was. She never had a choice."
Subaru let go of her soul as Chara fell back onto the ground.
"Y-You're kidding..."
"Do I look like I'm joking?"
Subaru looked at Chara's eyes...she was not fucking around. This whole time, there was just this...other being who saw their world as a plaything...like a video game. And in this situation, Frisk was probably the protagonist since this PLAYER or whatever was the one controlling her this whole time.
The poor boy feel to his knees from the shock of it all.
"So...does this PLAYER have any influence over Frisk currently?"
Subaru asked as he turned his attention to Frisk.
"N-No...I don't feel any influence. I feel...free for once? No...I feel like I'm my own person, I can decide what I want to do myself, my actions, my choices, the things I wanna do in life. The PLAYER no longer has any influence over me."
Frisk felt...relieved. But also happy, she wouldn't have to be controlled to just RESET and SAVE. Now...she could do that whenever she wanted. Of course, RESET was only for emergencies, but that wasn't going to stop her from using SAVE just in case.
As Subaru looked down processing this. One hand, he saw Frisk slaughter every monster she came across...but now that the truth had been revealed...he didn't know how to feel. Guilty for letting it happen in the first place? Guilty for being rough with her right after she woke up? Or should he be angry at her for not telling him sooner? Or angry at himself for not trying to stop Frisk before she killed her first monster?
He honestly didn't know.
Frisk seeing the state Subaru was in, began to walk towards him. All the while Chara was watching this all go down. She figured she'd give the two their moment, after all, she actually did know who Subaru was. All the way back to when he fell down into the underground. And...she had to admit, he was different from other humans. The way he interacted with monsters and Frisk throughout her journey told her that much. She can see why Frisk developed feelings for him during it, and...herself as well. Even if she wouldn't admit it.
As Frisk stood in front of him and crouched down to his level, she gently grabbed his face and lifted it to where he was looking at her.
"Subaru...I know that this is all...a lot to process, believe me, I know. But I promise you...I never wanted to hurt you nor the monsters...and if I have to prove it you by any means necessary, then I will do it."
She was determined to prove that Subaru could trust her and Chara. After all, at this point, they were all they had.
". . .B-But-!"
"I swear on my soul that I won't. The player no longer has any influence here. I can and will make my own choices. And I don't want to hurt nor kill monsters. And using RESET isn't on my agenda either unless I absolutely have to."
Frisk sternly cut him off as he was silently processing her words. Until he suddenly hugged her, catching the girl off guard as her cheeks gained a light pink hue, but she kept herself under control.
". . .I can tell you really mean it. So. . .it'll take a bit. But I'll trust you. After all, you're the first human friend I ever made. So I wanna believe there's food in everyone."
'It's what Papyrus would do...right?'
Subaru thought as he closed his eyes and smiled at the memory of his skeleton brother.
All the while Frisk was happy that Subaru managed to forgive her. And Chara? Well, she had a small smile on her face but she felt a little jealous.
After they had their moment, they had to come up with a plan. Obviously, they were in unfamiliar territory, so they would have to start asking around and gathering info while being as discreet as possible. As they all walked out the alleyway, they were greeted by...something you'd think of when the word 'fantasy' popped in your head.
There were carriages being pulled by giant lizards, people with animal features, an unknown written language, and things just looked very medieval.
"What the hell is this?"
Chara asked in shock.
"I...I don't know. Is this the result of the RESET?"
Frisk asked.
"We...need to figure out where we are. Who knows where everyone else is."
The two girls nodded at that statement and the group proceeded to walk down the street. Ignoring the strange looks they were getting.
"Hey, you three."
"?"
The three determined humans came to stop as they turned to see a guy tending to a ship vendor full of apples.
"Those are some weird clothes you're wearing. Are you three foreigners?"
The man asked.
"Uh...yeah...do you happen to know where-mmmmph?!"
Chara slapped her hand over his mouth.
"S-Sorry, what he means is. Do you know where we are exactly?"
Frisk kindly asked the man.
"You're currently in the kingdom of Lugunica kid."
'Lugunica? We really are in another world...'
"Can you tell me what those are?"
Frisk pointed to the apples.
"Those are appas."
'Yep, we're in a different world.'
"Do you want to buy one?"
The man grabbed an appa as he prepared to give it to her.
"I'll have to kindly decline sir. I don't have any money, or well...none of us do. But one day, we'll come back and buy some."
Frisk smiled at the man.
"That's quite alright young lady. Next time, just have money."
"We will, have a good day sir."
Frisk waved at the man while Chara dragged away the struggling Subaru.
"You as well kid!"
The group, continued exploring their new environment. They nearly walked into a bar that was only for demihumans, and Chara nearly killed one. Subaru nearly walked into the woman's restroom had Frisk and Chara not stop him, since they saw a female walk out while Subaru somehow didn't.
Now, they were back in the alleyway. They were just talking about their next plan of action now that they had the info they needed.
"I for one, think we should look for the other monsters. If we were randomly transported here during that RESET. Then the others must be here as well."
"Mhm! I agree with Subaru!"
Frisk stated eagerly.
"Aren't you just saying that because you-?!"
Chara was interrupted with a hand being slapped against her mouth to shut her up.
"Now Chara, we don't wanna go around exposing each other's secrets now do we?"
Frisk asked, a gentle smile on her face. But you could clearly see a very pissed off tick mark forming on her head. It scared the hell out of Subaru as he sat there and watched.
"A-Anyway, we need to figure out who exactly brought us to this world and why. I want answers, and we aren't going to get any by standing around and doing nothing."
As the boy proceeded to stand up, he heard three unknown voices.
"Are you three done talking to yourselves? About damn time!"
A skinny guy around their height snickered. He had chains all over his body and he outright looked like he just got out of prison. Standing on his left and right sides was a very short guy with a bowl cut who had an unfriendly smile. And a purple haired tanned man.
The trio in general was blocking the path to the alleyway. Looking very pleased with easy targets.
Or so they thought.
"If you don't wanna get hurt, cough up everything you got!"
The boy sighed as the two girls got up and stood behind him.
'Only our first day and we're already getting into trouble. Seriously, I just wanna go home and sleep.'
The boy thought to himself as he was planning on attempting to talk his way out of this situation. He wasn't resorting to violence yet. That was until one of them made another comment that made Frisk and Chara reel back in disgust, and Subaru to feel...anger...for some reason.
"And while you're at it, hand over the girls as well! We'll take good care of them!"
The tanned one said.
"Ugh! Disgusting bastards!"
Chara exclaimed with a face mixed with fury and disgust. This is exactly why she hated humanity. If it were up to her, she would have killed these useless piles of shit already. After all, in this world or any world in general, it's kill or be killed.
But Subaru was quick enough to react. A purple aura surrounding his right eye as it glowed purple, sending chills down the spines of the three thugs.
"And here I was, trying to talk my way out of this. But it seems, you three are in for a bad time."
A few bones were summoned in the air, except the bottom end was carved to be very sharp. As they were launched towards the trio, they were stopped.
Did the bones impale them? No.
It stopped mere inches away from their lower regions. Further scaring the hell out of them.
"You best get the hell out of here before I change my mind. And if I see you three trying to do this shit again, you will not like it. Do you understand?"
Subaru asked, his tone stern and fierce.
"Y-Y-Yes sir! W-W-We're so sorry!"
The group exclaimed at the same time as they booked it out of the alleyway. All the while, Frisk and Chara watched as they admired the boy, the feelings they felt during their time in the underground in the process of blooming.
"T-Thanks Subaru."
"It's no problem Frisk. No problem at all. Now let's hurry up and-!"
Another voice interrupted Subaru once again as the boy groaned in annoyance.
As the group turned around, they saw a blond girl speeding towards them.
"Move out the way!"
She quickly demanded while getting ready to jump.
As the group complied with the girl's wishes. She platformed off of the walls and onto the rooftop and simply vanished.
"Hm, she must've been in a hurry."
"It's not our concern anyway, let's just get out of here already."
Chara uttered, annoyed by the situation.
"Yeah, we really should...What? Wait a sec, something isn't right."
Subaru began to check his pockets. He had everything except one thing.
". . .My locket."
He remembered when the girl ran past them.
That locket...was very dear to him. It was one of the few things his late mother gave to him before that unfortunate accident.
"That little brat stole my locket!"
Subaru was livid. He was going to find that thief.
"S-Subaru, calm down. We'll find that girl and your locket. We just need to figure out where she went."
Frisk stated as she consoled her friend.
"Exactly, she couldn't have gone far anyway. If we hurry up then maybe-!"
"Stop right where you are villains!"
The three internally sighed. This day was just getting weirder and weirder by the second.
Standing in front of them, a girl stood in front of them. Her most prominent feature, being her silver hair. Not to mention, the way she dressed basically told the three humans that this girl was rich.
"If you hand over my insignia then I assure you, no harm will be done to any of you three."
The silver haired woman stated with a tone of authority.
'Wait a damn minute. . .this is a misunderstanding!'
Subaru thought in alarm as he looked at the woman in front of him.
"Look lady, we don't have whatever your insignia is, if you're looking for who took it. Then maybe go after that blond kid that ran ahead."
Chara stated nonchalantly and looked at the girl with indifference.
"Y-Yeah! The person you're probably looking for was that blond kid that ran ahead already!"
Frisk added.
As the woman stiff and there and processed the words, she instantly realized that she accused the wrong people.
"D-Did I go the wrong way?!"
As the girl asked her question to no one in particular, the group of three looked at her in silence.
Of course Subaru realized a few things, if the kid that ran past them was the person she was looking for, then they both had a common enemy. After all, that blond brat took something that belonged to him as well.
'And. . .it looked like that girl came from. . .a more. . .less populated area in this damn place.'
Subaru thought to himself as he already had an answer to this whole solution.
"Hey um. . .miss?"
Subaru gained the woman's attention.
"It seems you and I have a common enemy. You see, your thief also stole something from me as well. And if we hurry, then we can both get what we want and get it over with. What do ya say?"
Subaru stated as the woman silently pondered his offer for a few seconds before nodding. Now, we could see the group of 4 walking around the capital.
"So what are your names?"
The silver haired woman asked in curiosity.
"My name is Subaru Natsuki, I'm broke and clueless, and I have no idea where I am."
Subaru introduced himself as Chara slapped his head and Frisk giggled.
"Idiot, my name is Chara."
"And my name is Frisk."
The woman nodded as she took a moment.
"Frisk, Chara, and Subaru. It's nice to meet you."
"What about you? What's your name?"
Subaru asked.
"Ah. . .my name. . .is Satella. Just Satella."
The girl hesitated as she told the three that was supposedly her name. Of course they could tell she was hiding something but that would be for something to handle later.
As they continued with what they were doing, they ran into a lost child that got sloppy up from her mother. "Satella" tried offering help to the small child, but the child cried even more when she saw her. It was then that Subaru took it upon himself to calm the girl down and used some of his magic to help the process. Allowing the three ladies to see Subaru's more kinder side, though Frisk and Chara have already seen it back in the underground.
Long story short, they managed to reunite the girl with her mom and surprisingly, her father. Who turned out to be the appa seller they met earlier.
Now, we can see the group in a more less populated area, the reason? Because the man gave them the info they needed, which gave more validity to Subaru's earlier statement about the thief residing in a more less populated area.
That area being the slums. They asked around and some people were kind enough to give them the directions to the loot house, while there were many other people giving nasty looks to "Satella".
And it went unnoticed by the three humans, who were trying to figure out why they were glaring at her like that. But once again, that would have to wait since they were now in front of the loot house.
"Ok, we're here. Now what?"
Subaru asked.
"We get your locket back and help Satella get her insignia back. After that, well. . .I guess we haven't thought that far ahead. But we do need a place to go."
Frisk rubbed her head as Emilia nodded to the pacifist's words.
"I still don't understand why I need to negotiate for something that was stolen from me."
"I don't plan on negotiating, I just want my locket back."
Without waisting time, Subaru kicked open the doors, shocking the duo of two. The blond thief from earlier, and a big old giant.
"W-W-What the hell?! How did you find me so quickly?!"
"Don't worry about it, but I do believe you have something that belongs to me and this lady here."
Subaru replied with his hands in his pocket as "Satella", Frisk, and Chara walked in. And without a second to waste, icicles were already formed in the air, pointing at the duo.
"I'm only going to say this once, give me back my insignia, it's very important to me."
"Satella" demanded with a tone of authority. The first day in this new world and it looks like things are already starting to get interesting at least. All Subaru knew was that, something was going to go wrong someway shape or form during this altercation. He really needed sleep.
TO BE CONTINUED.
