(James, Thalia's ex)

Re-born, chapter 3

Thalia was taking a sip from her beer when she felt someone sit next to her. She didn't have to raise her head to see who it was. She knew it was James, as she couldn't miss his perfume anywhere even through a crowd of people. However, she was now aware that every human or creature had their own natural scent and she picked up James's scent easily, memorizing it.

"Um hi..."

His voice sounded different, she knew it wasn't but felt like it. She really missed him though, so she looked up at him and gave a weak smile before turning around again.

"I..." Thalia looked at him but nothing else came out of his mouth so she got on her feet and was about to leave when he grabbed her wrist and she shot him a glare.

"Sorry...I just...you remind me of someone...so much that I just thought...Never mind"

Thalia could see he was broken but she didn't trust her voice so she just sat back and looked at him intently willing him to speak more.

"You remind me of my girlfriend, well my dead ex girlfriend" he let out a pained chuckle and took a sip of his brandy.

"Same hair, same lips, same eyes..." he paused "same almond shape eyes but not the same color" he drank more and looked at her.

"I was such a jerk! I left her when she most needed me...I might be the reason she's dead and it's killing me".

Thalia was still silent but she was staring in the distance remembering everything, too vividly for her taste. She was getting angry and frustrated and didn't know if she could control her anger.

"She was so nice...so great and she was the only one who really cared for me..."

"Yet you let her down" she spat out getting on her feet "maybe you should have died instead!" she said and stormed out.

She bumped into someone's chest. He held her in place and as she was this close, she knew it was Nathaniel and didn't want to move. She seemed to relax with his closeness so she leaned into him burying her face in his strong defined chest and let a few tears escape her eyes. He held her tighter to comfort her.

"I've been a bitch to him" she shook her head feeling bad.

"It's okay, I'll help you control your anger, I'll teach you how..."

"Nathaniel...I hurt him! I wished he was the one who died!" Thalia pulled away and looked at him pouting.

"Come on, let's get back inside and you'll apologize to him, can you do that?"

She nodded and went back in; she saw him crying and drinking she looked back at Nate who was just behind her "compel him to forget you hurt him".

"Huh?"

"You need to learn how to control human minds and this is your opportunity."

"H...how do I do that?"

"You look at him straight in the eyes and focus in entering his mind, once you feel the pull from inside his head you order him to forget what just happened"

She wasn't sure it would work but she nodded and made her way to him.

"I'm sorry," she whispered and he looked up at her.

"Leave me alone" he looked away.

He sounded like a little boy but she couldn't blame him. She took a deep breath and cupped his face; once he looked at her, she captured his gaze.

"You will forget you saw me and forget everything related to me. But you'll never forget the way you hurt Thalia, the fragile human who used to love you."

When he nodded, she stepped aside and walked toward Nathaniel feeling stronger and more confident.

They were walking in town when Nathaniel stopped in front of his red car, their walk was silent but it was a comfortable silence, which made Thalia smile. She knew she could be herself when she was around him.

"How did you find me Nathaniel?"

"I'm your creator Thalia; I'll always be able to find you. But honestly I wasn't looking for you I just wanted to have a drink."

"So it's like a GPS?" she smiled and elbowed him playfully.

"No we have a mind link" he laughed slightly and looked at her "are you ready to leave your past behind and come live with me instead of staying in the woods?"

"Wow! Already asking me to move in? How quick" she smiled and sat on the hood of his car.

He laughed at how her mood had shifted "see? I just met you and can't live without you, you won't let me die would you?" he pouted playfully "you'll come right?"

"Alright alright but we will take things slow!"

They both laughed, "come on, I bet you want a hot shower in a real bathroom".

Thalia grinned.

"I sure do, but can we get my stuff from the cave?"

"Sure come on".

Next morning, both Vampires were sitting in the huge backyard of Nathaniel's mansion. They sat in silence, Nathaniel reading the newspapers and Thalia looking at a lion that was getting near the back gates. She could hear his blood pumping through his veins and his heart beating hard. She licked her lips, the predatory look appearing on her face, which caught Nathaniel's attention. He cleared his throat.

Thalia snapped out of it and looked at him questioningly "what?"

"That's my lion, you can't eat him," he stated before getting back to his papers.

She groaned and crossed her arms "why would you have loose lions on your property?"

"It keeps the humans away" he smirked and winked.

Thalia looked around "I'm bored!"

He sighed and put the papers down "what do you want to do?"

"Go to town?" she smiled.

"Why?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Do you think I should...you know talk to my mom?"

"No way!" he was on his feet in a blink of an eye. "You can't even think of exposing us! I told you, you have to leave your past behind!"

"Nathaniel! Please..."

"Will you compel her afterwards?"

Thalia sighed but smiled as an idea occurred to her.

"You know what? I'm going to start over and get a job...where my mom works" she grinned "like that I'll be close to her and I won't have to tell her".

He seemed to think about it. "We are vampires...we don't work".

"I'll break that rule!"

She run up the room he gave her and got dressed, she took some money from her savings she had brought from her house the other night. As she was about to leave the room she saw Nathaniel looking at her questioningly.

"How are you even going to get that job? No degrees? No ID? Remember?"

She smiled "well good thing my creator is a good teacher and he taught me how to use compulsion" she winked and pecked his lips playfully before disappearing.

She went to a few stores and got a proper outfit for the job she would certainly have. It was easy to persuade the secretary to let her in the boss's office. It was even easier to convince the man to give her the job. She didn't even have to use compulsion...only when it came to signing the papers, which she didn't have, she compelled him.Thalia walked to her new desk but kept looking around for her mother who was nowhere to be seen. She waited a bit before going to the front desk.

"Is Miss Eva here today?" she asked the receptionist.

"No Dear, Eva hasn't come since she lost her daughter, poor woman she has a lot to deal with. She's actually trying to find out what made her daughter end her own life" she shook her head.

Thalia nodded and just walked out the firm and walked to her house, which was far but she didn't care. She ran across Ally. She was so mad right now...they all left her... they caused this. They caused pain to her mother; she couldn't forgive that.Thalia stood in front of her and smiled the way she usually did when she and Ally were about to do something crazy. This might have caught Ally's attention because she froze and looked at Thalia for a few moments before walking away. However, Thalia wasn't going to let her go like that, she walked to her and blocked her way.

"Hey there" she smiled devilishly.

"H...hi" Ally stumbled and looked at the girl n front of her.

"Is something wrong sweetie?" she pouted a bit "you look pale...You didn't see a ghost now did you?" she asked teasingly.

"I..I'm f..Fine. Thanks" Ally couldn't stop staring she really looked like her friend but her eyes were different.

"Who are you? I never saw you here before."

Thalia smiled, "I'm Tatiana...I'm the lost daughter of Eva Thunders."

This sent a jolt to Ally "huh? Eva thunders have one daughter... and she's gone! Stop saying things like that!"

"Aren't you too happy my sister is gone" she shook her head "well it was nice chatting with you but...my mother is in deep grief and she needs me." she walked to her house frustrated and knocked on the door.

Eva answered it and froze "Thalia?" she shook her head "ho..how?"

"No mom...it's me Tatiana".

She felt bad for lying, but wanted her mom to be okay she held her face and held her gaze.

"I'm Tatiana, the lost daughter you never told anyone about. I'm Thalia's twin and I came back when I finally found you."

Her mom snapped out of her haze "Tatiana!" she hugged her long lost daughter too happy to see her again. She let her in and closed the door securely behind her.

Nathaniel was on the other side of the street looking at them. He shook his head wishing he never taught her how to do that. He wasn't sure it would harm anyone but he was afraid Thalia would be drowned in her need of vengeance once again. The encounter she had with her friend told a lot about her intentions. Nathaniel had met vampires like her before in his past and he could already tell that her next step was getting back to school.
