Thalia is a seventeen years old girl who had everything any teenage girl would dream to have. She was popular, Captain of the girls lacrosse team, had a perfect boyfriend and great friends; or so she thought.
She embraced life; was loved by all her classmates, popular or not, and returned that feeling eagerly. She was always saying that she couldn't wish for a better life. Even though she didn't know her father and only lived with her mother.
However, her life is about to change.
It was prom day. Thalia and her two best friends still hadn't got their dresses. They all went to the mall together. The three girls were practically inseparable, they did everything together and James, Thalia's boyfriend always called them the three musketeers.
Thalia came out of the changing room grinning at her two friends. Ally had a tall slender figure, auburn hair that reached her shoulders, her features were small and she was very cute. She was standing next to wracks of dresses trying to find a good one for her friend Thalia. On the other hand, Karly looked like the typical popular girl. Her blonde hair reached her waist, her blue eyes were captivating and her body was perfect.
Thalia knew her friend had some kind of crush on James, but she didn't care. Yeah I don't care! It's not as if I can't compete with that Greek Goddess sitting over there, as she owned the place! Oh God who am I kidding! Karly could step on me with her beauty and body. It doesn't matter though, James loves me and I trust him! Thalia blushed as she thought about James, remembering the fact that she was going to give herself to him tonight. She was sure about it now and thought it was worth the wait.
"So? What do you think?" she asked them looking back and forth finally getting their attention.
"I think James is going to love it!" Ally squealed and looked at Karly "Don't you think?"
Karly rolled her eyes and got up looking around as if she was bored "I think you can find another one that wouldn't show your belly fat."
Ally shot her a glare and shook her head "Don't listen to her she's just jealous that your dress is nicer than hers!"
Thalia chuckled "I know, my belly is flat and this dress is just perfect!" Thalia walked back to the changing room rolling her eyes. Why does she always have to sound mean? She's like a sister to me and yet she talks to me like I'm nothing.
Later that evening, James came to pick Thalia up; he was wearing a nice grey and white tuxedo and holding Thalia's corsage in his hands. Eva, Thalia's mom opened the door and greeted him.
"Good evening James, you look good" she smiled pecking him on the cheek.
"Thank you Mrs Thunders, is Thalia ready?"
"Yes, she's on her way down, Come on in so I can take a picture of you two" Eva smiled letting him in and closing the door.
Thalia looked at her reflection one more time making sure that she looked good. She took in a deep breath and exhaled it before walking out of her room and making her way to the stairs. She smiled as she saw James standing with her mom talking; he looked handsome and attractive. She was afraid to take one more step and trip down. He can't be that handsome! It should be illegal!
As she made her way down the stairs, James looked up and his mouth almost dropped to the floor.
Aha! Just the reaction I wanted to see! Thalia thought as she felt even more confident and descended the stairs faster to reach him and hug him. That's all she wanted, to be in his arms and feel his love.
James heard Mrs. Thunders clear her throat and closed his mouth a bit embarrassed. He looked at how beautiful his girlfriend was, she could pass for a princess easily with her long blue dress that matched the color of her eyes, and the dress hugged her body in the right places emphasizing her nice curves. She had her hair curled and brought to the side, clipped with a butterfly pin. James was practically drooling.
"Stop drooling baby" Thalia smirked and looked him up and down "Are you sure you didn't get any flies in your mouth?" she laughed as she saw how uncomfortable he grew, yet he still looked mesmerized by her.
"Thalia, you look gorgeous! I love your dress and your hair and..." he realized they weren't alone and smiled. "I'm glad I got you a corsage that matches your eyes, now it also matches your dress" He said nervously shifting his weight on his other foot.
Thalia smiled and got closer to him, she extended her hand so he could put it on "Thank you baby, you look great" She blushed and kissed his cheek.
Their prom was held in one of the fanciest hotels in town, and James kept rambling on the fact that he got them a room so they could finally take their relation to the next level. Thalia thought she was ready. But she wasn't, not yet. She didn't want to upset him and ruin the party by telling him this so she tried to avoid the subject. All she wanted was James to be happy and proud that she was his girlfriend and not some other bimbo.
They danced and had fun for about an hour and a half before James started growing impatient. He took her to their room and once the door locked, he kissed her gently. Thalia enjoyed the kiss, it was passionate and soft at first but got deeper as his tongue looked for entrance. She parted her lips hesitantly and allowed their tongues to dance together whilst James unzipped her dress and let it fall to the tiled floor. Thalia gasped as he pushed her on the bed and got on top of her, her heart started racing and her breathing hardened.
That's it! Thalia thought, I don't want this! Her thoughts were racing and she couldn't move she felt paralyzed. She knew most girls her age had already done it, even Ally had sex before, but she wasn't like them. Her mother raised her in some sort of way that made her look at this matter from a different angle. It was very important for her to do it with 'the one'. She loved James, more than anyone, but she wasn't sure he was the one, and now more than ever.
Thalia noticed that James didn't even realize she was having a panic attack; in fact, he kept kissing and touching her till she couldn't take it anymore and pushed him away. She staggered on her feet and put back her dress on zipping it up. She had tears in her eyes and didn't know what to say. Trembling so much, she couldn't even move and was worried of what he would say, but she hoped he would understand.
"Thalia you promised!"
"I'm not ready, I'm sorry" she blurted out a bit chocked at his reaction. She thought he would understand. She wanted him to understand.
"It's always the same thing! It's the third time we go through this! I've had enough! I'm taking you home". He grabbed his keys and stormed out of the room leaving her behind.
She followed him hurriedly and got in the car. The ride back to her house was silent and awkward and Thalia wanted nothing more than to get home and crawl in bed to cry. He pulled in her driveway and said nothing. She looked at him for a moment and without even saying goodbye walked inside the house and ran to her room.
Thalia cried until she felt better. She looked at the mirror in front of her and smiled thinking of James, she stood in front of her full length mirror and stripped her clothes admiring her body. Without really thinking, she took her phone and snapped a few pictures of her nakedness then lay in bed and chose two of the pictures. She thought for a moment and finally made up her mind, she sent him the pictures and text him 'I'm ready'. Thalia didn't give much thinking to this, she just wanted him to cool down and would do everything to have him back even if it meant losing her V-card. While waiting for his reply that she never received, Thalia fell asleep clutching at her phone.
To her surprise, when she went to school the next day, everyone was looking at her and whispering. She was aware they were gossiping about her but couldn't understand why. Now what! What have I done? Do they know what I did? Many thoughts run through her mind confusing her and stressing her. She saw her friend Ally standing by the lockers and immediately went to her.
"Ally!! Hi! What's wrong?" Ally said nothing and gave her a strange look that confused Thalia even more "Why are you looking at me like that? And why are they all whispering about me?"
"Thalia I'm sorry" Ally whispered and gave her her phone so she could see her picture. "I don't know how or who did this but...every single student received it" Ally looked down feeling bad for her friend.
"But..but how? I only sent it to James!" Thalia's feet threatened to give up. She leaned on the lockers looking at the floor shaking her head. She couldn't believe this was happening to her of all people. Tears pricked her eyes and all she wished for at that precise moment was that the ground split up and swallow her. She was breaking and going insane when Ally said the most chocking thing she ever heard from her friend.
"Maybe he forwarded it? I don't know Thalia"
Thalia shook her head; it can't be him! He couldn't have done this to me! James loves me, he does. Doesn't he? Thalia ran to the bathroom and hid in a cubicle crying her eyes out. That can't be happening! What is my mom going to think?
When she calmed down, Thalia went to find James but he refused to talk to her and he yelled in her face and kept insulting her. He hurt her and made her feel so low and wanting to disappear.
"You refuse to have sex with me but you can simply send your picture to everyone? That is pretty messed up Thalia! We're over!"
"James I swear I sent it to you, only you!" Thalia was clinging to him, gripping at his shirt while crying pleading him to believe her.
"I didn't get it Thalia! Karly showed it to me this morning!"
Thalia looked at Karly who was smirking behind him and shaking her head while James looked at her in disgust. Her whole world shattered, He gave up on me for her? How didn't he get the picture and she did? She looked at them accusingly.
"Were you two together last night?" her voice came out in a barely audible whisper.
"Even if we were, why do you care? Now go try and find a solution to your issue and leave James alone!" Karly snarled and linked her hand with his.
Thalia was seeing everything in black. She had violent images appear in her mind, images of her jumping on Karly and erasing that slutty smirk of hers from her face. At this moment she didn't recognize herself. She was never the violent kind, but killing Karly was all she wanted to do. Lost in her thoughts and visions, the broken girl didn't realize James and Karly had left her standing there by her own.
That day, Thalia's life took a different turn. She had no more friends, no one to talk to, even Ally had new friends now leaving Thalia not even trying to help her. It was a chock for her and she didn't know how to face it alone. She couldn't believe her body has been seen by all the students on campus, but what was killing her the most was that her 'friends' were no longer here. After all they've been through together; they just forgot her and threw her to the oblivion. It wasn't easy for her, days passed and she kept losing weight, she had a feeling that she was soon going to disappear into thin air. She actually wished it would happen. It would be better than to live in such embarrassment.
One morning she went to the school's bathroom to wash her face before her classes started. She stood in front of the mirror shocked by what she saw. She wasn't shocked by her fading reflection but by what was next to it. She reached a finger to touch the red writings on the mirror, the texture was smooth and sticky revealing it was lipstick. She kept reading over and over the words written all over the huge mirror. 'Thalia is a slut' or 'the whore Thalia' and it just broke her even more. Thalia opened her eyes and took tissues she wet them and started cleaning the mirror fast while crying and sobbing. She kept rubbing and rubbing even when the mirror got clean. She rubbed the smooth cold surface till she collapsed on the floor and curled in a ball. Above all that she had lost her place in the lacrosse team, but she couldn't care less anymore.
Three weeks passed and her soul started to fade away she couldn't take it; she wasn't able to continue like that with no virtue and no self-respect. It made her do the most stupid thing on earth...
She sat on the floor looking at the blade in front of her, she took it and smiled "you know how I feel don't you?" she giggled. Thalia was feeling numb, or was she feeling at all? She stopped feeling anything a while ago and all she could picture was throwing herself over a cliff. She kept thinking it was absurd and she was strong enough to avoid this pitiful end, but now she felt that it was the best thing that could happen to her. Thalia reached out, took her blade in one hand, and kept gazing at it. Her mind was set and nothing could change it now. She just wanted it to be special, she wanted to feel the pain leave her body and she had to find the best way to do it.
Thalia walked to her closet and took out her white summer dress, her favorite; it was also James's favorite. She cringed at the thought of James and held on to her stomach feeling that everything she ate this morning was making its way up. When the uneasy feeling left her, she stripped her clothes and put on the dress. She could feel the material caress her skin gently, making her feel special; she twirled around and fell back on her bed laughing as if she was the happiest girl on earth.
"Finally, I'll get rid of that bitterness in my heart, finally the day has come. No more sorrows, no more pain". She smiled and gently pressed the blade on her throat, trailing it down to her collarbone, cutting her flesh, feeling something hot tickle her skin. The scent of her blood hit her nostrils and made her dizzy. She had always hated seeing or smelling blood. But today it felt perfect, it felt the right thing to do. She pressed the blade even deeper before cutting both wrists. Her white dress was now blood red, sticking to her body hugging her hips and clinging to her as if holding to dear life.
Thalia felt her soul leave her body as she looked at her blade in her hand and kept fighting the urge to close her eyes. Her last words left her lips in a whisper.
"So shiny, so bright
With you, no need to fight
So sharp, so hard
You are my only guard
When you make me bleed
Your deepest desire I feed
My one and only friend
Only you can understand
My one and only blade
With you I'm not afraid
Every touch breaks a chain
End of sorrow, no more pain"
With that last whisper, she closed her eyes and finally found peace.
