New Best Friend (AustinCreasy)

It was a late night when Adaar found the home of the necromancer named Aiko.

Adaar kicked down the door of the long thin house and stepped inside to a dark narrow hallway. "Wait by the door." Adaar said to Hvitur. Adaar gripped his axe in both hands as he walked past a doorway on his right with moonlight pouring into the hallway he was standing in. As Adaar approached another door on the right he felt movement on his foot.

Looking down Adaar saw a rat sitting on his boot. Adaar picked up the rat and held it in the moonlight, part of the rat's face was missing exposing its skull and its flesh was rotted, the smell of death filled the air. What remained of the rat's teeth was biting into Adaar's hand. Adaar smashed the rat into the wall next to him when he heard a bark.

Looking up Adaar saw a half rotted dog with many of its bones exposed running towards him. The dog jumped towards Adaar going for his throat, Adaar step out of the way and brought his axe down over the dog's neck. Cutting the dog's head off Adaar axe cut into the floor of the house. As Adaar pulled the axe from the floor a man wielding a sword came running from the same room the dog had come from.

As the man swung his sword at Adaar's head Adaar pulled his axe from the ground and used the the staff to strike the man across the face. The man stumbled back and fell against a wall behind him. Adaar used the bottom of his axe to hook the man's sword and pull it away from him then Adaar held the top point of his axe to the man's throat.

After a moment of staring at one, another Adaar asked man "You are Aiko?" the man nodded his head. Adaar pulled his axe back slightly "A dog and a rat have you brought anything else back?"

"No." answered Aiko.

Adaar pulled his axe back and held it to his side. "You will likely serve seven years as a slave for this and they will cut off some of your fingers, this is light necromancy. You did not try to bring any people back this is not so bad."

Aiko said, "I hoped Azyan's would be more accepting of my art."

"Necromancy is illegal in all of Molon. Very few people are accepting of it"

"Even your people, even the north men?"

"Most of our clans do not accept necromancy."

Aiko was silent.

"My opinion on your practices does not matter I do not know how much you care to continue your necromancy but the facts are you can try to fight me and die or you can be smart. Light me a candle follow me to the guard's post where I will turn you in, then you can face your punishment and afterwards you can move on with your life."

A moment of silence passed as the two men stared at on another until Aiko said: "I understand."

Adaar stepped back from Aiko as he stood up. With a glance to Adaar Aiko walked into the room he had run out of as Adaar watched him. Aiko lit a candle and turned to Adaar who was looking down the hallway. As Aiko went to stand next to Adaar he saw a man who was standing under Adaar's gaze.

The man was Yampuran and wore loose he had long black hair which he wore in a topknot and he had a thin black beard. Across the man's neck was a long scar and in his hands, he held two katanas one midrange in his right hand and a short katana in his left hand.

As the two men started at the man and his swords Adaar asked Aiko "Do you know him?"

"No." Answered Aiko.

"Put the candle down next to the wall and then leave out the window in your room."

"Should I wait for you."

"I would just run in your position."

With that Aiko did as Adaar said and ran.

The two men stared at one another for a moment in the thin candle light until Adaar reached into his boot as he said: "I suppose you are here for my bounty." Pulling a sack out of his boot Adaar looked at the scar on the man's neck, "You cannot speak."

Adaar opened the sack in his hand and snorted the berserker powder that was inside.

As the powder took effect Addar let out a growl and gripped his axe with both hands. As Adaar ran at the man Hvitur came behind the swordsman and bit into his leg.

The man feel to the ground and his mouth opened as if to scream yet no noise came. As the man turned to swing the sword in his right hand at Hvitur Adaar grabbed the man's arm. Adaar held his axe in one hand as he lifted the man up and threw him into the doorway next to him.

The swordsman landed on the edge of a table next to a chair in the kitchen of the home. Adaar came rushing into the kitchen and the swordsman kicked a nearby chair at Adaar.

Adaar blocked the chair with his axe and the swordsman jumped at Adaar landing a kick against Adaar's face. Adaar stepped back and as the swordsman hit the ground he trusted his left-hand sword at Adaar striking him in the right shoulder.

The sword's hilt was pressed against Adaar's shoulder and the blade stuck out his back. As the swordsman lifted his right sword to cut Adaar Hvitur bit into the swordsman's arm.

Adaar looked into the man's eyes and smiled as he snarled and grabbed the man's arm with his right hand. With Adaar holding one of the man's arms and Hvitur biting into the other Adaar punched the man in his face with his left hand.

The man stepped back and Adaar punched him again, and again. With each punch, the three stepped towards a window that was behind the swordsman. As the three reached the window the swordsman's face was brutalized, battered, and blood.

As the man leaned out the window he stared at Adaar with his one eye that wasn't swollen closed and his mouth hung open missing teeth. Adaar looked back at the man and pulled the swordsman sword out of his shoulder and let go of his hand as Adaar pushed the swordsman out of the window.

The man felt a few feet and his mouth opened letting out a silent groan as he laid on the city street. Adaar looked at the man for a moment then looked to Hvitur who was looking back at him. Adaar then turned back to where his axe was laying on the ground.

Adaar tried to pick up his axe from the ground with his right hand but found he could raise his arm over his head. Adaar decided to pick up his axe with his left hand, but when he turned to execute the man he had disappeared along with his swords. All that was left was a pull of blood but no trail.

"Fuck!" barked Adaar as he slammed his axe into a wall. Adaar then lifted up a chair and smashed it into a wall letting out a loud roar. After the chair shattered apart Adaar looked down to his arm. His blood trailed down onto the ground coming from his shoulder then Adaar looked to his left hand. It was covered in blood and his knuckled were all swollen and cut. Adaar pulled his axe from the wall with a low frustrated growl and walked out of the house into the dark night.
