꧁Part Seven꧂
“Hey what happened with you and Ray?” Phil asked with a cute smile on his small face. “Oh nothing, don’t worry about it.” I answered and gave him a reassuring smile. When Phil looked away from me for a second I took the chance to give Ray the death glare.
Ray turned away from his conversation with Norman for a second and smirked at me. I clenched my teeth and forced myself to look away from them. I angrily shoved a mouthful of pancakes in my mouth and tried to make my mind off of Ray.

“Let’s review. During the freetime we have after we eat lunch you too will inspect the wall. Don and Gilda, stand outside where you can see the second floor window to the south. Stay alert, I’ll signal to you if I’m not able to distract Mom. Y/N, if I can’t distract Mom you will try to once Don and Gilda go to warn Emma and Norman.” Ray explained, going over his plan to inspect the wall.
I already knew what the plan was and didn’t need or want to hear it again. The more time you spent with them the more attached you grew to them which wasn’t a good thing.
‘Soon enough they will be dead though and I will be working to become a Mom so it doesn’t matter. Technically I could help them escape for real but it’s too risky for me to even think about actually siding with them.’ I thought.
A few of the younger kids shouted to Don and GIlda asking to play and they gladly complied. “Ray, we need to talk.” Norman said seriously, making direct eye contact with Ray.
I didn’t really care about what it was so when they went in the house to discuss it I just stayed back. “Hey Y/N come play tag with us!” Phil cheered and I complied and jogged over to him and the other kids.

It was lunch time and I had a hunch about something. Mom hadn’t exactly taken a liking to Sister Krone and I figured that she would try to get rid of her as soon as possible.
I didn’t exactly like Krone either but that was mainly because she kinda creeped me out with all the weird faces she made and how obvious it was she only did things for herself.
My theory about Mom getting rid of Krone was proved to be true when lunch time came around and Sister Krone was nowhere to be seen.
“Thank you for the food.” Everyone said in unison and started to eat lunch. I didn’t want to sit with Ray, Emma, and Norman but Emma dragged me there so it wasn’t like I had much of a choice in the matter.
“I wonder where Sister Krone is.” Emma pondered. “We probably won’t see her again.” Ray and I said in unison. I sent a glare in Ray’s direction and Norman just chuckled.
“What do you mean?” Emma asked. I didn’t want the other kids to hear the conversation so I decided to just whisper it to her.
“Krone was getting in Mom's way so she was probably either killed or sent away. Most likely killed though.” You explained which left Emma wide eyed.
---
My heart nearly skipped a beat when Mom came out of the house while Ray was supposed to be distracting her.
Emma and Norman were still running through the forest to get to the wall, there’s no way that they’ve finished the inspection already which means we're in trouble. Gilda and Don were still by the younger kids but did see Mom come out.
They stood there with wide eyes for a second before Don ran inside to see what happened to Ray since he hadn’t signaled us when he failed to distract Mom.
Mom was already on her way to the wall so I decided to run after her. When I caught up to Mom Ray and Don had just left the building and were coming in our direction at full speed.
There was quite a bit of distance between Mom and I and the others so they probably can’t stop Mom before she reaches Emma and Norman.
The only problem is I still have to try to stop Mom from reaching them. Mom glanced down at me for a second then looked away and started to pick up her pace a little since the others were still running.
To make it look like I was actually trying to stop Mom I got infront of her and just walked backwards as she moved forwards. “What happened with Ray?” I asked with a raised brow even though I already had a pretty good idea of what went down.
“Let’s just say he was quite shocked when I cut him off from being my spy and said that he was a traitor.” She answered. “Do you think they suspect me?” I questioned as I avoided stepping on a branch.
“Norman might, but we won’t have to worry about that for long.” Mom said, hinting that she will be getting rid of Norman.
I felt a ping in my heart but did my best to ignore it. Even though I have been spending a lot of time with Ray, Norman, and Emma, I’m still a traitor to them and they’ll all end up getting eaten anyway. Caring about people gets people nowhere in life.
When I noticed that we were getting quite close to where Norman and Emma were I moved from infront of Mom and stopped walking for a bit.
Once Mom made it to the wall I jogged over to where they were. Norman glanced at me but turned his attention back to Mom. “Hey Mom! Is something wrong!?” Emma asked in a very cheerful voice.
I can’t deny that since Emma has found out about the secret she has gotten a lot better at lying and acting. Not good enough to fool Mom though. I mouthed ‘sorry’ to Norman and Emma for not stopping Mom. “Ten years.” Mom started.
“That’s how long we’ve been living together. But this is the first time we’ve talked without any of us acting. It’s nice to meet you Emma, and the same goes for Norman.” Mom finished as Emma and Norman visibly stiffened.
“Come, now. Why do you look so worried? It’s only me, so you're free to relax. There’s no one else around so you don’t have to act like good little kids who don’t know anything.” Mom said as a bead of sweat trickled down Emma’s small forehead.
“Right now were the caretaker, and the children meant to be food. However I must admit, I love every one of the children I’ve raised. I do, truely. I love you all as if you were my own children. That’s why I came out here to ask that you just give up.” Mom explained with her voice dropping at the end and her smile fading.
“You want us to..” Emma started, maintaining eye contact with Mom. “Give up..” Norman finished for her.
