89: Saved me

She- Selena Gomez

__________

Hunger was never a problem for Lisa in the past.

She always had enough food; either from stealing or actually buying it with her own money. Now it hasn't been that easy since she's paying her father to leave her brothers alone with her fighting money, so she rarely has any money for herself. It's almost too tempting to go back to dealing, but she knows that now isn't exactly a good time to be wandering the streets now that it's in a danger zone after the multiple deaths that's been going on.

So, this is what Lisa has to do now.

Steal.

And steal.

Without being caught of course.

This is what she's doing at the moment actually. Her hood is up, covering most of her face as she walks into a bodega in the city of Busan, head down with a backpack slouched over her shoulders. The cashier with the buzz cut and mean scowl on his face is currently on his phone, typing away with picking at his nails from his other hand, so he doesn't see how Lisa is discretely taking things and putting it in her backpack.

The place is empty of people so it's much easier for her to take anything without the eyes of others being around to be a snitch.

She heard things about city people, and it's that they're real big snitches. One can never be too careful to do a little sinning here.

It always gets caught.

However Lisa is running out of options at this point.

Just as she finished taking a bunch of frozen foods, a few junk and canned foods, she grabbed a candy bar and just took it to pay for it since it was the only thing she could afford.

Only to make it seem believable and not too obvious that she stole something.

However when she got up to the register, the man's sneering eyes were on her slightly suspicious as he glances at her somewhat filled backpack.

That was once empty.

Clearly he's no idiot for the art of stealing.

"Alright kid, hand it over."

Ah shit.

Lisa perks her head to the side in confusion, a deep frown on her lips, "Want what over?"

It's never too late to run....

The man's eyes grew more darker like a vicious snake and his lips twisted to a nasty snarl, "You know what, stop being fucking trouble- HEY!"

Lisa was just about to make a run for it but a hand on her wrist yanks her back and it's pressed down hard on the counter, keeping her in place. She tried prying away but the other male held on tightly with his face now so fucking angry.

"Hand over the fucking things you bitch!"

"Fuck you!" Lisa yells back and was just about to take out her pocket knife from her hoodie to use it against him, but suddenly the hand let's go of her wrist.

The cashier is suddenly pushed back by a hand on is chest, rattling him back against the racks behind him. Lisa felt her breath suddenly clog up her throat, especially when she looks up to who her savior was.

A man is standing in front of her with narrowed wide eyes to the cashier, extending an arm out to Lisa so he's shielding her away from him.

"Hey! Don't hold her like that!"

"She was stealing! She owes me money!"

Lisa can't breathe by this point and her hands are shaking in a familiar nerving adrenaline on the spot. No, it wasn't by how beautifully breathtaking the man who's sticking up for her is or how someone actually stood up for for her in the first place.

It was by the glimmer badge on her saviors chest.

A cop.

Fuck.

So many things ran Lisa's mind as she stares at the gleaming badge. Things involving her brothers if they find out she got arrested for stealing. They can't come back here, let alone worry if she isn't being well nutritional because it isn't safe to be back home. Thinking just how mad Iodine and Woosung would be if they find out about this too only sent more shivers of nerves down Lisa's spine.

She can't get fucking arrested.

This is not what's going to happen, let alone is what Lisa will let happen.

As the cop and the cashier go off at each other, Lisa glances at the door, her legs now shaking horribly bad with a familiar need to move.

Run.

She can make it.

Just..... Run.

Lisa blinks between the two males in front of her only for a second long before not wasting another moment in making a run for it out of the door.

"HEY!"

Goodbye to you too handsome officer.

Lisa bolts down the sidewalk, running as fast as her quick feet could carry her down the streets of the city. It was stupid thinking that she had a chance to steal in the city, during the late hours, and expect to not get caught.

Stores are closing down back home due to how dangerous it's getting. Segas keep easing in and food is running really low, especially money. Now Lisa is left to steal at the heart of Busan, where most of her brothers and sisters are aiming to get a glimpse of the gold that will leave food to their stomachs for a while.

Iodine can't provide for them like before anymore while this is going on, not even protection since her children are dying.

Everyone is left to fend for themselves.

And that's what Lisa is doing.

She could feel the heavy footsteps behind her and that only pulsates for her to run faster, an energy boost exploding in her body as she strides quick with her heart pulses drumming against her ears. If there's anything Lisa also has as a genetic from her brothers it's their speed.

No one can ever catch up to them.

No matter who it is, the sadistic trio will always be quick enough to escape.

That's all one knows what to do while growing up in these dark streets, no one really has a choice in that matter.

But.... Lisa fucked up.

Really bad.

How did she fuck up?

She had to slow down in order to take a sharp turn around the corner, in which resulted with the person catching up to her rather all too quickly and before she knew it she's being yanked back by the backpack and hood.

Fuck!

So close.

Right when Lisa was about to turn around and swing her fists at the stranger, she sees that it's that cop from the store.

Instantly she held herself back.

Assaulting an officer is definitely asking for a death wish, that's something Iodine has always told her children, so she had to keep her fist clenched tightly on her sides to prevent herself from getting into even more problems.

She eyed the man in annoyance, who's panting heavily as he holds tightly to her hood and backpack to keep her in place while pressing his other hand to his knee to catch his breath.

"You can run, I'll admit that," He huffs between each breath, slowly swaying to stand up straight, "You honestly couldn't wait just a few more minutes for me to pay for your stuff?"

Wait what?

Pay for my stuff?

The fuck?

Lisa's face twists, unable to force out her scowl as she yanks herself out of his grasp, "The fuck are you on about? Gonna arrest me now aren't you?"

The cop now has caught his breath, perking an eyebrow at her hostility, "Well I'm kinda on a break now.... But I mean, do you want me to arrest you?"

What the fuck is this?

Is this a joke!??

Lisa takes a cautious step back with squinted eyes, "Are you on drugs? You're suppose to be handcuffing me for stealing!"

The cop blinks at her, taking in the worn out large hoodie draping over her small body with an old pair of leggings, that's pretty scrapped up from a few places on her knees, especially her torn apart shoes that she still managed to run in pretty fast.

It's clear through anyone's eyes that she's just someone desperate to survive another day.

That fierceness is clear behind her intense gaze.

Must be exhausting being a warrior all the time....

A small sigh pasts the officer's lips, pulling out his handcuffs in heaviness, "Fine, if you desperately want to be arrested-"

"Wait! Fuck- I wasn't- Ah shit," Lisa grunts under her breath as her hands were guided to her back and cuffed by the familiar metallics around his wrists, now completely restrained from moving.

She should've just kept her mouth shut.

This is what she gets for having Yeosang as a brother, his snarky tongue, that always gets her into trouble.

"Lets go kid."

Just what Lisa needed, to be fucking arrested.

What an amazing way for her to spend her Saturday night.

At the fucking police station, getting scolded to not do petty crimes like what she did.

So stupid.

With a deep scowl she's lead to the police car in front of the bodega she stole from, uncuffed and gently pushed inside the backseat. A mean grimace is on her lips now with arms crossed over her chest after testing out the doors but realizing she can't escape no matter how much she tried to nudge through it, unfortunately.

The officer piles inside quietly, turns on the engine and drives off.

As the time continues to tick by in this suffocating silence of the vehicle, Lisa now feels the heavy weight of her situation, growing slightly more and more panicked if they do decide to call anyone of her family members.

Her father would beat her up.

Her mother would tell her father and then he would beat her either way.

Jungkook and Yeosang would rush back here and that's the last thing she wants for them.

Either way she's going to end up regretting this moment.

Great.

She's actually completely screwed.

All because she wanted food.

The car stopped a bit too soon than expected and the officer gets out of the car. Lisa looks out the window from playing with her hands to see that they have stopped at a small Chinese take out restaurant. Instantly her eyebrows furrowed as her gaze follows the officer going into the restaurant and disappearing behind the door.

Did he seriously stopped for food right now?

Oh this is a fucking sick joke for sure.

He's doing this on purpose now. Knowing just how fucking hungry Lisa is and now he's going to stuff his beautiful face with food just to spite her.

This is why she hates men.

Think they're all big with their pride just because they're men-

Okay, she can't exactly say that while she has two brothers, who aren't like that and are actually good guys, even Woosung.

But still!

Everyone else is complete and utter-

The cop comes back with a large brown take out bag almost instantly as he approaches the car and gets inside. The steaming smell of fried rice and noodles aroma instantly caresses Lisa's nose that her stomach even began to growl uncomfortable.

She's so hungry.

"Full name ma'am."

Ew ma'am, makes her sound old.

Lisa twitches a frown to the sound of his voice, slouching more against the seat, "Jeon Lalisa."

The officer types up her name on his computer and instantly all her information appeared on the screen. By now Lisa can't even think straight because of the stupid smell of food practically having her drool just by how hungry she is.

And it smells so good.

If it wasn't for the barricaded glass between the seats of the back and front, she would've stolen the food by now.

"Alright, off we go," The officer beams bubbly and starts the engine before driving away once again.

This is the first time Lisa has ever seen an officer this perky in her life. All the officers she would run away from has always been snappy and angry all of the time. Maybe a bit too aggressive, but that was just how they dealt with misbehaving street kids.

Meanwhile this cop is very..... Calm and... Odd in a way. Clearly he doesn't have much experience on the job judging by how young he looks to be and his unbothered calm personality, but he is fit enough to catch up to Lisa which says a lot about his physic.

He's going to be one hell of a cop to avoid for sure after more years on the duty. The type that will grow to be someone no one will want to mess with.

His beauty is also something else, but beauty is only appearance and Lisa doesn't fall for that facade anymore.

She did once and that ended up with her being left abandoned on her wedding day by this asshole.

Never again will she relive an experience like that of complete humiliation. She had to stop her brothers and Woosung from killing the guy, and thankfully Iodine said a word and they didn't dare go against it.

Leave it to Iodine to save the day for the Jeon family, as always.

It didn't hit Lisa's realization quick enough to acknowledge the fact that she's not in the center of Busan anymore. The bright lights are nonexistent, aside from the ones of the street lamps, that are barely even working by this point, but it's still bright enough to guide a clear path. The streets and lonesome buildings are familiar that it took Lisa a second for her to realize that this is her neighborhood.

"U-Um?" Lisa hums quietly under her breath in confusion, "Didn't we pass the station?"

"Yup."

Lisa snaps her head towards the officer, seeing him calmly driving as if he didn't know he just entered the devils playground, "Aren't you going to arrest me?"

For a moment he didn't say anything, but he did flicker his eyes to her through the review mirror, "Now why would I do that?" He says back, keeping his voice smooth like a lullaby, "You're just someone trying to survive. As you can see, I'm not that far too old to understand that. I've been there too."

Ha, he's been there too?

Like hell he has been through the horrors of these streets.

The scoff couldn't be masked out from Lisa's lips, raising her hood over her head to cover her head, "Oh give me a break. What? Grew pity for the poor kid? That's why you're being all nice? Want something in return too?"

The officer didn't say anything more to her comments, only continues driving all the way until he eases into a stop in front of the apartment complex Lisa's staying in. To say this freaked her out at first would be an understatement, but then she saw her profile on the computer and realized her address is also printed there as well.

At least it's that one and not her parents' address.

"I'm sorry you think that an act of kindness has to be laced with some hidden negative intention," He responds back with a quiet voice, nearly disappointed in a way he tried to mask it, almost making Lisa feel a bit bad for her tone she's been using on him.

She had learned to not trust anyone, even the nice ones, and she sticks with it.

No one is ever too good in this life, not unless they want something back in return. That's just the way it is here.

It's better to be alone than to be with someone who's only going to be seconds away from stabbing your back.

The cop piled out of the car before walking around and standing in front of the door by Lisa's side and opening it, the Chinese food take out in hand as well.

"Here, this should be enough to last you a few days," He says while shoving the bag to her chest when she gets out of the car, making her grasp it with her hands so it wouldn't fall, "Don't try to steal again. If you're hungry, I put my card inside the bag. Just call me and I'll bring you food."

This is not processing fast enough in Lisa's head, especially as she stared at the man's face to study if this is some odd twisted game. His dark eyes remain naturally wide and melted chocolate sincerity over his iris. Facial expression calm in delicacy so his cheekbones are more perked on the slender face of melanin skin. His voice matches his voice, raspy but deep and clear.

Attractive.

Beautiful.

Almost angelic.

And the street light casting over his face isn't helping even the slightest, making him look only more ethereal.

Wow is he even real?

Lisa gulped the thick saliva down her throat, blinking at him, "You didn't have to."

Then she saw it.

The perk of a tender smile at the corner of his rosy pink lips.

It's so small yet it changed his face almost drastically, outshining a more bubbly beam that is damn near contagious because Lisa found herself trying not to smile back.

This feels weird.

No one really shines..... This type of innocent that he does.

"Sometimes not everyone is too mean in life," He gigged shyly before looking at the apartment complex and looking back to Lisa, "I hope you enjoy the food. Stay home and be safe."

There was something about him that just made Lisa feel as though her guard isn't as up as usual, and she hates that feeling all together. Never is one suppose to put their guard down for anyone or anything at all.

No matter how good someone appears to be because that's what gets you killed.

So she only purses her lips to suppress a mean scoff, "I don't need help from you or anybody, I can look after myself."

The officer only fixes his eyes slowly back to her, his smile widening and he nods, "Clearly you can," He says and begins to walk around the car, "The nickname is Jon by the way, in case you ever become a damsel in distress again."

Now this made Lisa huffs out a trail of curse words as she stomps to her apartment complex, leaving the officer, or Jon in this case, into a heap of laughter as he gets into his car.

Lisa didn't even hold back from flipping him off before entering the front doors of her apartment building, still trailing a mutter of curse words under her breath.

Damsel in distress? As if.

If only he knew who she was then maybe he would've quivered in fear, just slightly.

Such a gentlemen, oh please. He was probably too scared to bring her to the station since he looks like a newbie.

Thought he was her knight and shining armor, ha that's funny.

Lisa is her own Prince Charming and Princess, thank you very much.

Lisa continued with her trail of annoyed words before arriving to her studio and slamming the door shut behind her. She sets the bag and backpack on the table of the kitchen, ripping her hoodie of her body to leave her only in a sports bra, showing the decorations of tattoos on her body. Her stomach is growling beyond belief at this point as she digs her hands into the take out bag and takes out containers and containers of food.

There's much food actually.

Actually...... A little too much.

The more she takes out, the more her heart dropped to her stomach and now to her knees.

Okay this must've cost a lot of money, the fuck!

Now this got her annoyed rather than feeling hungry.

Well doesn't she feel insulted. Does he really think she has no food at home or something? Or is that poor to afford it?

It's not a lie but that's an offensive prediction to jump into upon meeting someone.

That's so rude.

Now with her face twisted in annoyance, she digs into the bag and finds the stupid card Jon was referring too.

Oh he's going to hear from her alright.

She takes out her phone and presses harshly the number from the card, slamming a fist on the counter with teeth gritted tight on her jaw as she waits for the other line to answer.

"Hello?"

"Your ass better get back over here and take all this damn food back! This is too much!"

Almost instantly she heard the bubbling laughter of the cop through the phone, unable to hide the twitching smile on her lips as it rings from the other line.

It's the type of laughter that sounds genuine and so..... Pure? If that makes any sense.

As though he's genuinely amused.

It sounds..... Uncommon to hear someone laugh.

"This is not the distress I was referring too," Jon snickers back through the other line, "It's okay, just eat it."

Lisa's lips gapped when she dug more into the bag to take out a roll of money, her anger now going beyond a normal range at this point.

"YOU FUCKING GAVE ME MONEY TOO! YOU CAN'T JUST DO THAT!"

"So what do you plan on doing when you run out of food again? Steal?"

"Yes!"

"Then have fun with the money sweetheart," He beams back and Lisa can almost imagine the smug smile on his face, "I mean, unless you want to see me again and this time I could actually arrest you-"

"Wow the food looks marvelous, what a decent human being you are. Goodbye now!"

And Lisa hangs up the phone, throwing it on the counter with an eye roll as she looks at the containers of food.

Unable to hide her small smile from her face.
