75: Birthday Reunion

Dollhouse- Melanie Martinez

___________

Today is not a day of celebrating.

Well, not through Taehyung's eyes.

There's nothing special of the day he took his first gasp of air into life or about how his mother cradled his small body in her arms, pouring adoring words to her precious new born while his father cries with tears of joy from beside her to his new son.

There's nothing special when he perked his baby eyes open to see his loving family, smiling giddily to the beautiful human beings in front of him.

No, there's nothing special of the anniversary of that day.

There's nothing special about his birthday.

He was given life to a world he didn't want to live in. It's almost as though this was his last bet. Maybe he misbehaved horrible for his other life and this is punishment for that. Perhaps in another life he could be just a regular college student, continue on with studies that he actually likes and feel happy while doing it.

Even if he's having a taste of that life he desired, his past will always drag him back to his roots.

But now, in this current life, death sounds real nice right now.

This is the life he doesn't want to live in, and now he just has to suck it up and deal with it because he has no other choice.

Especially if he's in front of his family.

"You're 22 today," Mother states, eating the food the she set up on the table, most specifically the salad, "A year away from graduating."

Right.... Graduating...

This nerved an anxious string in Taehyung's body, nodding respectively towards her statement, "Yes mother, that's right."

Hwanwoong glances up at him from across the dinner table, chewing on his food with his mouth closed as he listens to the conversation.

Mother hates it when they chew with their mouth of open.

"Have you decided what you want to do yet?" Mother says calmly, her sharp eyes looking over at him while patting a hand over her hair, that's up in a pretty made design, suiting well her thin face.

It took a moment for Taehyung to sink in what she was actually asking, letting out a heavy sigh and staring down at the food, now having no appetite for it, "Mother, I already stated my part," And he somehow gained the courage to look up at her, "I want no part of the business, at all. I just want to be a regular kid. That's why I moved to Seoul in the first place."

He knew he outspoke a bit too much but he was not about to stay silent about this anymore. It's his future. His life. If he's going to be living in it, mind as well do something he genuinely enjoys doing and not something just for the sake of others.

He wants no part of her business, or their family business.

Most definitely after realizing that...... Jungkook's family is their enemy.

It was so quick that Taehyung made this decision after doing some more investigation himself, towards the end deciding he wants no part of it because he wants Jungkook to still be in his life.

Taehyung would do anything to keep him in it, even if it means breaking tradition with a business he doesn't even want to pursuit. He knows that Jungkook would never accept this and he will most definitely push himself away from him, and Taehyung can't have that.

Since the day they met, Jungkook has been the only constant in his life. An anchor, a mirror, and he doesn't want to lose that at all.

His bunny will be safe, no matter what.

Mother, on the other hand, was not impressed. If anything, she looked more pissed.

She sets her fork down, very loudly actually as it banged against the plate, manicured fingers interlancing together as she looks over at her eldest son, "Taehyung...... Your mother and I has prepared you for this position for years, literally. You're serious going to just give away all those years of training? For what? To be a musician?"

Taehyung is digging his teeth against his bottom lip hard, trying to not let her words dig too deep in his heart but he remained with his composure up like he's been taught to do.

Actually that's what Taehyung wanted to be for his life, a musician. That's something him and Yoongi bond over a lot when they're together, making him feel like himself and connected to that passionate part of his flame.

Apart from their twisted history together, this is something that has brought them closer, as bizarre as it is.

Of course he has mentioned it to mother and of course she's not exactly thrilled about it.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you," He says calmly back to her, keeping his eyes away from her glaring ones, "I just don't want that to be part of my life. I want to make my decision for what I want to do..... I apologize mother."

Silence.

A deadly silence.

It's the type of silence that is for sure to come with a fatal stab, and Taehyung is just about ready to take it.

"What about that deal you made?" She suddenly spoke out, "Are you going to give the father his kid or what?"

Of course this was coming.

Taehyung gulps thickly, squeezing his eyes shut with a shake of his head, "I have returned the money. I'm not giving the kid back."

It's almost as though hearing this filled Hwanwoong with relief, having hope this his brother really did have a change of heart.

Being caught up with this dark world business does change ones heart to a certain extent; to be greedy and have this hunger for stability, not caring who they drag down with them.

Taehyung finally woke up from it.

"Any reason as to why?" Mother asks, voice not lacing in judgement, more so in a cold lace to give her son the space to speak.

Taehyung breathes out a shakily breath and looks up at her, "The father abuses him. He fooled me, telling me the kid was misbehaving. We are at a steady rate now with money, so I didn't need it, especially since I'm not living with hwanwoong anymore. I can manage on my own. At that time I was just desperate since we didn't have anything."

Mother stares at Taehyung, her icy eyes showing a massive whirl of emotions that was too hard for Taehyung to pick up on, but that slowly melted down her features and she goes back to looking at her food, "Do you need me to take care of this so called father? We do not accept traitors to fool my family, let alone tolerate abusers. If you said he fooled you, I can send a few of the Segas to take care of it."

Taehyung shakes his head at his mother, feeling himself slightly relax down, "At the end of the day, he's still the father, and the kid would rather deal with it alone. The last thing he needs is a reason to go back," He says calmly, twitching a smile, "Thank you mother."

It good to know his mother is on his side for this instead of bombarding off.

She wanted to see how intelligent Taehyung's mind is while dealing with this pressured situation they were in before, and she's proud that he managed it well without harming anyone.

Physically.

Now this made mother flash a small smile to his thanking, evidently relaxing too and reaching over to place a hand on his hand, "I love you Taehyung. Everything I do is for you and Hwanwoong and for your safety. That's why I just worry a lot," And then she pause, taking in a heavy breath, "If being part of this business is something you don't want to do, I won't pressure you any longer. However, that doesn't mean you will be left unprotected if you ever need anything. You're the heir after all."

This has to be some sort of birthday miracle because Taehyung was having a hard time believing that this was all true.

Finally he has his mother support and approval.

It's been so long, so long since he's been prying for her to just listen to him.... And now she's finally giving into what he wants.

This can't possible get any better.

"So," Hwabwoong whistled, a smug grin on his lips, "Does that mean I can handle the business now?"

A faint chuckles bubbles in the table as mother teaches over to caress the side of his face with her knuckles, "You will be the best Boss anyone has ever had. You just need to grow a little more and learn a lot," She snickers and looks at her two boys with a happy smile, "I know your mother would be so proud...... Thank you both for accepting the decision I made with myself and seeing me as a mother..... So best believe I will have your back if times do get rough, okay?"

Finally Taehyung's family is getting along.

His family. His biggest strength. The reason for everything he does just to take off more weight off from their shoulders.

Taehyung loves his family, despite the down hills he goes through, his family was always there to protect and look out for him.

Every single step of the way.

He's slowly starting to regret pushing his mother away for so long, angered with her pressure for him to be serious about his role in the family. In reality, she just wanted what she thought was best for him.

At the end of the day, his mother will always want his happiness to be a priority and she will support any decision he decides to do.

This has officially became the best birthday Taehyung has had in a while.
