114: Backstory

Mount Everest - Labrinth

As a kid, Taehyung was never given the chance to be a regular little boy.

He was raised by his mother and father, had a little brother that came a few years after, and they seemed like the perfect family from an outside perspective.

That's what Taehyung wanted to believe, praised actually, manipulated himself to engrave in his head.

Yeah, Taehyung loved his family.

He really did.

The only problem was, he hated the business.

Mafia business that is.

Since it would make everyone angry.

By the time Taehyung was five years old, he has stopped crying for little things. Not even for big things either. He just stopped crying in general. Get scolded every time he would cry has became a punishment he dreaded to face, far more than the pain he received at the moment that made him cry in the first place.

If he was going to be the leader of this empire, he had to not show weakness.

He had to suck it in.

So, whenever he would want to cry, he would tie his tiny wrists with a nylon rope and ask his parents to slap his hands as a reminder that crying meant he will get hurt.

And they did it.

With a ruler.

He had to do this process every day for three years before he managed to get electric cuffs instead, torturing himself whenever he wanted to cry with a simple press of a button down to remember that being emotional meant he will get hurt.

That he will be weak.

That he won't be a man.

He won't be a leader.

When Taehyung turned eight years old, he saw someone get tortured for the first time. In his basement, by one of the goons - who wanted to teach the young heir how to be a strong leader when someone messes with him.

The victim was a small boy like him, who he never has met in his life. The boy pleaded him, crying hysterically to let him go.

Right before they began to hurt him.

With every scream the victim eased out of their lips, Taehyung swallowed it down while pressing on the button of the cuffs to not feel anything. To not let the screams get to him as the boy got kicked on the abdomen repeatedly, filling the room with the cracks of his bones when they would snap a rib or his spine.

Because if he cried, he would get hurt.

And if he's going to be strong, he has to take it in.

Every single pain.

That's all he thought about just as the boy took his last breath of life before his eyes.

Being raised as a mafia kid meant having a heart of stone, and after Taehyung's first kill at the age of eleven - through a fit of rage when a boy aggressively slapped his little brother at the playground down the street - he felt his heart not only turn to stone.

But become ruthless with this new emotion of anger than pain.

After his first kill, Taehyung's training began.

At times in the midst of his training, he would wonder what life would be like if he was just a regular kid. Would he be able to feel things again? Would he explode in rage because of the time he wasn't able to express his feelings? Or would he genuinely be happy?

He never wondered for too long.

After all, those are just silly thoughts after all.

His mother was a tough one on him, but she was still his first love in the world. Being the Donna of an empire meant she had to be like a stone and make those around her equally as tough as it is to survive the business.

Including Taehyung and Hwanwoong.

Taehyung never played with toy cars as a kid.

Or with action figures.

Not even collect Pokémon cards.

Toys was replaced by a knife or a gun, practicing his aim and shooting to be able to defend himself out there in the dark world.

Watching and hearing the talk of business on drugs and a kill list was his television.

And as a teen his collection ended up being needles to inject himself with to feel something other than nothing.

To feel high.

Especially after the Donna of the empire passed away.

Taehyung doesn't remember crying at her funeral, but he does remember that being the first-time drugs wasn't in the equation to make him feel something. Maybe that stone heart cracked at the moment.

Just barely.

When his father then made the decision to transition, his own decision in wanting to feel more comfortable in his skin, Taehyung started dealing.

And buying.

Heroin became mixed with cocaine, and he almost overdosed a few times.

Or maybe he did, but of course he didn't care.

He never cared about much really after his mother died, even before she died, but guess she was a valuable part in his life after all.

She made him a monster.

And she was his creator.

Who he adored with all his heart.

Sometimes he was sent to do missions, as in to keep head in the family business - gain experience and shit like that. So, he would accompany goons to their jobs and watch.

Only on few occasions he would participate if it was monitoring them, but that's only when he was edged on enough by whoever it was to show his strength.

Show that he's still the heir of the empire.

And no one would dare cross boundaries with the prince.

Even if his head is swimming with crack, that's when people should really watch out. Tends to get more reckless when he's high, especially when someone pisses him off.

He got known. Well known actually. Form business to the streets, Taehyung knew how to play the game well. He knew when to act professional and went to drown in his highs.

In that process, he never allowed himself to drown in emotions.

After all, drugs were a perfect remedy.

It wasn't until after high school that Taehyung decided that he didn't want this life for himself anymore - maybe after his last overdose with heroin. Not because of anything in particular really that happened but guess you could say he did have someone to influence it.

A friend really.

Named Choi Minho.

He's the heir of another empire, Hierba. During a family gathering the two met and strangely enough, that was the first-person Taehyung could say he felt a bond with.

Minho is a handsome man. Well established, two years older than Taehyung, with a professional smile whenever he would greet people with this already powerful aura despite being so young.

Taehyung couldn't compare, especially with his unstable ass running off in relentless fighting sprees and drug addiction. Yet Minho seemed to have taken a liking in his company, probably even more while he stayed in their home.

He was only there for a short amount of time, but that was enough time for Minho to express the thrills of life outside the empire when he would travel and the beauty of music. When Taehyung wasn't high off his shit, the two would sit down and Minho would show him different genres of music. Taught him how to play the guitar and piano, even introduced him to a few of those artists when they would go on small trips when their parents were too busy with business.

Nothing romantic happened really, or at least something that Taehyung wasn't in the proper state of mind to notice.

But Minho never pushed it. He new better about the terrors of emotional bonds in an empire.

From the two, Minho was more connected to his emotions.

He knew how to control himself and feel what it was to feel alive, at least feel human.

And he learned it on his own.

Taehyung didn't, yet by seeing Minho express these emotions when they were alone, through joy or sadness, felt so foreign to him that it made him want to.... Experience it.

To be normal.

That's the problem right there, Taehyung didn't know how to.

He didn't know how to be emotional.

He didn't know how to care for something.

He didn't know what it meant to keep someone in his life.

In that small time that Minho was there, he taught him many things except for that.

Especially about the tender pleasures of a bedroom.

When he left, the two never got in contact again.

But his impact was enough to make Taehyung want to do something about his life.

To feel.

To learn what it means to have a life outside what he's use to.

So he went rogue.

Rogue as in he rebelled against his mother, who was once his father, and him and Hwanwoong got an apartment on their own because he wanted to save his little brother somehow from that life. Away from all of this.

Away from this world.

Problem is, Taehyung has a lot of issues.

Not only withdrawals from drugs after years of being an addict when he stopped, and being raised and programmed to be a cold hearted killer with no connection to his emotional vulnerability, but he's also suicidal.

The scars on his torso is a great example of the times he grew weak and the cuffs weren't enough to numb the burn in his throat.

When he left the empire, he also left behind the drugs, his previous lifestyle, and the cuffs that has haunted his youth.

Suicidal thoughts was a must, especially for his brother.

Enrolling into a university wasn't so hard, a year flew by and he got the gist of it rather too quickly, but money was an issue by entering his second year.

He managed to save the money he got when he would go on his solo deals, but obviously that was starting to run thin after a fucking year.

Very thin.

And his brother has grown to have this vendetta against him, so he obnoxiously would spend a shit ton of money on purpose to piss him off.

Close to relapsing, maybe even killing himself, Taehyung decided to go to a bar as his last trip and hopefully overdose with some strong shit that he still has some saved up back home.

That is until a miracle happened.

A curse in disguise as a blessing.

And it was when a man approached him while he was drowning in tequila, recognizing the young heir from his obvious reputation, and went directly to the point after introducing himself.

What he wanted was by far the most bizarre and childish thing Taehyung has ever heard of, that any man could simply just go to the police and have them sort it out in a domestic legal way.

But obviously the man knew why he didn't do that.

The request was simple. Taehyung had to get the man his son back, who ran away in his attempt in being rebellious - sounds familiar - and in return, he will give him money.

Lots of it.

When he poured out the amount, Taehyung's eyes nearly fucking bulged out of its sockets.

Literally.

After the conversation lingered on more, as in the full details to what the man wants from him, Taehyung was convinced once he weighed out his current situation.

Nothing like getting a spoiled brat back to his daddy for misbehaving.

Simple.

After Taehyung got a name, he got to work.

Didn't take long for him to find the kid - Jungkook - through some hacking and research in the database. Only to have the greatest luck that he just happened to go to the same university as Taehyung.

So he got all his information down.

All the way down to the last brim.

Even to the information on who he's specifically rooming with.

Jimin.

For the past school year, Taehyung got the privilege to meet Jimin actually. They may have fucked around a few times, but it was never anything serious. Jimin isn't the serious committed type either way. He likes to have fun, so that saved all the emotional attachment issues that would come with having close friendships.

No, Taehyung didn't have friends.

He knew people, but they weren't friends.

He didn't know how to make friends, or act normal.

When people would go up to him, he didn't know if they wanted to shake his hand or press a gun to his forehead - like how it has happened many times when he was still part of his empire. Despite his agenda still pursing a normal life, Taehyung refused to have emotional bonds with people.

He just can't.

Even if he did grow emotional in general, he would find himself blowing up since doesn't know how to handle or express feelings.

For so long he has suppressed it deep in his chest that now that he has the ability to open up, he can't.

Even if it does, he just doesn't know how to deal with it.

Not like he was ever taught to either way.

He was a mafia heir after all.

Right now his priority is himself and his brother, since that's all he has as of now.

So he has got to get his shit together, find the kid and construct a plan on how to get him to go back home somehow.

First day of move in, Taehyung by now knew what needed to be known about this kid. Born and raised in Busan. Rebellious. Has two siblings, Yeosang and Lisa, mother and father. Lives in a shitty neighborhood - or lived so to say. Went to high school, graduated, now he's here.

The first time Taehyung saw him, dressed in a pink hoodie with crisp white jeans standing outside the doors of the dormitory, Taehyung was outside taking a smoke of his cigarette when the ravenette passed by him, right when he made his first university friend.

Jimin.

It wasn't a coincidence that Taehyung was there, he wanted to see him.

He was ready for it.

He just needed to see with who he was dealing with.

But he needed a little more.

So a few days after, he asked Jimin if they could have sex.

The guy was already with Taemin when he got the message, but that wasn't really a problem.

He just needed to see the dorm.

When Taehyung got there he took it in, making sure to map out everything well in his head to every inch of it, before he got distracted.

That was his first time having a threesome actually, and he didn't regret it a single bit.

When they were done, Taehyung just briefly heard the door from across the hallway open.

He didn't leave Jimin's room instantly, and to his luck Taemin had to go get water.

But the fucker took a while and Jimin wanted another round, so Taehyung took that perfect opportunity to leave the room.

There he saw the ravenette in his silk pajamas again.

From that somewhat first meet, Taehyung already could tell a lot.

He's hiding his identity and he's physically violent.

The scar on his cheek can testify to that.

Smoker too, judging by the vape pen he tried to hide up his sleeve.

From there that followed, Taehyung observed from a distance. When he left class, got to class, where he ate, who he talks to, everything.

All leading to the Jimin's football game.

Their proper first meet.

And Taehyung wasn't really impressed.

Kid has a tongue, and if Taehyung was the same man he was back then, it would've been sliced off in seconds.

Completely.

Taehyung held himself together though.

Until it got to the party.

That's where he knew exactly how to get to him.

Looking back to it..... If only Taehyung was cautious with himself.

If only he could've felt real emotions sooner in his life.

If only he was raised to be normal.

Maybe, just maybe......

He wouldn't have caused so much harm to the only person that became his everything.

If only...... He wasn't a mafia heir.

If only.

A/N:
So here is Taehyung's background.

I decided to write this because I believe not many people really understand his character. He's a mafia heir. Mafia is an illegal organization that involves in things such as trafficking, drugs, etc. He has been exposed to this since he knew how to walk.

He doesn't process emotions like how others would since he was raised not to. He has been through various forms of emotional, mental and physical trauma with no sense of nurturing environment to help guide him how to treat others.

I PURPLE YOU! <333
