THE BASICS
Where to Start: All About Personality and Story
* When first developing your OC it's important to have a basic idea of the personality of your character, especially when relating to how they would react to certain situations. One thing that you never want to occur is having you character's personality change from one chapter to the next. (This is especially important if you are writing multiple stories at once as you want all your OC's to have a unique voice). And if you do plan on character growth make sure that it happens over a period of time.
*Another thing that is also very important is that your OC need to have a backstory. They cannot simply be placed into the world of your story and have events occur to them. That could make your story boring over time.
*This also brings up the fact that your OC must have storylines outside of the main continuity of the TV show/ movie/ or book that your story is based it. Your character must feel unique and engaging to your reader and you accomplish that by pressing them with a storyline that they are not already familiar with. *
*Another basic tip towards creating your character would be to create other side characters that interact with your OC. This goes back to the previous tip regarding not wanting events that are already part of the show/movie/ book that your story is set in, creating a new set of characters that are also in that world will help.
