Chapter Four
"Are you sure he's dead?" Tamara asked, as Hope nodded her head. She may not be a facade on the outside. People knew her worldly like a movie star because this wasn't the same world anymore.
The sun had vanished countries away, leaving nothing but bodies of water. People have said there were small bodies of land that were created, such as the whole region of Clay.
Clay is the capital, with its small towns surrounding. The main ones are Stonewall and Claymore. Whiterose is where she grew up, which is outside of the region.
"I don't see him breathing," Hope said with a smirk. She looked at the blood on her hands, wiping it on her black shorts. "Honestly, does Jackson want the whole population gone? I could always jump to Ann next, since I didn't kill her husband. Her children don't even know the truth about anything. Sure, George died of a heart attack, but we all know he helped Jackson with solving my case."
Tamara pulled out a wallet from the man's pocket, as Hope snatched it from her hands. "Why do we need his ID?" Sydney asked.
"It's about money," Hope remarked, pulling out fifty dollars. "I mean, people do give me things when I ask because they don't have a choice."
This man on the ground that she stabbed, had been one Jack talked to this morning. It's not that he had uses he in her mind, expect for another pawn on her chess board.
Hope liked games ever since she was young. Aubrey had an innocent mindset about board games, but Hope had the mindset of a plotter. Even before Jackson murdered their parents, Hope saw people as pawns.
"I told her some information," Josh remarked, walking toward them.
Hope smirked with a hand on her hip, amused. Amaris may know nothing, but she is the best option. After all, if any person who tried to talk back to Hope, they'd give up and cower on their hands and knees.
"And how's the convincing going?" Hope asked, leaning against an old oak tree at someone's house.
"She's still scared of everyone. I don't think she fully trusts the right choice," Josh said.
"We'll keep convincing her somehow. Let's go to Walmart and get some food," Hope implied with a smile.
She held out her arm as Sydney, Josh, and Tamara all grabbed it. This resulted in them teleporting to the side, to the front of the large Walmart.
Hope counted the large amount of cash from other wallets they collected from dead victims. She could just go in and not pay for all of it, but Hope enjoyed seeing the fear those in the store wore.
They walked inside the automatic doors, grabbing a large grey cart, as the three behind her still seemed mindless. When she stepped foot near the man up front who greeted the customers, he froze.
"Go get some food." Hope ordered.
Sydney, Tamara, and Josh went running to different departments of the store. It was large for a Walmart in general in such a small town, but it was a well paid job nowadays.
One of the people greeters at the front stared frozen. Everyone feared her like she was the plague, coming to kill everyone with some illness. Then again, she did kill people away normally.
"It's quite frightening to see me here, isn't it, Paul? Call Jackson if you wish, but I don't think that's wise," Hope said, pulling out a bloody knife from her pocket.
"You killed my sister," he said without emotion. Hope nodded, picking some of the dried blood off the knife.
"Yes, I believe two years ago when she reported to Jackson about her house being robbed. It had been her fault for filing the report," she explained.
People that had entered stood frozen, while others around them seemed they'd faint. Hope pushed herself up on the cart, standing on the area where children would sit. Hope spotted someone trying to dial for Jackson, but she faced her palm at the lady before a loud alarm started going off.
The sounds of sirens blared as the alarm inside stopped. Tamara came wandering over with some peaches, bread, donuts, and salad in hand. Jackson came through the door with backup police officers, standing at the door.
"My my, you have backup today. I'm so scared," Hope said with sarcasm. "I'm going to go scream and run around like all the other idiots. Or are you trying to stop me before I kill you?"
"We got calls," Jackson spat. "People saw you here."
Hope looked at her bloody fingernails. Why did getting dried blood on you have to be such a pain? Then again, she's been used to it, so she doesn't care.
However, it made her smirk seeing people thanking or talking to Jackson. Hope flicked a finger, sending two ladies flying into the light blue wall, heads smashing with a loud crack. There was blood left, as she twisted the knife in her hand.
"Are you incapable of following my demands, Jackson? You see what has just happened? Two people were talking to you, now they're dead. Their deaths are all your fault," Hope taunted.
Jackson stared frozen at those trying to give the bodies CPR. Hope knew it wouldn't work because of the impact, resulting in those two to actually die.
"Why don't you just leave us alone?" someone said in the crowd.
"Especially Jack," another spat.
"Don't you get sick of killing people?"
Hope glanced behind her to see Sydney holding some glass plates. She grabbed them from her, ripping it open to hold a white glass plate. If people were going to keep asking her questions, then it's time for what she's done best.
"All of this is fun for me, because all you are to me are insects waiting to be killed. Whatever will you do when I kill Jackson? Run and hide in your houses like the cowards you all are? Even if I get my wishes, I won't stop until I get everything," Hope said with a devious grin. "People here are nothing without Jackson. Who could stop my evil actions? Nobody else could stop me."
They all stared in fear, as Jackson shot her a hard glare. Hope had an idea, as she still held the knife in her opposite hand.
Hope tossed the plate at someone, jumping down from the cart to rush at Jackson, stabbing the knife right through his hand. He screamed and dropped his hand, while Hope laughed.
"Now you might have to see Micheal Wright. I'm sure he's quite shocked that his daughters are reunited," Hope remarked with a grin.
Hope then spotted Ann Greenwood with Abby Greenwood, through the crowds of people. This has been making better than she expected it to be.
"I'm sure you've probably haven't heard that Jackson's daughters left his house. To make matters better, they left to find me," Hope jabbed her thumb at her chest."Everyone wants to find and arrest me. Ask all those loaded questions about why I'm tormenting Claymore or even Jackson. Would you like to know the answer?"
Nobody dared to go help Jackson, because they knew the repercussions. They were slightly intelligent for that, but the town was still filled with cowards.
"Jackson killed my parents, but certainly you won't believe me because I'm the serial killer. The one to tell you all your lives are delusional," Hope said with her hands on her hips.
Hope tilted her chin up, grinning deviously at all the fear. She snapped her fingers, as Aubrey's facade fell for the people to see. Some gasped, but most stared in shock.
"I look quite different than my sister, don't we?" Hope taunted, twisting her hair."Will you remember this? Of course you won't. I'll keep controlling until I'm satisfied."
Hope scanned the people over. Some children had started to cry as Josh plopped some juice boxes into the cart.
Hope knew she'd always be superior to these people. Even if there are the Rare twins, she is already using one of them. Nobody could measure up to her own intelligence, which is exactly why she has given Amaris the choice. Soon the sisters will meet again, which won't be rainbows and sunshine.
Amaris slowly walked back to Ann's house. Would she even classify it as her own? No, it's not that she's actually living but staying. Unless, something happens to Ann that leaves them all parentless.
Opening the door, Alisha went rushing down the stairs to drag her back into the brown living room. It has a long white couch, with a television interviewed from Walmart. Did something happen to her mom?
"Play it back," Alisha said as Didi held the remote. It backtracked, showing a newsagent named Tim Taylor. There had been a man there, and his face had been pale with his words being rushed.
"Aubrey had just come into the store before we alerted Jack. She ended up killing four people and stabbing Jack in the hand with a butter knife," Paul stated."Aubrey Prices will always stain our town, regardless of whether she leaves. I know people don't want to hear this, but... I don't think Jack could even stand up to her on the day of the war."
Didi paused the television as Amaris pressed her lips together. Aubrey has destroyed Claymore as a town, because anyone that would move here is staring death in the face.
"I don't think it's a good idea to actually confront her..." Didi trailed, pulling on her wavy raven locks. "People compare her to past serial killers, but she's worse than any of them. It's like she enjoys killing people for the sake of killing them."
Amaris knew it had all been because Aubrey wants to torment Jack. Every death is blamed on Jack, because nothing is Aubrey's fault. That is why people have actually committed suicide to get out of everything going on in this town.
"I think she does," Amaris mumbled. "Everything Aubrey does has a purpose, like those interviews with crime investigators all over."
They have hired scientists or even crime investigators to try and dig into her life, but that never worked.
"It's like we're all puppets while she's pulling the strings," Alisha remarked.
Amaris shook her head, because they weren't the puppets. They weren't being used as a body for a girl to become a demon, possessing the body of her sister.
"We're the pawns, but there's probably a puppet," Amaris whispered. She lowered her eyes to pick at the white carpeted flooring, before looking back up at her two sisters.
Amaris still didn't know the details of when they'd be fighting. Would it be in weeks or months? It had to be at least a month, since Aubrey needed a full plan. However, Aubrey has always been good at planning.
Now that she thought about it, all of Aubrey's early murders were Jack's siblings. It then went to cousins, aunts, and uncles, until nobody was left of Jack's relations.
Why did Aubrey never target Didi or Alisha? Wouldn't they be dead since Aubrey tortures him by killing people? Unless, Aubrey knew she had been abused, and started using it against Jack.
"People have written books about the event, predicting its ending in a year. They assumed they could arrest a child, but they never did. I wonder why?" Alisha inquired.
Amaris knew it had to be because of those trances that make people mindlessly forget things. Is that how she escaped arrest? Did she set those prison guards into trances, freeing her? They had arrested her once, when she had been seven, going as far as shooting her to try and kill her. It wasn't successful, even if they thought it had been.
Amaris heard the door open and slam shut quickly. Alisha crept out of the room, seeing Ann and Abby both traumatized. They held groceries, while Tom and Bob approached them.
"Aubrey killed people in front of our eyes," Abby breathed, tears sliding down her cheeks. "Stabbing Jack in the hand with a knife, along with throwing a plate at a woman with a child. It's awful."
Amaris chewed her lip, still sitting on the ground. Maybe Alexandra couldn't actually access her body fully, unless there is more to the story. Why would she not give Hope her overall wish?
"What kind of parent raises a serial killer?" Ann spat.
She knew Hope may not have been raised that way, but it had been enjoyable for Hope. Maybe it would be the smartest thing to join Hope. Sure, she's this psychopath with the facade of Aubrey, but she'll know how to stop Jack.
"The news has released an interview about it. The man says Aubrey will never completely leave, because she has shaped the town," Alisha explained.
It's true because people fear going outside, knowing they may be killed. Anywhere isn't safe in Claymore, because Hope could find them. That's why Hope deems the town idiotic, due to their inability to solve the missing piece.
Amaris wanted to cry because of the fear she stood in. Would someone make her feel again? No, because she didn't know what feeling safe actually felt like.
"Because Aubrey has," Amaris whispered.
They stared at her, making Amaris look down at the floor. She didn't like it when people stared at her, especially since it made her feel insecure about everything.
Amaris felt the need for air, so she stood. "I'm going for a walk," she mumbled, glancing up at them. They didn't ask questions, as she went down the stairs into the entryway, opening the heavy door.
The sky outside was still bright with summer temperatures. Amaris shaded an arm over her eyes, squinting. People wouldn't be outside, since what had just happened. That's what happened when she'd kill over two people, but she had stabbed Jack.
People would be fretting for his health while her father would be the one treating him. Amaris stopped on the sidewalk, looking down at the ground. She glanced over to see a family watering plants out front together.
Amaris didn't remember that, since Alexandra erased it from her memory. That's why her mind almost felt like she had been missing something; she had forgotten all those bonding feelings.
She wiped her eyes, while walking past more rows of houses. Some are larger than others, with flowerbeds normally up front. This is what the outside world looked like, but she wasn't normal like those that got murdered in Claymore.
When she reached the downtown, she looked at some of the small shops. They already had closed signs up, due to how everything in Claymore is interconnected. Those that die all go to the funeral, or close early if Aubrey's murder is large.
"Amaris?" she jumped, her heart beat increasing as she slowly looked behind.
Kai stood there with Jaxton, looking at a map, trying to locate how the town of Claymore worked.
"I thought these shops closed at five?" Jaxton asked, looking at Kai before seeing herself. His eyes went wide, almost surprised that she had been on the sidewalk alone.
"They close early when Aubrey commits a large crime. She killed, I think four, some injured, and stabbed Jack in the hand," Amaris said, chewing on her lip. "It's all about the fear that their store will be attacked next."
"That's why it's so quiet," Kai observed. The roads were dead of cars after the event that happened.
"I don't really know how to react to it, since we know the truth..." she trailed, twisting the bottom of her tank top with her finger.
"This town really is weird," Jaxton stated. "I get them being scared of Aubrey, but aren't they doing more harm than good with everything?"
"That's how Claymore has always been. People still stay in this town, despite what Aubrey does," Amaris explained. "That's why there are so many empty houses, because those are ones that people were murdered used to live in."
"I think we're Hope's barrier," Kai implied. "If we're Rare, as she terms it, that means we have to be the real ones to fix that problem with your sister."
"Why don't you help us find somewhere to stay?" Jaxton suggested as Amaris felt her fingers twitch.
It's not that she had an idea of all of Claymore. She's been secluded from leaving Jack's, neglected her personal needs when her mother worked late.
"Sure," she murmured as Jaxton smiled. Amaris felt her face flush red, which she wasn't used to.
Is it because she couldn't remember when another guy had smiled at her? Maybe it's because he's handsome, but her heart beat quickly as it did when she was in fear.
Amaris didn't understand emotions, but she could maybe figure it out. There could be a way to understand love, if she knew what that was. She didn't understand, which made her think she didn't deserve it.
At Claymore General Hospital, Micheal Wright slowly removed the knife from Jack's hand. There had been two nurses, named Holly and Dana, helping with the process of keeping his hand in place.
When Micheal finally removed it in the empty ER, he closed the wound with stitches. Jack hissed in pain, still awake for the whole process.
"You'll be kept overnight to monitor the hand," Micheal said. Jack stared at his hand with gritted teeth, trying to cover up the pain, but it wasn't working.
"It's all Aubrey's fault for pulling her murderous ways," Jack mumbled.
Micheal turned to Dana and handed her the napkin-wrapped tools. Micheal looked back at Jack with a sharp gaze, before turning back to him.
When Holly and Dana proceeded to leave, Micheal watched as Jack eyed him from the hospital bed. "You know, you're getting what's been coming," Micheal spoke.
"Are you blaming me for all of this?" Jack snapped, Micheal nodded his head. "You should be giving some measure of support like others, but you'd never give me that. After all, your Micheal Wright, known as Claymore's top doctor."
"Yes, which is exactly why I know there is more to Aubrey's character," Micheal explained.
Jack seemed to be awaiting an answer, but Micheal didn't have one. There has been something missing in the incidents that have been occurring.
Micheal knew of the Prices twins for one solid reason: Hope Prices had been his patient. After being transferred due to her rare blood disorder, her blood cells had begun to stop flowing to certain regions of her body. Micheal had known about it, but she died before they could do treatment.
However, he knew that Aubrey Prices had died by suicide. From the articles he had read, something had been missing. Could it be some imposter posing as Aubrey? Unless, Hope could be toying with the dead.
"What is she then?" Jack asked, but Micheal raised his eyebrows.
"The smartest serial killer that has ever lived. Someone who could destroy the world," Micheal said.
Micheal knew demons didn't exist, but having twin daughters that are the same gender points to something abnormal. Did Hope or Aubrey possess a body? Could it be possible that they possessed Alexandra?
It's been years since they've heard anything. Is that what the overall goal has been? Does all of it not just lead to revenge, but the pure enjoyment of murder?
"Holly will bring you food later," Micheal implied, walking out of the ER.
He walked into his own office, scrolling through saved documents he had of the past lives of Hope and Aubrey. There had to be another answer that Hope could be posing as her sister.
The first was murdered when she was five, but she could be covering her age. It's not that he could bluntly ask himself, but he still managed to be alive after everything.
"You still think that incident today was planned?" Holly asked, walking into the narrow office with computers. Micheal nodded, turning his attention to some of the interviews and what they said.
"The one with Aubrey's comrades isn't normal. Watch the way she eyes the reporter," Micheal spoke, clicking on the words from Sydney Waters, who seemed disoriented.
"This incident? Aubrey didn't plan any of this, but it just happened from the attention," she said mindlessly. "Everything Aubrey does is for the greater good, especially revenge. We all have reasons for anything."
It almost seemed like she didn't care about what happened. Was that her overall personality? No, unless she had no empathy like Aubrey.
"My impression of Aubrey? She's someone determined to fulfill everything she wants to achieve, regardless of who gets hurt," Sydney implied, before blinking multiple times.
"You know, with seizures, they have reactions after coming out of one? It's like that, but there's still something that's missing from everything. My greatest guess is that Hope is possessing my daughter," Micheal hated saying those words.
"Possessed? Are you sure it's a demon?" Holly asked, her voice shaking with fear.
Micheal pulled out his phone to show the picture the unknown number had sent him. Holly took the photo that had Alexandra's eyes zoomed, seeing the icy blue eyes.
"Hope Prices had icy blue eyes. Alexandra went missing around the same time Hope died of her illness. If you add all the facts together, it gives the answer to why she uses supernatural power," Micheal sighed.
"You think this puppet master isn't even the person she says?" Holly gasped, as Micheal nodded his head. He may be trained as the best doctor, but he didn't know how to treat a possession.
"I remember that one blood test it confirmed that Hope had psychopathic traits. If that's true, then all this isn't about pure revenge anymore, but much more. My best guess is that Hope Prices is truly evil," Micheal gaped.
He didn't even know it had been possible to be worse than Jack himself. The lying bastard that has gotten away with everything, even when Aubrey provides accusations. It's gotten serious that the president of Clay has gotten involved with everything.
They have sent the military or top security guards from Clay, but they went running back. Aubrey had killed their leaders in front of them, while they shot at her. However, she never died when she had been shot over ten times.
"I feel we shouldn't even be treating Jack, but people will be furious if we don't," Holly said, pushing her brown hair back. "However, Aubrey deems she's going to be killing Jack soon. Do you assume in a couple days?"
"I don't have a clue," Micheal said, scrolling through the articles.
At Claymore General, admissions were rare in this town. There would be some for surgery or those transferred, but not much normally happens in this hospital.
Micheal searched for Hope's name in the system, seeing some articles about her death, due to the blood disorder. How could he determine if this possession had been truthful?
"I have to talk to Amaris," he breathed. His daughter he hadn't seen in ten years, due to the abusive life she had been living.
Micheal knew, just like Molly had known. However, they were divorced, and Molly took the two, but they ended up lost in some chaos.
"About the situation regarding Hope?" Holly asked, as Micheal nodded his head. "I just realized that if that's true, Hope doesn't bring us a feeling of salvation. Isn't that what they normally say?"
"Hope does mean something desired. If it's really the girl who died at eight, it means she gets the fulfillment instead of us," Micheal sighed. He closed the internet tabs, pushing himself back from the long tables against the wall.
"Everything Aubrey does has a reason, which means her not killing Didi and Alisha must have something to do with Amaris," Micheal implied. Holly nodded her head slowly, pressing her thin lips together.
Holly was one of those rare people that looked past Jack's fake facade of heroic behaviour. Just like all that worked at the hospital, knowing his behaviour had to be true with all the exploitations Aubrey had committed against Jack.
"Amaris may run when she sees me. After all, she has the mindset of an unloved daughter," Micheal said sadly.
Both girls grew up with the unloved mindset, but they weren't the same happy and caring twins ages ago.
"I think she'll be happy, but Alexandra might be one that may do that," Holly implied. Micheal bit his lip, nodding his head. If they aren't the same girl from years ago, their personalities had to be different.
How drastic would it be? That it's impossible for them to even heal from everything? Amaris certainly needs years of treatment, but he has nothing on Alexandra. However, he'd find his daughter and she'd tell him.
Well, we found more information about the Prices twins.
