Chapter 5 Jack
Jack woke up again to the smell of pancakes. His body and head ached with stress from the fight he and Rapunzel had the night before. He entered the living room and she was in the kitchen smiling and humming while making pancakes.
"How did you sleep?" She asked flipping a pancake.
"Not very well." He replied honestly.
"I'm sorry to hear that." She said flipping the last pancake.
"Listen about last night.."
"Let's just forget it happened." She interrupted. "The past is the past and I have to realize that my death effected people and they have new lives now. I have to focus on mine." She replied handing him a plate of blueberry pancakes. "Well afterlife I mean."
He sat down at his little nook table and began eating the pancakes. They were just as good as he remembered. Rapunzel was such a good cook.
"God I've missed cooking so much!" Rapunzel said taking a seat on the couch.
"I've missed it too." Jack said with a mouthful of food.
"Now we have to find out what my dream was four years ago." Rapunzel said. "That means we'll have to go to my house."
Jack dropped his fork. "Rapunzel we can't do that."
"Jack my parents may be divorced but they must still have some of my things," Rapunzel said.
"Rapunzel what makes you think your parents will let me go through your things after not seeing them for four years?" Jack asked. "Rapunzel your parents are happy now bringing that up will just flood back all the loss and I prefer not to do that to either of your parents."
"Okay well how else are we going to find it?"
"Well can't you just think of a new dream? Since you can't remember your old one?" Jack asked.
"I guess. But what I want is impossible." She said.
"Well think of something that is possible." Jack replied rationally
"Fine my dream is for you to be happy." Rapunzel said simply.
"Problem solved! I am happy." Jack exclaimed with enthusiasm.
Rapunzel looked at him seriously, "You're not happy, and not just you. I want Hiccup and Merida to be happy too."
"What if they already are happy?" Jack asked.
"Then we just have to work on you." Rapunzel said.
Jack groaned in annoyance, "But I am happy, I live in a good neighborhood, I have my health, and I have all the blueberry pancakes I could want."
"No you're not I can see it. You don't talk to anyone." Rapunzel said.
"I talk to Tooth." Jack replied.
"Who?"
"Tooth. She's my coworker at the publishing place. I talk to her she's my friend." Jack said.
"Who names a child Tooth?" She asked abruptly.
"It's a nickname and your one to judge Rapunzel." Jack replied defensively.
"Ooh you like her." Rapunzel replied smiling wide with glee.
"I do not, she's just a very good friend." Jack said standing up and washing his plate.
"Fine but I know what will make you happy." Rapunzel said.
"More pancakes?" He asked.
She rolled her eyes. "No, getting a novel published."
"That would make me happy but a novel takes time. It could take me years!" Jack replied.
"You already have the first chapters! You know how you want your story to end right?"
Jack nodded his head "I have some ideas yes."
"There! When you get your book published and Merida and Hiccup are happy then I can go to the other side." Rapunzel jumped for joy.
"Okay there is no guarantee of me getting published so let's make it when I finish it. I'll be happy just to write a whole novel." Jack compromised.
"Okay fine. If that will make you happy." She replied.
"I have to get to work." Jack said.
"Again?" Rapunzel asked sadly. "What am I going to do here all day?"
"I don't know go on the Internet, watch tv." Jack said as he went to his room to change into his work clothes.
"Ugh I did that yesterday." Rapunzel complained. "Maybe I'll go outside and explore. I haven't seen New York for sometime now."
"Yeah go see the sights. You can see most of them for free if you're invisible."
