Chapter 10 Merida
Merida hated working the morning shift, but she had to admit she liked her job. She had met a waitress there that shared the morning shift. She had choppy blonde hair that she kept in a little high ponytail. Her real name was Isabelle but her nickname around the restaurant was Tinkerbell or Tink for short. She did have a resemblance to the Disney character. She was short and short tempered. You couldn't really say Merida and Tink were best friends but they had gotten along during work shifts. Merida wasn't really good at making friends who were girls. The only one she had was Rapunzel and she was gone now.
"Merida! He's crazy about you!" Rapunzel said to Merida in 10th grade.
Merida and Rapunzel had been getting ready for homecoming at Rapunzel's house. Rapunzel had begged her to join the group, and when Rapunzel wanted something she would always find a way to get it.
"No he's not, he's my friend and that's all he'll see me as." Merida replied as Rapunzel was doing her hair.
"Oh come on when Hiccup sees you his jaw will drop!"
"Will you quit it, Hiccup's too good for me."
"Don't you dare say that! You're one of the best people I know!" Rapunzel replied.
"You think everyone is great." Merida replied.
"That's why you should be honored that out of all those great people, I think you are one of the best." She replied.
Rapunzel always knew how to make Merida feel good about herself. The unlikely friendship was one for the books.
Tink was definitely no Rapunzel. Of course no one really could ever be but Tink was different. She was rough around the edges like Merida, and they got along.
"What do you mean tip is optional?!" Tink yelled at a customer.
"Someone get Sandy out here before Tink hits this guy!" Aster yelled from the kitchen window.
Merida got Sandy from his office and he calmly approached the table.
"What seems to be the problem here?" Sandy asked.
"This idio-customer won't give me my tip." She said.
"Tip is optional, and I don't believe her service was worth a tip." The man said.
"Why would you say that?" Sandy asked politely.
"Well she took a while with our order and honestly she didn't have a very cheery attitude."
Merida couldn't believe what she just heard! She was about to yell something herself but Sandy answered before she could.
"Excuse me sir, but this young lady is one of our best waitress' and as you can see we are fully booked right now and she has to work until 5pm today because our other waitress is still in training but that shouldn't matter. She didn't have to serve your food to you but she did because that's her job and as a customer it is polite to leave her a tip. As for your comment of her lack of cheeriness I didn't hire a cheerleader I hired a hardworking waitress." Sandy said.
Merida had never heard him speak so many words in a matter of minutes before. The customer left in a huff and the other customers clapped as he left.
"Sorry about your tip," Sandy replied to Tink.
"Don't worry I'll cover that." Aster said coming out from the kitchen and put ten bucks on the table "It was worth it to see you stand up to that guy Sandy."
"Thanks Sandy, if you hadn't done that I might've gone off the handle." Tink said.
"You okay?" Merida asked as Tink came to the counter.
"Yeah, Sandy knows how to tell a guy off when he needs to." Tink said putting the plates on the counter. "Listen you and I are a lot alike so trust me your safe here."
Merida smiled, maybe she was safe, but she wasn't one to change her mind so quickly. Unexpected things happen she knew that. At least she could tell Angus how well she was doing.
After work she got into her Mustang, her most prized possession. It was a deep ocean blue, with grey leather seats and interior. Her father had given it to her on her sixteenth birthday. Her father was a kind man but unfortunately he didn't know how to handle Merida. The fights she would have with her mother were endless and he simply did not know what to do. When she had decided not to go to college she left the home entirely. He tried endlessly to get her back but she was stubborn and she was tired of fighting with her mother, so she left. Her mother had grown tired fighting as well and accepted that her daughter simply needed time on her own. She was an adult now so she couldn't stop her.
Merida pulled up to meet Angus once again. Luckily she didn't have to wait in line this time.
"Hello Merida, good to see you again." Angus said greeting her with a smile.
"Good to see you too Angus." She replied and sat down in the blue chair.
He shuffled some papers around, so his desk looked neater. "How is work?"
"Good, you were right Sandy's is a nice place." She replied. "Sandy's a decent boss."
He smiled brighter than the sun "That's fantastic!"
This was how Angus was anytime things were going well for Merida. He'd get that look in his eye and act like you were accepted into an Ivy League school. Merida knew she had to keep this job for Angus...and herself.
"Now are your goals the same as last time?" He asked.
"Yeah it's taking time to save up for an apartment of my own, I think I'll be sticking with Jamie for awhile."
"No problem with that! It takes time to save up money. Just keep doing what you're doing. I'm proud of you Merida." He said.
"Thanks Angus." She said and she meant it.
Meanwhile.....
Jamie waited for his roommate to come home from work, for once his vision was clear. He hadn't gone out that night because his band wasn't playing and he didn't have work. He began picking up some of his things knowing Merida would let him have it if he didn't. He smiled as he saw a familiar dark blue shirt.
Jamie was used to having one night stands but he had to admit he missed having Flynn over. He did leave his number but Jamie wasn't really the one to call for a second date. Although he must want his t shirt back.
He reached for his cell and called Flynn.
"Hello?"
Jamie smirked "You left your t-shirt here and I believe you have my Real Mckenzie's t-shirt."
"Oh well I guess you'll have to come over and swap." He replied.
"Oh you want me to come over there?" Jamie asked surprised.
"Well to be honest I don't remember the way back to your place." Flynn said "I just thought you had me over, so maybe I can return the favor."
"No sure that's fine."
Jamie wrote down the address and told Flynn goodbye. He got his coat and a dark blue scarf. I guess this could be a two night stand.
