Potc short story: Approved (part 7)
"Gibbs, it's nice to see ye again." Jack said with a nod as they went aboard the Lady. To be greeted by Cora, who went quickly into her husband's arms.
"Likewise Cap'n." Gibbs replied with a slight smile.
"I've suppose you're the one who helped us get out?" Teague asked, helping Roxanne to their cabin.
"Well, sort of." Gibbs replied. "Cora's the one who planned it all."
Teague gave a nod. "Well, thank ye both then. Cause without the chaos you caused we wouldn't have escaped. But for now, I'm retiring to our cabin with Roxanne. "
"Jackie, you have the wheel." Roxanne added tiredly as they left.
"Aye, get ready to set off an' quickly too." Jack told the others. Heading to the wheel.
"What'd about Nara?" Cora timidly asked, coming over besides him. "Did, did you find her?"
He stayed silent, focusing on his steering.
"Jack"... She said again, voice shaking.
He then turned, glancing grimly over at her. "They took her," He replied, looking quickly away. "They took her and I'm not sure if this time we can get her back ".....
{Years later....
Jack stood amongst a crowd of people surrounded around an auction block. Watching the auctioneer call out the bids on the slaves, and other merchandise being sold. He tugged down his sleeve, making sure his brand was covered. As he'd be easier reported here amongst the high and well to do of the town. Who would want nothing more than to see a pirate dead.
He wasn't exactly here to buy himself, Sparrow hated the whole idea of slavery . And buying and selling people, human beings wasn't his forte. Rather, he was looking for someone. Hoping he would find them here, as this is where the rumors lead.
Jack watched as two young girls were brought out and he looked them over. Shaking his head. None of them were the right age...
"Her, that's her I'm sure of it." Cora murmured from besides him. Holding his hand tightly. "That's Nara." She added, glancing at a 6 year old who stood on the stage. Head bowed and shifting her feet . "She has your eyes and face. I'd know them anywhere."
He gave a nod, getting ready to set his bid. "Alright, I can only go up to 600£ though, after that. We'll have to plan something else. Otherwise they'll be onto us."
The bids began and a few were in competition for them. "60£!" The auctioneer shouted, glancing at the crowd. "60£ for the young lass! Healthy, and strong for her age! Any bids? 60£ a good price folks! So don't be shy and raise those hands!" He chuckled.
"75!" Jack shouted. "Or take 90 an' seal the deal mate. You can't get a better price than that for her, especially with those scars, an' the limp." He added. Knowing no one else would be crazy enough to pay higher on those conditions.
The Auctioneer chuckled sheepishly, looking to see if anyone else would bid. "No more bids ladies and gentlemen?" He asked. Not wanting to sell to Jack if he could help it. "Then sold to the man in the back." He added, bringing down the hammer to finalize the sale.
Jack went around with Cora to the back. A slight , smug grin on his face as they went to go claim their daughter. Only to be stopped at the gate.
"96£ sir, with sixpence tax." The man commanded, holding out his hand. (*I have little clue of how the English pound works. I'm only guessing and making up as I go. 😁) "96£ or we'll keep your- purchase, Mr, Sparrow." He smirked, looking haughtily at them both.
"I'll be payin' what I'm payin'." Jack said slowly, eyes dark and hard with anger. "No more or no less."
"96£ Mr. Sparrow," The man said simply again. "96£ or you'll be paying with something far greater. Your life."
