So today is Nigeria's Independence Day, if you know me personally, you probably also know that I make jokes about my country like on a daily basis but honestly I love my country so much. Nigerian culture, dance, food, the people themselves are lit asf.

Right now, celebration for our national day has been clouded over by our recent economic recession; corruption in the government; and generally, lots of people being unsatisfied with our President because they feel as though he isn't really doing much for the country. But like I feel, that no matter what, we should take this one day out of the year to celebrate our country.

Okay so I'm going to like talk about some things that I love about Nigeria and also some main facts about the country.

MUSIC

We have created legends such as Fela, D'banj (although his music is dead asf now but anyways 🐸☕️), etc.

Nigerian music is lit and I think a majority of Nigerians love our music. At the moment, some of my favorite artists include Yemi Alade; Olamide; Wizkid; Patoranking; Davido; Don Jazzy; Tiwa Savage; and more. I have loads more hut for some reason they're not coming to mind idek.

FASHION

Honestly, I don't care what you think. Nigerian attire is so amazing. Like a nicely worn iro and buba is my entire life (iro and buba is basically a blouse with a wrapper tied around your waist, occasionally worn with a gele which is basically a headscarf). Okay so I'll show some examples.

^ this was me yesterday because we wore native attire to school to celebrate our national day :))))

^ there are just so many different styles of iro and buba I'm shook

Aaaaand these are some other traditional attires from different tribes.

FOOD

As a Nigerian who has lived in different countries but primarily in Nigeria itself, nothing will ever compare to Nigerian food in my eyes (note, this is a personal opinion, don't attack me) which is why I was really upset earlier in the year when these guys were making fun on of our food.

But anyway, let me introduce y'all to the beauty that is Nigerian food.

Jollof rice: It's not that rubbish Jamie Oliver tried to create. It's a very controversial dish 😂 with the whole West African debate on who makes it better. It can be eaten with most meats and is sometimes served with a salad or plantain (aka dodo) on the side.

Igbin: This is basically fried snails and it's served a lot during parties as like a starter.

Suya: It's a peppery type of shish kebab, usually sold on skewers and is super good.

Zobo: This is a drink made from dried roselle plants. Most people add sugar to it to sweeten it and it has a lot of health benefits apparently?? idk tbh I just drink it because it tastes good.

Plantain: It can be fried or boiled. It can be eaten either as a side or it can be a main meal itself. It's basically a banana but with lots of starch in it so people usually cook it first instead of eating it raw as you would with a banana :)))

Nkwobi: 😂 This is an Igbo dish and guys don't even get grossed out like it tastes soooo good but... it's made from cow foot. Not what you'd expect to be a delicacy.

There are sooo many types of Nigerian soups. I mean, there's ogbono, banga, efo-riro, okra, afang, pepper soup, egusi, etc. They are usually eaten with a side of pounded yam, eba (cassava grains) or some other form of starch.

Chapman: I don't know what it's made out of 😩 but I know it has something to do with some gelatin syrup and mixing different drinks but it tastes really good. It's like the Nigerian kool-aid.

Akara: These are beans cakes and are usually eaten for breakfast.

Ofada rice: Life is never the same after eating this tbhhhhhh.

Okay so if you made it all the way to the end 😂 thank you for reading and I really hope that Nigeria improves as a country.
