WARNING: IF YOU WANT TO FLEX YOUR DEBATE SKILLS ABOUT WHETHER CULTURAL APPROPRIATION IS REAL OR YOU FEEL LIKE DEFENDING MARC JACOBS, PLEASE LEAVE YOUR IGNORANT COMMENTS IN MY OLD CHAPTER TITLED: FASHION INDUSTRY AND CULTURE. I AM SICK OF BEING NICE, IT IS FRIDAY  AND I AM TIRED. ALL I WANT IS EDUCATED COMMENTS HERE.

UNLESS IT'S A GENUINE QUESTION WHICH I WILL ANSWER :))

WAKEUP CALL:

It's 2016, can fashion designers stop hiding behind the idea that being creative or having an artistic view has to include being racist, sexist, ableist, etc.

Appropriating a culture and then willfully choosing to be ignorant even after it is pointed out and explained to you makes you racist regardless of how many friends you have from that culture or whatever.

I mean, I have no problem whatsoever with Marc Jacobs wanting to use dreadlocks in his fashion show. No problem.

But I do have a problem when dreadlocks are being clipped onto a white person's hair then after it being pointed out to him, he claims that it's not cultural appropriation???

This is some 50 Shades of Ugly (not the models themselves, it's the fact that they are appropriating cultures willfully)

Then the models. . . We see our usual appropriator, Kendall, since she obviously has no respect to culture. People honestly need to stop defending the models because these are high-end models, if they really wanted to say anything about it they could've plus half of them decided not to take them out and wore the dread extensions for a few more days. ????

Like at this point I don't even know what to say anymore. Just look at this exchange between Marc Jacobs and people who pointed out that it was obviously cultural appropriation.

"Funny how you don't criticize women of colour for straightening their hair..."

Oops? I didn't know that straight hair is part of European culture. *cough* It's not like many people from North and East Africa have naturally straight hair.

"I don't see colour or race..."

I am so tired of this line. Maybe sometimes, people mean "well" when they say this but it's practically another way of saying, I am going to ignore my privilege. I will continue to ignore the fact that many people of colour are being killed, brutalised or discriminated against because I don't "see colour or race". It's just an excuse to not to speak up about relevant social issues involving race smh.

"Love is the answer."

Boy bye 👉🏾🚪

Afterwards, he decides that he has nothing else to say and quickly backtracks by apologising if he offended anyone but of course he doesn't acknowledge or admit that he appropriated a culture.

I mean, can we all educate ourselves on the subject of cultures and why they shouldn't be appropriated?

Have a nice weekend
