Music: 2017

So if you didn't know, my love of music is probably on par with my love of books. I listen to music everyday without fail, getting lost in songs and lyrics. But so far 2017 has proved to be a year of mostly mediocre music. The chart all sounds the same! I couldn't even tell you what was in it! Even Ed Sheeran's new album sounded mediocre, and that annoyed me. What happened to music that evoked feelings? Emotions?

Songs should make you feel something. Whether they make you feel badass, sad, nostalgic, happy it doesn't matter. But they shouldn't just be there. They shouldn't just be another song with the same baseline. You should close your eyes while it's playing and be able to imagine that you're somewhere else. I know it's not been that long since 2017 has started, but honestly there hasn't been one song released this year that has made me spellbound. None. It's been two months, where is all the music?

This rant could be applied more generally to music being released by big artists now. All the songs sound the same, all sounding exactly like the song that was top of the charts the week before. Think back to the peaks of music in years before. There are timeless songs that no one will ever forget, whereas I forget every song I hear on the radio right now.

And now for a concise list of all the songs that make me feel something because why not:

Love Like This (Acoustic) Kodaline.
