Colours

Story is based on a post I saw on instagram, this is basically set in an alternate universe!

Note: I was inspired for the story so it isn't actually my own idea but I am the one who is writing this.

I heard the same, blaring sound go off. My alarm. I dreaded getting up to see the boring world again. I slammed my head back onto the pillow, thinking about life. My walls were a dull grey, infact most things were this color. Everything looked the same. Though people always said it to be different shades. No, there's white, black and grey. Most of the things look the same. When I was little, it was all new to me. The individual shades stood out to me, but now they've all blended together to form one boring world.

I sighed, getting out of bed, and slumping down the stairs. My mom had seen colour once. Something no one could describe. She told me about when she saw it. It happened with a boy named Mark. They were best friends for a long time, and my mom said that everyday when he suddenly touched her, even slightly, the world would burst open with colour. She described it as being bright, though the only bright I had known was the bright white of sun flowing in the windows, or from a phone screen.

The only sad thing about this, was that Mark isn't my dad's name. She doesn't see the colour with . Though she tried to make it sound better.

"You don't marry someone because of the colour, Vanessa. It just goes to show that sometimes in life we really want something, and when we've seen it for even a second we think we can't live without it. But we can! You don't always get want you want, or even what you think you need"

But I knew this was a lie. Colour only happens when you're with your soulmate. Sometimes a lucky person might not marry their first soulmate, but find another one. Though most people only have one soulmate.

Then I asked my dad, a few days later, about colour.

"Oh honey, I'm so lucky, so blessed. I see colour every day. I've married my soulmate. Your mother gives me colour. Its amazing, bright, everything stands out."

Those were the saddest, and happiest things I've heard. My dad is completely head over heals for my mom. And I know she loves him too, but he is not her soulmate.

I slung my backpack over my back, kissing my mom goodbye. It was time for school. I'm glad it was almost over, and almost summer.

The day was pretty harsh, as usual.

Before lunch, I managed to drop all my stuff outside, on my way to my locker, which happens to be in another building. I don't understand why we have to go outside to get to out lockers. There needs to be a hallway!

" Oh wow, you must be having a hard time! Let me help!"

It was a familiar voice...

Ah! It was Brandon from my math and English classes. He was a pretty nice guy, not the usual jerk type. Though somehow he was a big hit with the girls.

I picked up as many pencils and markers I could, until suddenly, I felt a shiver go up my arm. I noticed Brandon's hand on mine.

I closed my eyes for a moment, they felt so strange, almost on fire.

Yet, when I opened them, the world was completely different.

The trees swayed, and were a strange shade of...what is it? I heard it was green.

That's when it hit me. I was seeing colour.

It was all a bit strange at first, but I sat there for a minute taking it all in. The place I once thought was so boring and dull, was now electrifying.

The grass was the same shade as the top of the trees, but a bit lighter. The skies, oh they were amazing. So bright, yet not a white bright. Everything emitted amazing rays of colour. The paths were a sort of grey, but seemed more...cheerful. Everything seemed so happy.

But then it all started flashing, blinking and all the happiness faded. The sidewalks went back to a sad, solemn shade.

"Did you see that too?"

Is all I managed to spit out, after collecting my thoughts.

All I can say is, I've never in all my years seen a face so blank.

"See what?"

My heart plummeted down, deep into a corner of my chest. I'd seen the colours, Brandon was my soulmate, but he didn't seem to see anything.

I didn't want to scare him.

Nothing came out of my mouth, no matter how hard I tried.

I blinked back the tears, daring me to break down. I felt so drained, like a piece of me had been brutally ripped out.

"Brandon? Come on lunch has started already, sit with me!"

It was Jessica.

He loyally obliged, jogging up to her, planting a kiss on her cheek.

His eyes shone, in a way that mine must have too.

I could feel it, he saw the colour, but not with me.

Jessica gave him colour.

But who else can give me colour?

Will I remain a blank canvass forever, growing old slowly, never finding someone to colour me again?

Woah that's deep. Omg.

OK just to fill you in....

The post I saw that inspired me to write this said something similar to this:

Imagine living in a world where everything had no colour, until you met your soulmate. Every time you touched, you'd see colour. But imagine one day, you get caught up in the moment and ask do you see it too? And they don't.

Yep so inspiring! Man this hit me in the feels and I felt bad writing it CD

Rip, to yalls feels.
