How I Judge Books
You wanna know how I know which books are bad and which books are good? Well, you probably don't care but shieeeet I'm just an asshole with no life, so let's get into it.
Covers:
The Cover Up- If your cover looks like it was done by paint itself (either self drawn or an anime character recolored), then that tells us a lot about yourself lol. It means you're the type of author who doesn't care a whole lot about your writing and that we're probably going to see a lot of errors, which is confirmed because I skimp through them XD. It would also mean you would cut your story short and try to write as fast as possible so you don't bore you readers with the same scene, but in actuality, it comes out too fast paced and written poorly.
The Disappointers- Now, those who have the typical covers with guys with abs, or girls with a man looking sexy, those are like 35% that are greatly written, and then the other 65% are... horrible. Despite the good covers, it doesn't mean their plot is good, nor is their writing, it literally looks like it came out the ass, while I sit there, contemplating why I stay on wattpad lmao. The amount of views and votes are from younger viewers (obviously) that just compliments even if the writing is eeeeh.
The Self Drawing Covers- These ones... these ones slaaaaay me all the time XD. Most of the time the proportions are waaaay off or much to the point where you're like "Bruh, this bitch did not just do that." and scroll past it. I mean I give these books a chance, but like normally, I skimp through it to get a gist of their writing and I'm like "Nope, not today." and just go off to another story.
The Picasso- For the covers that have a lot going on (pictures everywhere to make a point), where you can barely see the title... do I even have to say anything?
Description:
The Ditzy- I always read the description to know what exactly I'm about to get into. However, lately, many people always seem to write a few words and then say, "I'm not really good at descriptions just read and find out! :D" that already indicates that you can't write simple sentences and that happy face means you're going to make your OC character cutsie. If not that, then the OC will be a bitch then be shy, and THEN act cutsie while trying to impact the readers with feels even though it sucked harder that a pros-
The Movie Trailers- Anyways, moving on... the descriptions that always write, "What will happen if blah blah blah and what would happen if blah blah blah, read more to find out!" this one literally made my anal root canal open to burst out a thousand sand papers. Like, you just gave away your whole plot. Why would I want to find out if you told me? Then when you finally find out that your story is too predictable, you ask your readers what you should do. Then it just turns into a mess, making you unable to update anymore. Smh, think before you write.
The Lazy Ones- The ones with no description. I have nothing to say to them, but I will say, if you won't give the readers a liberty of knowing what we're going to read, you deserve that 402 views and 5 votes (I made those numbers up lol it's not towards anyone).
The Write Now Think Later- The straighfoward description. Now, it's self explanatory... these tell you exactly what will happen but in a riddle I guess. However, sometimes they use that for their prologue as well. Why would you call it a prologue if it is the description itself? Where is the logic in that? It shows that you're a lazy writer and would just post only about 200-400 words at most maybe even lower.
Try Hards- The mysterious descriptions. These tend to try and make it eerie to attract the readers attention, but sometimes it doesn't really do much. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I guess I would say it's cheesy?
Moon Speak- The demand to read description. Much like the no description, this one actually has words written, but all they write is, "Just read the book, it gets better, I swear! TTwTT or else! O.o" but like false advertisement, it doesn't get better in any way.
The Top and Bottom Laners:
What do I mean by Top and Bottom Laners? Well, these are the ones who always write an A/N. However these two are different. The top laners are the ones who will apologise for the littlest of things or feel insecure about their writing that they have to ask their readers if they are doing okay (but for one shots they only give information and dedications). The bottom laners... oh bottom laners... they do the most when doing an A/N. Here are some examples:
The Word Counter- In every chapter they publish, they will write how many words they have written for it. Cue in a face palm because that shit is stupid. Why would we want to know why you wrote that many words? It's unnecessary and idiotic.
The Interviewer (but I already spoke about that)
The Questioner- These ones, they always ask their readers if it was good enough. They want you to make them feel good about their writing even if you thought it was shit, you'll be like "yeahh fam... it was... great." stop feeding these types of people. Its false advertising! Lol
The Suggestioner- They never know what to write next and will ask for help and take those ideas to help themselves and thank the person. If you have no ideas, then that's a clear sign you shouldn't write the book since you have no creativity for it (one shots doesn't count or scenarios).
The Befriender- They always try to go for the "dm me! If you want to that is ;3" they either want to role play, talk about similarities, or just wanna talk in general because they're bored.
The Complainers- They tend to always say something about what happened to them and give long depictions on why they haven't updated. I mean I understand if you gave a brief talk about it, but to rant about it, girl, you need a rant book lmao. Relieve that stress.
The Beggers- They always want something from their readers, especially if they're a new writer. They'd say something like "If I get 10 votes on this chapter, I'll write another chapter!" or "Please vote guys! It helps me out! :(" idk much about these people, but they're there lmao.
The Views and Votes:
Now, views is one thing, but votes are another. If I see that you have over 60k reads but only 1k votes, that tells that your writing quality isn't all the great lol. Like, you can have the views, but do you have the votes? The votes given by these readers mean it was good, however, if the ratio isn't there then idk what to say fam. I know it's hard to get votes, but if you write it slowly, to try to get an understanding to write details and block that feeling of "I don't feel like writing anymore" then you can get the votes. I find it embarrassing to see stories with 100k views but only 1-2k votes. I would cringe at that and wonder what the hell is wrong with my book xD. I would stare that shit down and do what I always do, unpublish it to fix it (well, I'm not fixing my unpublished atm lmao) but that's whatever. I'm just saying though, the difference between views and votes tells a lot about you.
But that's just me fam. This is how I scope out the bad books and push them away from the good/decent books. Tbh, I feel like ppl on wattpad don't try to write anymore xD it brings my spirits down.
