Angel With A Shotgun
(Okay, this is an idea I've had for a little while. I honestly have like, 2.5 chapters written right now, so I'm going to give you the first chapter, and I want you to tell me what you think. Please keep in mind that it's a rough draft that will probably be edited if I decide to actually publish it at a story. Okay, here we go.)
All I knew at the moment was that I was falling. Falling from honor, falling from home, falling from dignity, falling from my family. Falling from Heaven. I didn't even know exactly what I did to anger my father, but in all honesty, it was probably a lot of things. The last thing I did was probably just the thing that sent Him over the edge. Another thing I knew was that this punishment wasn't permanent, which was a good thing, I guess. At least that meant I'd get to go back home.
I fell for what felt like forever until I crashed into the soil of the Earth. With a groan, I pushed myself into a sitting position and looked around at my surroundings. I had landed in the middle of a corn field by the looks of it. I felt a little bad about damaging the crops, but there's nothing that could've been done about it. I couldn't control where I landed. Feeling a bit of discomfort, I looked back at my large, black wings with a sigh. At least they were undamaged. A little ruffled, but nothing a bit of grooming couldn't fix. I delicately ran my fingers through the soft, slick feathers, straightening them out. I then folded them up and used my grace to hide them from human eyes.
With a grunt, I got to my feet and started walking, pulling my thoughts together as I tried to get out of the field. I knew I wouldn't be able to use my real name around the humans. Most of them probably wouldn't be able to pronounce it anyway. I'd need to come up with some alias to use during my time here. I sighed again and tried to come up with a human name I could use. Perhaps Alexander would work. Yes, it would have to do. I found the end to the cornfield and made sure no one was around as I exited. After all, I didn't know if this was private property or not, and I'd hate for it to have been such just for someone to see me leave it. That would have been fun to explain.
Making sure it was clear, I found a road right outside of the crop field, choosing a direction and then following it. It would have been much faster to just fly, but I didn't want to risk being seen. So I was stuck with walking. After maybe four hours, I came upon a small town. Amazing. I had found civilization. Now what? It's not like I needed anything from here. I had planned to just walk through the town, but then I saw something that drew my attention. Someone was being chased by another person. At first, I thought it was just one of those human games, tag, I believe they call it. Then I noticed that the man in the lead had a look of panic on his face. A bit confused, I followed after them as the one ahead of the other ducked into an alley way, the other following. When I got there, I saw the first man pinned to a wall.
"Now look," he was saying, "I'm sure we can work this out."
"No, this is how it's going to go. I take this knife and run it across your throat. You don't make a sound or draw any attention, and I don't get caught."
"What will you gain in killing this man?" I asked, tilting my head. I understood wars, but I saw no reason in this violence.
"You just go away before I kill you too, and not one word," the man who threatened the other said, turning his attention to me. Ha, he couldn't kill me if he tried.
"But you did not answer my question."
He just stared at me for a moment before saying "Satisfaction. Now go away."
"What do you mean? Why would taking a life bring you satisfaction?" Has this man been tainted by Lucifer? He certainly wasn't a demon, or we would have instantly recognized each other.
"Look man, I don't wanna have to kill you too, but I will if I have to."
I chuckled a little and stepped towards him. He seemed a bit surprised at my actions and, when I was close enough, he embedded the blade into my chest. I looked down at it as his face filled with shock. Slowly, I pulled it out and let it clatter to the ground before placing two fingers on the man's forehead. I watched blankly as he fell to the ground.
"Wh-what the hell did you do to him? And how come you aren't dead?" the man who was previously against the wall asked in a bit of a panicked voice. I turned to him. Wow, there were a lot of freckles on his face.
"Don't worry. He's simply unconscious." I wasn't really able to explain the knife thing, so I placed two fingers against the freckled man's forehead, and his hazel eyes closed before slowly opening again. I hated having to alter memories, but sometimes, it had to be done. "Are you alright?" I asked with fake concern. After all, I knew quite well he was fine. "Why was that man chasing you?"
"Um, I may have caught him trying to break into my home and then threatened to call the police. And he then maybe pulled out his knife and started chasing me. Thanks for intervening, by the way."
I nodded softly and we walked out of the alleyway together. "It wasn't a problem. Though I would recommend calling the police now. You know his face, correct?"
"Yeah. Uh, so I didn't catch your name."
Okay, okay, what was the name I had given myself? Right. "Uh, Alexander." Oh, humans have last names too, don't they? Well I didn't think about that. Quick, think of something. "Hamilton," I said quickly. "Yeah. Alexander Hamilton."
"John Laurens." He stuck his hand out at me, and I just stupidly stared at it, confused. What was I supposed to do in response? After a moment, the human awkwardly said "You shake it." I tilted my head in confusion, but I took his hand in mine, and he shook it. Well that was strange. I let my hand fall back to my side when he released it. "So I haven't seen you in town before. You just passing through, or did you just move here?"
"I'm not sure yet. I'm looking for a place to settle, I guess."
"Oh, fun. Any ideas of where yet?" Why does this human care? From my observations, he should just have said "thanks for the help" and that would have been that as he got back on his small, thin, rectangular box thing like all the other humans.
"Um, no. Not really."
"Do you plan on staying in town for a while?" Why is he so curious?
"I guess."
"Cool, so where are you staying then?"
"Uh, why?"
"Oh, so that I can send you something to thank you for saving my life."
"No, you really don't need to do that," I said, giving him a smile.
"Well then at least let me treat you to something. Do you drink?"
"What do you mean?" The look of confusion reappeared on my face.
"You know, alcohol. Do you drink alcohol?"
I don't drink anything. But I couldn't just flat out say that, so "I've never really tried it," I said honestly.
"Well would you be interested in maybe trying it out with me?" he offered.
I thought about it for a moment. I was stuck on Earth anyway. Why not try it out? "Sure. I don't see why not."
"Yes! Alright, come on!" He grabbed my arm and led me through town to a local bar. Well this is going to be interesting.
(Okay, so honestly, what do you think?)
