Tug's low warning rumble alerted Will, and in a flash he had an arrow notched and ready to be fired. They had been traveling at march pace since he had found the cold fires only two days ago.
When they rounded the corner of the path, Will inhaled sharply and reigned in Tug to survey the scene before them.
What once was a village, was now nothing more than a pile of chard wood and pile of ashes. Will nudged Tug forward at a slow walk and leaned over the saddle to look around. Remains of clothes and weapons and what looked horribly like body's lay tossed across the ground, and burned as black as night.
"Looks as if our bandits were here last night. And in a bad mood."
Tug shook his head violently from side to side as if to agree.
"If we keep moving for the rest of the day, we won't be far behind."
Then what are you waiting for?
